Honor Your Parents (PART 2 of 4)

    Please Help!

First of all, thank you for your time.

As my profile demonstrates, I am a Christian. I'm not here to preach. I am not here to attempt to convince anyone of anything on any religion whatsoever. I am here to learn and understand a few things about Islam and how it relates to a few specific questions if you will. So, I won't engage in any arguments or debates with anyone over religion.

I have four specific questions about four specific subjects for which I seek answers. I humbly ask for your help in finding these answers.

In Christianity, there are specific scriptures in the Bible that address these things. I'm interested in what the Quran (Please correct me if the spelling is incorrect as I've seen it spelled different ways on the internet) has to say about it, and what specific texts in the Quran address it. Please understand, I am asking out of total ignorance of Islam.

Please answer in English as my understanding of Arabic doesn't exist. I won't understand it if you answer in any language other than English. Sorry!

I greatly appreciate your time and consideration. Thank you so much, and may peace be with you.

The second of these questions is this: "Honor your Parents", "Honor your Father and Mother", etc. What does the Quran have to say about honoring your parents and their parental authority over you?

    Regards,

Re: Honor Your Parents (PART 2 of 4)

In Islam, mother is regarded as a source of heaven for her children. This quote of Prophet Muhammad is enough to suffice all the phrases or quotes used to honor the status of a mother. However, you may like to read the Story of Owais Qarni here to get the idea of how Muslims honor their parey.

Re: Honor Your Parents (PART 2 of 4)

Some translated verses from the Quran,

“Worship Allah and join none with Him in worship, and do good to parents” (Quran, 4:36).

“Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him and that you be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honor.“ (Quran, 17:23)

“And We have enjoined on man (to be dutiful and good) to his parents. His mother bore him in weakness and hardship upon weakness and hardship, and his weaning is in two years give thanks to Me and to your parents, unto Me is the final destination.” (Quran 31:14)

These are just a few there are more

In the hadith which is the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad sallaho alayhi wa sallam you can also find numerous references for example the below

Once a companion of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) asked Him which of the many good deeds a man can do is the most loved by Almighty Allah. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) answered him by saying, “To offer the prayer in its proper time”. The companion then asked, “And what is next?” to which
Prophet Muhammad replied, “To be good and dutiful to your parents…” (Bukhari)

Re: Honor Your Parents (PART 2 of 4)

    Hello

    Author: Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid | Pages: 72 | Size: 1 MB

Allaah mentions the command to treat parents well alongside the command to worship Him as He says (interpretation of the meaning): “And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents” [al-Isra’ 17:23] Obedience to parents is obligatory on the child with regard to that which will benefit them and will not harm the child. With regard to that which does not bring them any benefits or which will cause harm to the child, he does not have to obey them in that case. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in al-Ikhtiyaaraat (p. 114): A person is obliged to obey his parents with regard to that which is not sinful, even if they are immoral evildoers… This has to do with that which is beneficial for them and not harmful to him. End quote.
