    Best Translation

    Report bad ads?

Hi again. And sorry if I don't thank people for their replies; that seems to be a problem for me on this site. It says I can't post replies because I'm not a Muslim.

I have the Yusuf Ali version of the Qur'an on my Kindle now, the one without all the commentary but would like another translation (into English) in addition, to try to get a more accurate impression of what it really says. Or are they all okay? If you know of one that you think is better than the others, please tell me about it. It could be a Kindle version, the free one/s on here if I can get that to work, or a paper copy.

Thanks in advance and in case I can't thank you later.

    Re: Best Translation

In the Name of Allâh The Most Wise. And prayers and blessings be upon His Prophet Muhammad.

The best in my opinion is the one from Madinah. Here is a pdf link.

I don't know how it works on a Kindle device.

It may be a little awkward to read as you have both Arabic and English and many footnotes with exegesis. However it is still the best in my opinion.

There are many translations and you can look at this site for all the many translations.

    https://www.islamawakened.com/index.php/qur-an

My advice is to read either the above mentioned translation or to learn to read Arabic although that will take time. You can also read the exegesis (tafsir in Arabic) of scholars like Ibn Kathir, Tabari, Asqalaani, and others to better understand the Quranic verses.
    I hope this helps.

    Hello,

I would not recommend a translation of the Quraan for multiple reasons. Instead, use a tafsir, because a tafsir not only gives you a reliable translation of the Quraan, it also gives you the background information you need in order to properly understand what you are reading.

Tafsir ibn Kathir is a widely accepted one among Muslims. I do not know much about kindle, but as free PDF or as a free app it should be easily to download.

    Good luck.

Thank you. I will take all these things under consideration. There is a LOT of information out there! That's a good thing, but also overwhelming at times.

    Re: Best Translation

    In the Name of God.

Every person has his or her personal approach of reading and studying. So you know best what suits you when you aim to read the Qur'an. Actually it is not much in terms of number words (the same as an ordinary book) but of course the meanings are many and its profoundness eternal.

As mentioned there is The Madinah version which requires more effort of the reader as it has both Arabic and English and also exegesis. I found an easier to read version which you can either download as pdf or read online. So you just have to see what is easier for you on your Kindle device.

    Online:

    https://m.clearquran.com/

    Pdf:

    https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...n_jjwz9hiI5lKe

Here is the link once again to the Madinah version if you need it later on and maybe you can save these three links on your device in order not to loose them.

    https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...dffhUEkwpeiu7H

    Hope that helps.

    Re: Best Translation

Thank you for this. The second time I read through, I think I'll look at 3 translations at the same time. That should help keep errors minimal.
It would be hard for me to learn enough of Arabic and would delay my reading for a long time. Maybe some day, and until then, maybe the consensus of 3 translators will be good enough.

    Re: Best Translation

I wish you all the best in your reading.
By the way, I am a revert to Islam since 2006 from Denmark. So I have some experience now also by the fact that I am 48 years old. My reading of the Qur'an helped me to see the truth. Actually I had an extraordinary dream after reading some verses about the Paradise. In sha' Allâh, I can bring more details later. In short I saw a very beautiful, vast place in my dream that I had never been in before. I moved about freely and lightly as if hovering in this magnificent place and felt so great and at peace. When I woke up I felt like something great occured. I was feeling true happiness, serenity and complete peace in my self. This also naturally gave me tremendous, positive energy. About two months later I chose to say the testimony of faith: There is no god but Allâh and Muhammad is His Messenger. A few years later I traveled to Mecca and the Masjid Al Haram and found exactly the place of my dream with all its details. So I am certain that The Qur'an is a miraculous book.

This was just to explain why I urge people to read God's Words as I wish for others the same good which happened to me.
And please do not hesitate to ask Muslims and me although I am rarely on this forum.

    الحمدلله رب العالمين
    Alhamdulilahir Rabbil Aalameen.
All Praise is to Allâh The Lord of the Worlds.

Quran.com has helped me tremendously. InshaAllah will help you as well. I include other helpful links as well. I don't use their apps, I find it easier reading especially Arabic letters on wide screen.

Jabir bin 'Abdullah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said:'A slave (of Allah) shall not believe until he believes in Al-Qadar, its good and its bad, such that he knows that what struck him would not have missed him, and that what missed him would not have struck him."
