Assalam Alaikum WR WB, so there is an abundance of Islamic material online which can be easily downloaded; however is it halal to do so? Or should you buy them?

    Salaam

Some are available for free . I see no problem downloading it. If these are for sale , then they won't allow to download the whole book but only few pages .

Are u asking if one downloads free books and uses it for business purposes ? Don't know about that.

Re: Is it ethical to download Islamic books and lectures?

Wa Alaikum Assalam WR, sis, I was referring to sites like kalamullah.com, where you're able to download lectures and E-books for free. Now, I know that some of these materials might be for free, but I also know that some aren't.

If I don't intend to make a profit from downloading these things, is it allowed for me to download them for the purpose of learning?

i think your question is about copyright issue and kalamullah.com, islambase have addressed this issue with and they even posted a video of sh. feiz on the matter. some sheikhs permitted it saying that all knowledge is for Allah but can be sold to further the dawah, others have said he can sell as this is an intellectual property you can find the latter in the ourdialogue02 Q & A series.
besides the two answers, i still say that the internet has being a mercy to people like me as i have had loads and vloumes of lectures and ebook downloaded that if they were for sale forget it i would never have gotten them as at now, we need free resources, very well, the kalamullah have posted a statement in their site saying that who ever finds a copyright material on thier site should inform them as they will insha Allah take them off...i hope that will be after i ahve finished downloading
