    Islam's standpoint on conspiracy theorists

    Report bad ads?

A few Muslim friends of mine have beliefs that are unusual, if not paranoid. What does Islam have to say for those who believe in everything that is thrown their way?

Can you explain this in more detail please, remember you belong to a religion that believes in jinn. Or did they watch zeitgeist or the arrivals and now they think people are after their precious bodily fluids or what?

    Salaam,

Well conspiracy theories have nothing to do with Islam from what I know. Do not be quick to believe in something unless you have carried out some research.

Re: Islam's standpoint on conspiracy theorists

Usually so-called "Conspiracy Theories" are labbelled that way to deter people from seeking the truth about certain matters in society.

Before believing in something ask basic questions about the article being discussed like:

    1. who conducted the artice (i.e. biased nature)
    2. Does it contradict science
    3. Does it contradict Quran and Sunnah

    etc. etc.

Re: Islam's standpoint on conspiracy theorists

you mean conspiracy theories about iraqis with wmd and iranian nukes? or iranians trying to assassinate saudi officials in the u.s? and hijackers with boxcutters making skyscrapers fall at free-fall speed, all under the direction of a man in a cave,
take anything from the lamestream media as possible b.s unless proven.

O ye who believe! If a wicked person comes to you with any news, ascertain the truth, lest ye harm people unwittingly, and afterwards become full of repentance for what ye have done.

Re: Islam's standpoint on conspiracy theorists

There are quite a few Non-Muslims also who don't believe the 9/11 Attacks were carried out by terrorists or that the Holocaust didn't happen. And there are those who believe in UFOs, black helicopters, and the Da Vinci code. Conspiracy theories and whether you believe them or not has nothing to do with religion.

Re: Islam's standpoint on conspiracy theorists

^ brother, the word "conspiracy" has a meaning, it is when people get together and "conspire" to do something,
and the word "theory" also has a meaning, it is when something is not proven 100% but has probable cause.
the term has been turned into a label to brand those who question blatant lies and reject government falsehoods.
despite bin laden never having been wanted by the fbi for the events on 9/11, the lamestream media propounded the "conspiracy" "theory" and got people to believe that it was true,
however, facts like operation northwoods are documented and even admitted (decades later), these are not theories, although thopse who questioned these events would have been labelled "conspiracy theorists" at the time,
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Northwoods

on a second note - the fact that you are bundling in ufo's with those who question official accounts is telling, it has been used as a common smear method in the past to silence dissent.
and "black helicopters" is an old one, people used to report seeing unmarked black helicopters bearing no flags being used on covert missions and get labelled crazy, it is now a documented fact that they are used on covert AND now overt missions.

there's even a movie called "black hawk down".

Re: Islam's standpoint on conspiracy theorists

I have been told, but cannot prove or confirm, that conspiracies are actually supported in Islam to be real and true (not saying every or any particular theory is real and true) but that we should be aware of their existence. Logic, alone, supports this idea, not to mention the bias and lies rampant in the media. Everyone has a bias and a goal, otherwise, they would have nothing relevant to say. The media alone must be bias in choosing what to report vs what not to report since everything can't be reported, not to justify the clear misrepresentations of the mainstream media nor the injustices that they cause and support.

Re: Islam's standpoint on conspiracy theorists

some of us seem to have lost sight of the meaning of the term, let's set that straight shall we?

    con·spir·a·cy

       [kuhthinsp 1 - Islam's standpoint on conspiracy theoristsn-spir-uh-see]

noun, plural -cies.1.the act of conspiring.

2.an evil, unlawful, treacherous, or surreptitious plan formulated in secret by two or more persons; plot.

3.a combination of persons for a secret, unlawful, or evil purpose: He joined the conspiracy to overthrow thegovernment.

4.Law . an agreement by two or more persons to commit a crime, fraud, or other wrongful act.

5.any concurrence in action; combination in bringing about agiven result.

One such example is in Ya'qub's (as) warning and support for Yusuf (as) against the evil conspiracy of his sons.

Seest thou not that Allah doth know (all) that is in the heavens and on earth? There is not a secret consultation between three, but He makes the fourth among them, - Nor between five but He makes the sixth,- nor between fewer nor more, but He is in their midst, wheresoever they be: In the end will He tell them the truth of their conduct, on the Day of Judgment. For Allah has full knowledge of all things.
    8. Turnest thou not thy sight towards those who were forbidden secret counsels yet revert to that which they were forbidden (to do)?
And they hold secret counsels among themselves for iniquity and hostility, and disobedience to the Messenger.
And when they come to thee, they salute thee, not as Allah salutes thee, (but in crooked ways): And they say to themselves, "Why does not Allah punish us for our words?"
Enough for them is Hell: In it will they burn, and evil is that destination!

    9. O ye who believe! When ye hold secret counsel, do it not for iniquity and hostility, and disobedience to the Prophet; but do it for righteousness and self- restraint; and fear Allah, to Whom ye shall be brought back.
    10. Secret counsels are only (inspired) by the Satan, in order that he may cause grief to the Believers; but he cannot harm them in the least, except as Allah permits; and on Allah let the Believers put their trust.
    Quran Chapter 58

    48. There were in the city nine men of a family, who made mischief in the land, and would not reform.
    49. They said: "Swear a mutual oath by Allah that we shall make a secret night attack on him and his people, and that we shall then say to his heir (when he seeks vengeance):
'We were not present at the slaughter of his people, and we are positively telling the truth.'"

    50. They plotted and planned, but We too planned, even while they perceived it not.
    51. Then see what was the end of their plot!- this, that We destroyed them and their people, all (of them).
    52. Now such were their houses, - in utter ruin, - because they practised wrong- doing. Verily in this is a Sign for people of knowledge.
    53. And We saved those who believed and practised righteousness.
    Chapter 27

    Synonyms
    1. collusion, sedition.
    2. Conspiracy, plot, intrigue, cabal all refer to surreptitious or covert schemes to accomplish some end, most often an evil one.
A conspiracy usually involves a group entering into a secret agreement to achieve some illicit or harmful objective: a vicious conspiracy to control prices.
A plot is a carefully planned secret scheme, usually by a small number of persons, to secure sinister ends:
a plot to seize control of a company.
An intrigue usually involves duplicity and deceit aimed at achieving either personal advantage or criminal or treasonous objectives:
the petty intrigues of civil servants.
Cabal refers either to a plan by a small group of highly-placed persons to overthrow or control a government,
or to the group of persons themselves: a cabal of powerful lawmakers.

On September 26, 2005, the Spanish high court sentenced Abu Dahdah to 27 years in prison for conspiracy on the 9/11 attacks and being a member of the terrorist organization al-Qaeda. At the same time, another 17 al-Qaeda members were sentenced to penalties of between six and eleven years.
On February 16, 2006, the Spanish Supreme Court reduced the Abu Dahdah penalty to 12 years because it considered that his participation in the conspiracy was not proven.

that would make it a conspiracy "theory"
