People tend be to categorised as being intelligent, average or not being bright at all. It's sad how many societies adopt this system. All of us have our own unique skills. People need to be encouraged to nurture and perfect these skills. At some point in time, some skills may be in more demand than others. It does not mean that particular skill which is not in demand is useless.

You may have someone who is good at maths but has no clue how to cook or clean properly. Then you may have a hairdresser who cannot workout simple mathematical equations, but is excellent at giving customers the hairstyle that they want. I can go on forever, but this demonstrates that everyone is different and has their own abilities.

So in reality, there is no such thing as some people being extremely intelligent while those who do not fit this strict criteria are average or uneducated. We all need each other. A doctor who would not be able to perform is operations without the medical equipment being manufactured. A office administrator would not be able to work without the cleaner who ensures the place is clean and tidy. We are all useful and wanted.

Just thought I might share this.

    Re: Intelligence

i feel like your trying to relate talent and skill to intelligence.

I feel like Allah balances the world out by the way he distributes such attributes. I find it to be a blessing that everyone has limitations and specific strengths.

i wish i knew what mine were lol

    ^ Asslamu Aliakum,

Probably intelligence is not the right word to use. I like the last sentence of your post.

    Re: Intelligence

I agree with what you said brother. I think the problem rises when our society, even our own parents place importance on someones academic intelligence, overlooking their inner talent. For example, I hear people say "wow, that girl or boy finished college at such a young age." Now they won't say the same for someone whose beautiful character surpasses the ones who are intelligent in the academic way. So I think it would be good if people develop a criteria to measure each kind of attribute, not just intelligence in academic sense.

    Re: Intelligence

All normal people are born with working brain and senses in order to learn, the making of effort for learning is up to people themselves. The more effort people put into learning things the more knowledge they gain. Wisdom make make great not ignorance. The distinction between humans and animals is on basis of knowledge.

The quran is sent for learning knowledge so that people understand things properly and make their world an exemplary place in order to deserve award in hereafter. You do not get awarded for doing bad but for doing good.

    Re: Intelligence

I agree with you. I think children should be promoted to the next class based on their average grades instead of passing grades in each subject. This is because a person may be exceedingly intelligent in one subject but a complete failure in another. so why make them repeat the whole school year when the reason for failing is not that they lack intelligence but that they are not good in that particular subject. Take for example a child who excels in literature and gets 100% but gets 60% in biology (thus failing the subject) and has to retake the exam or repeat the school year. personally i think he/she should be promoted if his/her average is passing. this is because he may not be interested in the failed subject to want to study it and it may be unnecessary for his/her choice of career. Art and vocational / extra-curricular subjects should also be included in the assessment. So if a child is excellent in drawing but awful in writing, it doesn't mean that he/she is less intelligent than someone who is a good writer. by including extra-curricular subjects in the assessment and then promoting according to overall average instead of grades in each subject, more justice may be done and people may become more encouraged to focus on what they are good at (talented in) instead of that which will get them promoted to the next year in school.

    thought i'd share my thoughts.
