2 year degree vs 4 year

    Report bad ads?

I am looking forward to being able to provide for myself financially, and yet I am not really much of a materialist person and don't need many possessions to keep me happy (besides good food....one of the reasons I was drawn to Sufism and tasawwuf).....I am eager to be independent of my parents, but don't need to make a six figure salary, I don't think, although I imagine it would be nice.....I am conflicted over whether to go to two year school and then transfer to 4 year school, (my grades aren't enough for a scholarship, I want to spend less money), or just get a two year degree and start working.....what I had in mind was accounting....which means if I got a two year degree I would likely become a bookkeeper....maybe even start my own business.....but if I get a 4 year degree, I have a better chance at employment, andmuch greater earning potential and potential to rise in positions.....but I don't feel like school is for me, because just today, like other days, I had to go home early, because of my mental health issues....today I was so frustrated and angry, I threw an autistic meltdown and I had to go home...I cant imagine doing that at a university and getting away with it.......and I want a simple life....what should I do?

I applied for a scholarship where I write an essay about my life with autism and how I deal with it, another with how I organize my time, (first worth 5,000, next worth 2,500), and I told my mother to apply for one for people with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, which pays 2,000) and another for children of divorced parents (1000), and I haven't gotten any replies.......after one year of college, I can reapply for the scholarship, but getting a 3.0 gpa will only get you the HOPE scholarship, which only pays 81 percent of your tuition, not any other fees, so it is still expensive to go to college......even if you get it to begin with.....

Apply for more, don't give up. But if they are essays, have someone proof read it so that they can offer suggestions to make it more captivating. Don't think that it's only grades that will get you in the school you want. In my HS, one student who didn't have any outstanding gpa applied to Yale or Harvard (can't remember which one) just for fun, sort of as a joke. His essay was written comically, but it got the attention of the recruiters and surprisingly he was accepted into that school. I've heard many similar stories! So if you can make your essay evoke something special, you might have a really good chance.

Also in regards to school/work, have you had a job before??

@*charisma* turns out I made a miscalculation and with the new, correct calculation I made, I STILL can't get the HOPE scholarship, even with all A's this semester.....well, I guess I'll have to possibly go for that two year degree, then, but I'm still unsure.....but perhaps it is for the best......I wont be free mixing with women in college for too long, will get a job quicker, won't let my mental health issues get the best of me, won't have to drive all the way to college (which is far), won't have to take out student loans (knowing my liberal Muslim cunning mother, she'll likely get one behind my back) and will not be corrupted by excess wealth.....but I guess ill still consider going to 4 year school, but it looks unlikely at this point.....but it is always important to have tawakkul in Allah....besides, I could always transfer to 4 year school....

@*charisma* my mother just said she is willing to pay for my college the first year even if I don't get those other scholarships, and after the first year I can reapply for HOPE scholarship, and my mother says she can pay the rest.....ive decided I'm going to 4 year school to utilize my potential....

Re: 2 year degree vs 4 year

@AabiruSabeel I don't if there is Islamic good in doing this, as I am currently and constantly in fitnah due to being unable to get married, and i frequently argue with my mother over girls, and I need to start making my own money to be self reliant and not so reliant on my mother who I often have a toxic relationship with, and so I can learn some responsibility. Is there goodness in this (pursuing a two year degree) from an Islamic perspective? I'm already in a two year school which is part of a 4 year school, and they both prepare you for 4 year school and offer 2-year degrees. I'm worried it would be a waste of my intellect and people would not respect me. What should I do?
