    Height of humans

    Report bad ads?

Hadith says Prophet Adam was 60 cubits fall and then each generation got shorter until the ummah of prophet Muhammad saw. If this is true how come old bodies and skeletons found today like mummies and otzi the iceman and firuan aren’t giants. Otzi is from 3000bc and he is only5ft 3. Basically how come no giant or very tall bodies have been found.

    Re: Height of humans

Islamic history and other evidences suggest humans could be residing on earth for millions of years... In early days of humanity, humans lived for upto a thousand years or more... Allah sent upto 224,000 Prophets to this earth so just the succession of Prophets could have taken millions of years....

Basically, the early giant generations' bones have not been found or they've been buried for so long that their bones have dissolved away.

    Re: Height of humans

Read the following excerpt from the English section of the September 2001 issue of the Hebrew-English Israeli popular science journal "Ha-Mada Ha-Yisraeli B'Angleet V'Ivreet." Then read the comments below.

TEL AVIV, ISRAEL - At the recent Israeli colloquium on science and religion, Dr. Shlomi Lesser of Hebrew University, and the Chairman of the Hofesh V'Mada Society (a stalwart for deeply skeptical Israeli scientists), led a heated debate between biologists and ultra-orthodox Rabbis on the origins of life. Many of the spectators, including those of a deeply religious stance, came away with the feeling that the Rabbis had not done very well against their "Epicurean" counterparts.

The hi-light of the evening came when Dr. Lesser engaged in a one-on-one question exchange with Rabbi Dovid Brown of Yeshiva University. At one point Dr. Lesser asked R. Brown how tall the first man was, to which the esteemed Rabbi replied "he was roughly the size of an average man according to chazal [Jewish sages]." From there Dr. Lesser revealed that genetic research has revealed that the human race coming from a single pair of parents is impossible in light of the biological bottle-neck [a term for the strain put on successive generations by inbreeding] they would have to travel through.

"Our research, in conjunction with the research of other respected institutions around the world, has demonstrated that the entire human population descending from a single pair of human ancestors is highly unlikely." stated Dr. Lesser. "It would seem that the traditional view of groups, not individuals, evolving has been corroborated; the only way man could descend from a single pair (rather than from an entire group of transitional hominids) is if the original pair were literally giants in the pre-nutrition age."

As Dr. Lesser pointed out, prior to the breakthroughs in nutrition that took place in the 17th and 18th centuries, genetic evidence revealed that man would have been shrinking if he came from a single human ancestor. His calculations revealed that in order for the human race to reach the state it was in during the 17th century, the "Adam and Eve" story would only be plausible if the first man was 90 feet tall (which is fantastic to say the least). "There is no other way man could traverse the genetic bottleneck" Dr. Lesser again said. "If Adam was the size of any other man according to the learned Rabbis of the Jewish religion, this demonstrates an obvious absurdity to this myth."

    Re: Height of humans

But it wasn’t that long ago as it’s said that the height of men would decrease until the prophet Muhammad saw time, meaning bodies thousands of years before him should be much taller not short like otzi.

    Salaam brother,

We should be more concerned about Day of Judgement more than height. we should focus on doing good deeds which is valuable, otherwise we will be in trouble, doing nothing but idle, waste our time and so, we need to turn back to Allah, before its too late.

NO. I do not agree with this.
Of course we should be more concerned about the Day of Jugdement. However, this doesn't mean we shouln't ask ourselves such questions as height etc.
Thanks to people asking such questions we were able to develop ourselves and we came this far.

We should be gratefull that people do research on such things and provide a logical answer to our questions which in turn connects our beautiful religion with logic and therefore makes our belief stronger.
Nothing on this is idle. Islaam commands us to do research, develop and learn...no matter on which subject!!

So, you shouldn't prevent people from asking such questions.

No problem dear brother. I am no sheikh either. On the contrary, I regularly get jealous of some people here when I see how much they know about our religion, but I know very little.
So I am always gratefull when people ask these questions.

Even when the question sounds stupid at the first place, it can happen that it suddenly unchains a huge discussion among posters here about the topic, which quite often can be very educational.

In those cases I learn about stuff that never would go through my mind otherwise.

So just stick around, read those topics and take benefit from it.

Think about it, 224000 Prophets, and earlier generations lived upto 1000 years old. humans could be on earth for many millions of years and not just a few million.

The Prophet (saw) said 1400 years ago that the last day is imminent. He joined his 2 middle fingers and said his coming and the last day is close as that. There is probably few more hundred years to go until last day. the 'imminent' referral makes sense in relation to mankinds time on earth. If 1800 years is like a few days compared to the time man's been on earth, then 10.000 years will be like a few months and height changes will be a slow evolutionary process: each micro or macro step will take ten's of thousands of years and not just a few thousand

Can you please provide the source about 224.000 prophets please?
I did a search on Google and can find a da'eef hadeeth with 114.000:
It was narrated that Abu Dharr said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, how many Prophets were there? He said: “One hundred and twenty four thousand.” I said: O Messenger of Allah, how many of them were Messengers? He said: “Three hundred and thirteen, a good number.” I said: O Messenger of Allah, who was the first of them? He said: “Adam.” …
    Narrated by Ibn Hibbaan, 361
several sites (like wikipedia) speak about another hadeeth with 224.000, but this "other hadeeth" is never mentioned.

The ahlus sunnah way is to follow 'taqleed', which is putting one's trust in our Scholars (as long as they are ahlus sunnah) without having to see the evidence for oneself.

My knowledge of this comes from taqleed. It was many years ago, I heard from 'Alim type preacher man in Mosque that the hadith evidences suggest it was either 124000 Prophets that were sent OR 224000 Prophets, so it could be the latter opinion that's correct

However we stick to the number 124000 Prophets for 'security' reasons I. E. Just incase someone does a calculation and manages to find out 124000 Prophets have come, so if we promulgate the view that 224000 Prophets came, then this may open the door to some people going astray by waiting for more Prophets

But in discussions like this in order to show how long a time man could have been on earth, I suppose its OK to mention the 224000 one.

@Sunni ayotollah brother not sure if you're a Muslim (as your username could be just a mockery of Sunni and Shias) but if you are, don't let the kuffar confuse you with their doubts. islam has a sound answer to everything like this thread shows

Whatever they throw at us, Islam has the perfect scientifically compatible answer!
