    Advice of a teacher

This is an advice of a teacher when his student asked him to advise him on benefiting from his classes

Ettiquettes are the underlying cause for whether knowledge comes to a Muslim or not. Absence of ettiquettes stops knowledge coming to a believer. Allah says, "Fear Allah and Allah will teach you." If you have the correct ettiquettes Allah will ensure that you access knowledge wherever you may be. He will bring knowledge to you or He will take you to knowledge. Lack of ettiquettes is a one of the key reasons for why Muslims are plunged in ignorance and we will not come out of this state untl we approach knowledge with correct ettiquettes.

You must always have correct ettiquettes with knowledge and the bearers of knowledge. Whenever you attend the class always ask yourself why you are there. Before every lesson question yourself. Purify your intention with the One who knows the secrets of your heart. Don't ever believe that you are learned. Always believe that you are ignorant and that whenever you learn something thank Allah that He has lessened your ignorance. This is one of the biggest pitfall for Muslims who learn their religion - they begin to believe they are knowledgeable and start looking down at other Muslims. They start believing that they are better. Their heart says what the Devil said in front of Allah, "I am better than him." Allah destroyed him for this.

Make dua for your teachers constantly. I found that when I began making dua for my teacher I was learning so much more from him. Never lose sight of the importance of ettiquettes. It is the key to the doors of knowledge being opened for you and knowledge with sincerity is the key for the door of actions to be opened to you and actions is your key to Paradise.

Allah is merciful to His slaves.Questions can be asked as often as possible and as irrelevant as possible as long as there is ettiquettes.

Shaykh Said Dinwaji from Damascus once told me that this is an age where the scholars have to be patient because of the lack of ettiquettes that Muslims have. Can I suggest that you increase in reciting daruds upon the Prophet, upon him be peace and blessings, so that your love for him increases. Rabi'a Basriyya would recite 50,000 daruds a day and would say that she wants the Prophet, upon him be peace and blessings, to be able to boast that on the Day of Judgement that there was a woman in his community who would recite 50,000 daruds. Please make dua for me that Allah forgives me my shortcomings and raises me with His beloved, upon him be peace and blessings.
