I live in a boring small town with nothing much to do but snowmobiling and hunting.
Now, the larger city surrounding my town, its fairly large, with several good universities.
But, I always thought about leaving, maybe for New York or Los Angeles for college, but with cities that big, sin will follow.
So, I've thought, and I definately have to get at least 1,500 miles from home, refresh my eyes a bit, but my mom won't let go, my dad however wants me FAR from home
Now, I've got the dilemma, do I want to go to a top-notch school where sin will follow, or should I just leave the country as a whole and go to an Islamic University??
I've been contemplating, and the Islamic schools around the world don't take much to get into, so long as you have the right intentions, but with Harvard or Stanford, I'll have to unwittingly break my back and not get much in return, just a prestigious name and sin that will follow in big towns as such.
WHAT SHOULD I DO??

Re: Anyone got Advice for Leaving Home for College?
if you have the opportunity to go to an Islamic University, maybe you should do that
just because a city is big, it doesn't necessarily mean you will fall into sin...doesnt matter where you live.....ive lived in NYC my whole life and ive met people who have fallen deep into sin and on the other hand i know many people who hold on tight to their deen and are really religious
just because you hear Harvard or NYU or Columbia, it doesnt mean that they're the best....believe me i had a teacher who went to an ivy league university and then transferred to a different university that wasnt considered ivy league and he said that he got better quality education at the other university

I lived in Chicago for a year when I was five years of age, and even then I could see my neighbors in bikinis washing their cars...
No, I'm sticking the the Islamic alternative!

Re: Anyone got Advice for Leaving Home for College?
At my age, no matter what strength I have, deviance will follow and find its way onto my path, that is a given, not something I can fight.
But, I can take preventive measures, such as, GET AWAY FROM ALL OF IT!
I can do that in a strictly Islamic campus with the surrounding miles designated only for students, which I've heard of in many Islamic schools.
Yeah, my decision is made, I'm leaving the country, but going 9,000 Miles away is going to be a bit of a change.

Sorry that my list is short, but those two are my top candidates.

If you dont mind,,,I would like to ask you something,,,
you dont have to answer if u dont like,,
1. are u really american ? i mean,,,ethnic american, not arab - american
2. are u near by guantanamo prison ?
if yes,,i understand how you feel for moving away.
but,,let me tell you brother,,
i live in capitol city. and it's not really fun at all. i live since i was born and till now. everyday,,i inhale dirty air everyday, fight with traffic jam, not many hospitality people, and high cost for life.
but,,yes. living in big city in my country make me easier. find a job, find a food, and find place to do this and that and quick to get update news.
but,,i rather live and work in small city. it make me little bit calm (i'm a temperament,,,) and have great new life.
perhaps,,,if u really want have good future, after finishing study, you can help your local goverment built your own village so it will same with another favourite city in your country.
Sorry that my list is short, but those two are my top candidates.
You're saying that you wanted Islamic environment arent you. IIUM can give u good education ... but not runaway from sins. Unless u only go to class and stay in your room for the whole 4 years. Many Islamist students saying that UIA a.k.a Universiti ISlam Antarabangsa (IIUM in Malay language) should change the name into USA a.k.a Universiti Sekular Antarabangsa (International Secular University), while the non practicing Muslim students saying that IIUM is 'taleban' university - WHY?
We have public speaking corner where pro-Gay Activist and anti-Gay Activist can tell the whole campus about their ....erm points.
Lot's of coupling (between male and female, sometime between male and male), several cases of adultery, apostacy whatsoever..... If u want an Islamic environmental 100% - you'll be dissapointed.

Are you surprised that I don't live in Guantanamo Bay? Don't worry, many people are shocked that I live amongst the general population.
