    Assalamu Aleykum,

It's an interesting article with some good tips, but I do think in that situation the child also needs to be sat down and told that Allah subhanahu wa ta'alaa disapproves of rude words and warned that they may result in a path to the Hellfire and then reminded that the Hellfire is a real place that Allah has prepared for people that disobey Him.

What if they are non religious? Also kids usually don't usually care about things like this.

If the parents are non-religious then they can still follow the advice in the article, but they would be well advised to consider the wider question of how they will feel on the Day of Judgement when they are asked to about their religion. If Muslim kids said to their parents that they don't care about the Hellfire then they would almost certainly be disciplined.
