When I get my first professional job soon I have to pay some money to my family members, but I'm also considering saving up money for getting married such as walimah and mahr. I know it is often a problem in some cultures where a young man is unable to pay enough mahr, and I'm a little confused on that, such as whose choice it really is, how much to give, how much they can ask, or if there is a limit on how much they can ask, and how much to pay for walimah (wedding) in US dollars. I'm not going to be paying much at first to my family, just several thousand a year, as I'll be living with my mother, and we'll be moving to a cheaper home soon. Also, with the pandemic gone, (at least in the us, though vaccination, which'll happen earlier in the us then where some of you may live, but not totally gone), I suspect the economy and in particular my mother's industry will be doing better.
