    Long or Short Taraweeh?

    Report bad ads?

What do you like... Please do comment as well!

Actually, the reason I made this topic is because I realized my taraweeh is not exactly slow. It's on the faster side... I just can't read slow at the end of the day.

My teacher said I should read slowly. He said you'll get more Musallis if you recite fast, but for my own self, slower the better. lol... My teachers used to call me Bullet, because I read so fast. :X

    Re: Long or Short Taraweeh?

Is it obligatory to go to Taraweeh?

    I never went.
I know that the whole Qur'an is recited. How long would it take them?

I went to my(European) mosque once and I wont go again due to bidat. The imam was extremely fast and I like to take my time. I think that he has to go fast because of the hadeeth.
If you know Arabic, for God's sake enjoy the suras.

The thing that I don't understand, If we have to pause after each aja of the srah Al-Fatiha,than why are we so fast during Salat.

    Re: Long or Short Taraweeh?

Most people including me go to Taraweeh during Isha times.

I would say one hour if you want up to 10 short, if you want full 20 long- it takes about 2 hours or less.

Some people prefer 4 or 6 (30 minutes), up to you..

For my mosque, Imam is speaking all English, not only Arabic. It is good listening Imam's speech during Taraweeh. I enjoyed it.

Sister, I have to say I agree with you. Some of the imams recite so fast its like they're not even taking from what they're reciting or even trying to understand, like they just want to finish.

I'd rather the imam takes longer but recites slowly so we can at least try to understand the meaning n such.

But some of the imams recite so beautifully you would never want them to stop, only Allah swt knows best.

I don't really mind, here we have three Imams, one is pretty fast and the other is kinda slow and the last is really slow and they take turns leading alhamdulillah

    Re: Long or Short Taraweeh?

In all honesty, I'm okay with moderation or fast. But there's one Imam here who recites too slow, really. No kidding, people groan or let out an "oof" when he starts. I find that rude, but I can't blame them either.

I'd prefer a rather fast taraweeh to be honest. :X Though I'm noticing mashallah there's a lot of pious people on this forum who enjoy the long taraweeh! Masha'Allah! May Allah increase their piety, and the piety of us all. Ameen.

Ah, me too personally! I can take it all really, but there are many cases in which I just don't like the way the one reciting speaks, be it the voice or way of making pauses or saying the words.

Moderate is the way to go, I think.

    Re: Long or Short Taraweeh?

I think short is the best because we have children ,those of old age and mothers who started their day standing infront of the stove until sunset cooking so it would be best to keep it at a reasonable pace

short segments of a surah can be absorbed better by the masses in terms of contemplation

but we have to look at how many rakats and at what speed exactly the prophet prayed and that will give us the answer

Someone said that video was fast forwarded. Either way, I cracked up big time while watching it. I shot an email to my teachers with the link saying "Assalamu Alaykum. Last night I had emailed you guts saying I read a little fast. Here's an example."

but really... Those brothers get some really good exercise...

    Assalamu 3laykum,

    4. Or a little more; and recite the Qur'ân (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style (Surah Muzzammil:4)

I can't understand how some masaajid read and the speed they do. There is no khushoo' at all. One cannot contemplate on the speech of Allah sub7anahu wa ta'3la. It's as if its a race to see how face you can finish taraweeh. May Allah save us from this.

As for Salaat'ul Taraweeh, it is not obligatory but I definitely enjoy praying it in the masjid during Ramadan. The masaajid I go to read about 1-2 pages of the mushaf per rakah which is cool. And I love du3a qunoot in jamma3ah.
