6 Things to do on the Virtuous Night of Eid - Laylatul Jaazah (The Night of Rewards)
GET YOUR REWARDS ON THE BLESSED EID NIGHTS
Concerning the night that preceedes Eid ul Fitr:
In a Hadith Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, 'This night is referred to Laylatul Jaaizah (night of prize giving).' Hence, this opportunity should be utilized fully to fulfil one's material and spiritual needs.
There is no specific ibaadat (worship) to be performed in the night before Eid. One may engage in any form of ibaadat, salaah, zikr, dua, tilawaat, etc.
It had been the practice of the Prophet, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, that he would not sleep in the night preceding the day of Eid-ul-fitr. This night has been named in a Hadith as the Night of Reward (Lailatul Jaiza). Almighty bestows his rewards on those who have spent the month of Ramadan abiding by the dictates of Shari'ah, and all their prayers in this night are accepted. Therefore, it is desirable to perform nafl prayers in this night.
The Prophet, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, is reported to have said:
Whoever stands up (in worship) in the nights preceding the two Eids expecting rewards from his Lord, his heart will not die when the other hearts will die. (Ibn Majah)
To benefit from this opportunity, one should perform as much worship in this night as he can, and should pray for all his needs and desires.
Here are some ways in which we can maximise this blessed night and get COUNTLESS rewards from Allah as well as the acceptance of our good deeds and fasts throughout Ramadan inshallah!
1. Recite the Qur’an and reflect on its meanings
There are Ten Rewards for Every Letter Recited from the Quran
As a Hadeeth (prophetic statement) in At-Tirmithi proves: “Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allaah, he will have a reward, and this reward will be multiplied by ten. I am not saying that 'Alif, Laam, Meem' (a combination of letters frequently mentioned in the Holy Quran) is a letter, rather I am saying that 'Alif' is a letter, 'Laam' is a letter and 'Meem' is a letter.” [At-Tirmithi]
So increase your recitation of the Quran on this blessed night as well as throughout the year to gain these merits, as well as the following ones.
Reading and Reflecting Over the Quran Fulfils an Islamic Duty
"Then do they not reflect upon the Quran? If it had been from [any] other than Allaah, they would have found within it much contradiction." [Quran: 4:82]
The Reciters of the Quran Will Be in the Company of the Noble and Obedient Angels
‘ “Aa'ishah related that the Prophet said: Indeed the one who recites the Quran beautifully, smoothly, and precisely, will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels. As for the one who recites with difficulty, stammering or stumbling through its verses, then he will have twice that reward.” [Al-Bukhaari & Muslim]
So let us read as much of the Qur’an as possible on this blessed night and continue to throughout the year. Theres no point dusting off the Qur'an at the beginning of Ramadan but as Ramadan finishes we put it back on the top of the shelf or cupboard to gather dust throughout the year.
We need to try and get into the habit of reading even a little bit of the Qur'an everyday and also reflect, ponder and contemplate on its meanings in order to gain maximum benefits, and try our best to implement it in our daily lives throughout the year inshallah
2. Strive to gain forgiveness for past and present sins
Forgiveness is being shielded from the harmful consequences of wrong actions, and the veiling of them.
Seeking forgiveness is mentioned again and again in the Qur’an, and in some places it is a command, as in His saying, Glorious and Exalted is He:
"And seek forgiveness of Allah; surely Allah is Forgiving, Compassionate."(Qur’an 73:20)
In other places, Allah tells us that he forgives those who ask for His forgiveness, as in ayat:
"And whoever does evil, or wrongs his own soul, but afterwards seeks Allah’s forgiveness, will find Allah is Forgiving, Compassionate."
(Qur’an 4:110)
Aisha, May Allah be pleased with her, said:
"It is a fortunate person who (on the Day of Judgement) finds in his record many du’as (supplications) for forgiveness."
In other words, seeking Allah’s forgiveness is a cure for all wrong actions.
We should get into the habit of sincerely repenting for ALL our past and present sins with the intention of not repeating them again and ask of Allah to help us prevent ourselves from doing them again.
We should also ask Allah to perfect our characters and to help us improve ourselves in everyway possible. We should continue to repent everyday of our lives and make this a daily habit inshallah and not just in one month of the year! Repentance should be constant because we sin so much and if we were to die whilst we have not repented then we are DOOMED!
Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, said:
"Allah does not inspire seeking forgiveness in any servant whom he wishes to punish."
Beautiful Supplication for Forgiveness:
Shaddad bin Aus (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (PBUH) said,
“The best supplication for seeking forgiveness (Syed-ul-Istighfar) is to say:
`Allahumma Anta Rabbi, la ilaha illa Anta, khalaqtani wa ana `abduka, wa ana `ala `ahdika wa wa`dika mastata`tu, a`udhu bika min sharri ma sana`tu, abu‘u laka bini`matika `alayya, wa abu‘u bidhanbi faghfir li, fa innahu la yaghfirudh-dhunuba illa Anta.
(O Allah! You are my Rubb. There is no true god except You. You have created me, and I am Your slave, and I hold to Your Covenant as far as I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge the favours that You have bestowed upon me, and I confess my sins. Pardon me, for none but You has the power to pardon).’
He who supplicates in these terms during the day with firm belief in it and dies on the same day (before the evening), he will be one of the dwellers of Jannah; and if anyone supplicates in these terms during the night with firm belief in it and dies before the morning, he will be one of the dwellers of Jannah.” [Al-Bukhari].
3. Do Nafil (Superogatory) prayers:
Nafil prayers will enable one to be the prophet sallallahu alehi wasallam companion in Jannah
Rabi'ah ibn Malik al-Aslami reported that the Prophet sallallahu alehi wasallam said: "Ask (anything)." Rabi'ah said: "I ask of you to be your companion in paradise." The Prophet sallallahu alehi wasallam said: "Or anything else?" Rabi'ah said: "That is it." The Prophet sallallahu alehi wasallam said to him: "Then help me by making many prostrations (i.e., supererogatory prayers)." (Muslim)
Here are two Nafils we can pray on this night:
3.1 Tahajjud
Prophet Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) has said: In Paradise there is a castle reserved for those who read Tahajjud and the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) further adds, those who pray at night will enter paradise without having to account for their acts in this life.
It is recommended that you recite in your prayers as much of the Sacred Quran as you know. Otherwise, you may recite 3 times Surah Ikhlas (Qul Hu Allahu Ahad) after your "Alhamdu..." in every Rakat and you will thus derive full benefits of the full recital of the Sacred Quran in every Rakat.
The dua's at the time of Tahajjud are very readily accepted by Almighty Allah and one should repent and ask of Allah and try to cry in their dua's at this time, if one cannot cry due to the hardness of ones heart due to sin then at least one should make the face as if one is crying. Just as a mother tends to her baby quickly and promptly when it cries the same way Allah attends to his servant quicker when they are crying.
We should try and pray Tahajjud every night as it is one of the best and most rewarding Nafil prayers and makes it posible for one to gain the top ranks of Jannah (Heaven). If not then at least pray it as much as we can.
3.2 Salaatul Tasbih
We should also read this Nafil Salah on this blessed night:
Our beloved Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) had taught this Nafil prayer to his Uncle, Hazrat Abbas (RA) and told him; He who performs this prayer will have his past and future sins forgiven.
The Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) has recommended to read this prayer daily on each Friday or once a month or once a year, in case of this not being possible, to read it even once in one’s life.
This Nafil prayer provides limitless benefits both in the material and spiritual life.
Ibn al Mubarak says: “The tasbih prayer is a greatly desired act and it is desirable that one should punctually observe it and never neglect it.
How to perform this Salaah
‘Ikrimah reports from Ibn ‘Abbas that the Messenger of Allah said to ‘Abbas ibn ‘Abdal-Mutalib: “O ‘Abbas, O Uncle, shall I not give you, shall I not present to you, shall I not donate to you, shall I not tell you ten things which, if you do, Allah will forgive your first and last sins, past and present sins, intentional and unintentional sins, private and public sins? The ten actions are: pray four rak’at, reciting in every rak’ah al-Fatihah and a surah. And when you finish the Qur’anic recitation of the first rak’ah, say, while standing, ‘Subhanallah, al-hamdulillah, wa la ilaha illallah, wa Allahu Akbar‘ ['Glory be to Allah. All praise is due to Allah. There is no God except Allah. Allah is the greatest.'] Fifteen times. Then make ruku’, and while you are in ruku’, say the same ten times; then stand, and say the same ten times. Then go down and make sajdah, and while you’re in sajdah, say the same ten times. Then sit after the sajdah, and say the same ten times. Then make sajdah, and say the same ten times. Then sit after the second sajdah, and say the same another ten times. That is seventy-five [repetitions of the phrases] in each rak’ah. Do that in each of the four rak’at. If you can pray it once a day, do so. If you cannot, then once every Friday. If you cannot do that, then once a year. And if you cannot do that then once in your life. “
4. Dhikrullah (Rememberance of Allah)
We should get into the habit of remembering and glorifying Allah night and day, everyday of our lives not just in Ramadan.
O ye who believe, remember Allah much. And glorify Him morning and evening (33:42-43)
Here are some beneficial Dhikr and glorification we can do throughout this blessed night of prize giving and also throughout the year everyday day of our lives as much as we can no matter what were doing Inshallah:
1. Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu 'annee
2. Subhanallah
3. Alhamdulillah
4. Allahu Akbar
5. Laa ilaha ilallah
6. LA HAWLA WA LA QUWWATA ILLA BILLAH
7. Asthaghfirullah
8. SUB-HAN'ALLAH HIL AZEEM WA BI-HAM'DIHI,
9. Subhāna-llāhi, wa-l-hamdu li-llāhi, wa lā ilāha illā-llāhu, wa-llāhu akbar. Wa lā hawla wa lā quwwata illā bi-llāhi-l-aliyyi-l-azīm
10. Lā ilāha illā-llāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu lahu-l-mulku wa lahu-l-ḥamdu yuhyi wa yumītu wa huwa ḥayyu-llā yamūtu abadan abada, ḏū-l-jalāli wa-l-ikrām, biyadihi-l-khayr, wa huwa alā kulli Shay-in qadīr
Or the shortened version:
11. Laa ilaaha illal-laahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa ‘alaa kulli shay-in qadeer
One can also recite the durood that one recites in one's Salaah or a Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallim
5. Make much dua
We should be very busy in Dua as much as we can on this night asking of Allah to forgive us for our short comings throughout the month of Ramadan.
Allah Almighty says in the Qur'an:
"When my servants ask you concerning me, (tell them) I am indeed close (to them). I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calls on me." [2:186]
The place of duaa is so high to Allah, that the Prophet(Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallim) had said: "Nothing is more honourable to Allah the Most High than du`a." [Sahih al-Jami` no.5268].
Almighty Allah also said: "The most excellent worship is du`a." [Sahih Al-Jami` no. 1133]
Therefore let us devote much of the night of Eid in dua asking of Allah for his mercy and forgiveness for all of our past sins and making firm intentions to Allah that we will change for the better and strive to become closer to him as well as make our deen a FULL part of our lives and not just a little part of our life as Allah says:
6. Assess and evaluate yourself and make the changes for the rest of the year!
While the practice of fasting during Ramadan is widely followed, the instruction about self-evaluation during and after Ramadanhas largely been forgotten.
Self-evaluation means to assess where you are in life, set goals for the future, and think of what you can do to get there. The process of self-evaluation makes you pro-active in directing your life. Unless we take the initiative our lives will be shaped by circumstances.
We need to assess ourselves and since this month made us prevent ourselves from doing many of the sins we may usually do why should we go back to those sins now that we have stopped or reduced them?
If we continue the rest of the year with the evil we committed before Ramadan then know that we are risking the acceptance of all of our fasts and good deeds because Ramadan is not merely just for abstaining from food and evil for just one month but is a time to train ourselves to change for the better in everyway so that we may become god fearing and pious and continue that way the rest of the year.
We should strive to continue the good we have done in Ramadan throughout the year in our daily lives and discontinue the evil that we left before Ramadan and NEVER go back to it again.
This night is a night of self reflection so that we can see what we have achieved and making vows to Allah that we will continue with the good and stop the evil that we did before.
This night we should reflect on how we have spent Ramadan and continue the good and discontinue the evil and then inshallah our deeds will be safe and protected from being wiped out.
Note: Doing good and wanting to please Allah is NOT only for Ramadan, but it is FOR EVERYDAY OF OUR LIVES UNTIL DEATH!!!
Allah tells us In the Qur'an to enter fully into our deen and not partly:
O believers enter into Islam completely and do not follow the footsteps of Shaitan, surely he is your clear-cut enemy.... (Surah Al-Baqara, Ayah 208-210)
So then will we not make Islam a FULL part of our lives? This is our best opportunity and if we don't take it and death comes to us then surely we will regret it for ETERNITY!

There are ahaadeeth concerning Salaat al-Tasaabeeh which are attributed to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and which were classed as hasan by some of the scholars, but may scholars said that they are da’eef (weak) and that this prayer is not prescribed in Islam.
The Standing Committee was asked about Salaat al-Tasaabeeh, and they answered:
Salaat al-Tasaabeeh is a bid’ah (innovation) and the hadeeth concerning it is not proven, rather it is munkar. Some of the scholars mentioned it among the mawdoo’ (fabricated) ahaadeeth.

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said: Salaat al-Tasaabeeh is not prescribed, because the hadeeth is da’eef (weak). Imaam Ahmad said there is no sound evidence for it. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said it is a fabrication, and he said that none of the imaams recommended it. He (may Allaah have mercy on him) spoke the truth, because whoever examines this prayer will find that it is odd in the way it is performed … Moreover, if it were prescribed, it would have been something that was reported in many reports because of its great virtue and reward. Since there are no such reports and none of the imaams described it as being recommended, we know that it is not proven. The oddness in the way in which it is performed is as described in the hadeeth narrated concerning it, which says that it is to be performed once every day, or once every week, or once every month, or once every year, or once in a lifetime. This indicates that these reports are not sound; if it were prescribed, it would be something to be done on a regular basis, and one would not be given such a variety of options.
On this basis, people should not do this prayer. And Allaah knows best.

Volume 2, Page 24a: The recommended time for tahajjud Salatul Layil may be performed in the early part of the night, the middle part of the night, or the latter part of the night, but after the obligatory salatul 'isha.
While describing the salah of the Prophet sallallahu alehi wasallam, Anas would say: "If we wanted to see him praying during the night, we could see him praying. If we wanted to see him sleeping during the night, we could see him sleeping. And sometimes he would fast for so many days that we thought he would not leave fasting throughout that month. And sometimes he would not fast (for so many days) that we thought he would not fast during that month." This is related by Ahmad, al-Bukhari, and anNasa' i .
Commenting on this subject, Ibn Hajar says: "There was no specific time in which the Prophet sallallahu alehi wasallam would perform his late night prayer; but he would do whatever was easiest for him."
Volume 2, Page 25: Best time for tahajjud It is best to delay this prayer to the last third portion of the night. Abu Hurairah reports that the Messenger of Allah said: "Our Lord descends to the lowest heaven during the last third of the night, inquiring: 'Who will call on Me so that I may respond to him? Who is asking something of Me so I may give it to him? Who is asking for My forgiveness so I may forgive him?"' This is related by the group.
'Amr ibn Abasah reports that he heard the Prophet say: "The closest that a slave comes to his Lord is during the middle of the latter portion of the night. If you can be among those who remember Allah, the Exalted One, at that time then do so." This is related by al-Hakim who grades it sahih according to Muslim's standards, and at-Tirmizhi calls it hasan sahih. AnNasa'i and Ibn Khuzaimah also recorded it.
Abu Muslim asked Abu Zharr: "Which late-night prayer is the best?" He said: "I asked the Messenger of Allah the same that you asked me and he said, 'The (one done during) middle of the latter half of the night, and very few do it.'" This is related by Ahmad with a good chain.
'Abdullah ibn 'Amr reports that the Prophet said: "The most beloved fast to Allah is the fast of David. And the most beloved prayer to Allah is the prayer of David. He would sleep half of the night and then pray during the next third of the night and then sleep during the last sixth of the night. And he would fast one day and not fast the next." This is related by the group except at-Tirmizhi.
The number of rak'at to be performed during tahajjud: The tahajjud prayer does not entail a specific number of rak'at which must be performed nor is there any maximum limit which has to be performed. It would be fulfilled even if one just prayed one rak'ah of witr after the obligatory night prayer.
Samurah ibn Jundub says: "The Messenger of Allah ordered us to pray during the night, a little or a lot, and to make the last of the prayer the witr prayer." This is related by at-Tabarani and al-Bazzar.
Anas relates that the Messenger of Allah said: "Prayer in my mosque is equal to ten thousand prayers [elsewhere]. And prayer in the inviolable mosque is equivalent to one hundred thousand prayers [elsewhere]. And prayer in the battlefield is equivalent to one million prayers [elsewhere]. And what is more than all of that is two rak'at by a slave [of Allah] during the middle of the night." This is reported by Abu ash-Shaikh, Ibn Hibban in his work ath-Thawab, and al-Munzhiri, in his book at-Targhib watTarhib, is silent about it.
Iyas ibn Mu'awiyyah al-Mazni reports that the Prophet sallallahu alehi wasallam said: "The night prayer should certainly be performed even if it is for the length of time that it takes one to milk a sheep. And whatever is after the obligatory 'isha is of the tahajjud." This is related by at-Tabarani, and all of its narrators are trustworthy save Muhammad ibn Ishaq.
Ibn 'Abbas relates: "I mentioned the tahajjud prayer and some of the people said that the Prophet sallallahu alehi wasallam said: 'It may be half of the night, a third of the night, a fourth of the night or a fraction of the time for milking a camel or a sheep.""
Ibn 'Abbas also narrates that the Prophet ordered them and encouraged them to make the tahajjud prayer to the extent that he said: "You should perform salatul layil even if it is just one rak'ah." This is related by atTabarani in al-Kabir and al-Awsat.

Ibn Hajar (RA) then mentions the Hadith of Salaat al-Tasbeeh as an example for this and he accepts it to be in fact either Sahih (authentic) or Hasan (sound) and not Dha’eef (weak)
Imaam Tirmidhi (RA) says that many Ulama, among them Imaam Abdullah ibn al-Mubaarak (RA), have accepted the virtue of Salaat al-Tasbeeh. (Tirmidhi vol.2 pg.348; Hadith 481)
Imaam Bayhaqi (RA) states that ‘Salaat al-Tasbeeh was the practice of Abdullah ibn al-Mubaarak and may pious predecessors of various eras. And this in fact lends strength to its acceptability.’ (Shu’ubul Imaam vol.1 pg.427; Ilmiyyah)
Allaamah Mundhiri (RA) mentions: Many Muhadditheen have accepted it’s authority from among them are:
1) Imaam Abu-bakr al-Ajurriy,
2) Imaam Abu Muhammad al-Misriy (Teacher of Allaamah Mundhiri),
3) Abul-Hasan Maqdisi (Teacher of Allaamah Mundhiri),
4) Imaam Abu-Dawud (as quoted in his sahih and
5) Imaam Haakim.

Allaamah Suyuti (RA) has enumerated upto 20 great Muhadditheen who have accepted its authenticity. Besides those that are mentioned above, some of them are:

8) Ibn-Mandah
9) Imaam Bayhaqi
10) Imaam al-Subkiy
11) Imaam al-Nawawiy

15) Imaam Siraaj-ud-Deen al-Bulqiniy
16) al-Zarkashiy

The following list of Muhadditheen is of those who have written detailed articles on this matter:
1) Imaam al-Daraaniy,
2) Imaam Abu-Musa al-Madiniy,
3) Imaam ibn Mandah,
4) Ibn Naasirud-Deen ad-Dimishqiy, Allaamah al-Suyyooti.
In the books of Hanafi Fiqh support the view of its acceptance. (refer Shaami vol.2 pg.27; HM Saeed). And several Shaafi’ee Jurists have also endorsed it, namely Imaam al-Muhaamiliy, Imaam al-Juwaini, Imaam-ul-Haramayn, Imaam Ghazaaliy, Imaam Raafi’ee and others. (al-La-aaliy vol.2 pg.43; al-Azkaar of Imaam Nawawiy pg.242)
Khateeb Baghdaadiy (RA), who is Maaliki, states that there is no reason for it not being permissible. In fact, Imaam ibn Hajar (RA) has mentioned a quotation from Imaam Maaliki from which it could be deduced that it was acceptable in his Madhab. (refer Futuhaat al-Rabbaaniyyah vol.4 pg.321) Qaadhi Iyaad Maaliki (RA) has also accepted its virtue. (Ibid)
For me it is apparent that there can be no doubt regarding Salaat al-Tasbeeh being an act of virtue which has been established authentically. And is accepted by a large number of celebrated scholars of Hadith as well as the scholars of Fiqh (jurisprudence).
Imaams Taajud-Deen Subki (RA) and Badrud-Deen Zarkashi have stated that it is from the fundamentals of Deen and anyone who discards it despite knowing its virtue is not on the correct path. (Futuhaat vol.4 pg.321-322)
Sheikh Nasir Uddin Albani (RA) has also declared the hadith of Sunan Abi Dawud as hasan. Therefore the conclusion we can come to is that the practice of Salatul Tasbih is not a bidah(innovation) for it is a virtuous prayer and those who act upon it will receive the rewards mentioned in the hadith inshallah.

Asalaamu Alaikum Wr Wb, yes you can pray it after Isha and it should be prayed before Witr as Witr should be the last prayer of the night but there is still also no harm in praying it after Witr if one prayed Witr before sleeping.format_quote Originally Posted by abdussattar
The best time for praying Tahajjud is in the latter part of the night or the last third of the night and at that time dua's are also readily accepted by Allah. If one is sure that one would definately wake up for Tahajjud then one should delay the Witr until after praying Tahajjud. But if one is unsure then the Witr should be prayed before sleeping as it is Wajid and one should not take a risk incase it is missed.
The most rewarding way of praying Tahajjud is to sleep for 2-3 hours and then get up and pray it. Allah loves it when his slaves gets up from his sleep to stand before Allah whilst everyone else is asleep and that is why this voluntary prayer is the most superior of all voluntary prayer and makes it possible for one to attain the higher ranks of Jannah and gain a special relationship and closeness to Allah.
May Allah enable us to pray Tahajjud every night so that we can please him and get closer to him. Ameen

The night of Prize giving
The Messenger of Allah Muhammad is reported to have said: “And then the night of Eidul fitr, the night that is called Laylatul Jaa’izah(night of prize giving), comes along. On the morning of Eid Allah sends down the Malaa’ikah(angels) to all the lands of the earth where they take their positions at access points of roads, calling out with a voice that is heard by all except man and jinn, “O Ummah of Muhammad(Salallaho alaihe wassallam), come forth from your houses towards a Lord that is noble and gracious, who grants much and pardons the major sins.” When they proceed towards the places for their Eid salaah, Allah says to the Malaa’ikah: “What indeed is the reward of that employee who had rendered his services?” The Malaa’ikah reply’ “O Lord and Master, it is only right that he should receive his reward in full for his services.” Allah then says, “I call you to witness, O My Malaa’ikah, that for their having fasted during the month of Ramadhaan, and for their having stood in prayer by night, I have granted to them as reward My pleasure and have granted them forgiveness. O My servants ask now of Me, for I swear by My honour and My greatness, that whatsoever you shall beg of me this day in this assembly of yours for the needs of the Hereafter, I shall grant you; and whatsoever you shall ask for worldly needs, I shall look at you favourably. By My honour I swear, as long as you shall obey my commands, I shall cover your faults. By My honour and by My greatness do I swear that I shall never disgrace you among the evil-doing ones and disbelievers. Depart now from here, you are forgiven. You have pleased Me, and I am pleased with you. The Malaa’ikah an seeing this great reward bestowed by Allah upon the Ummah of Muhammad (Salallaho alaihe wassallam) on the day of Eidul Fitr become greatly pleased and happy.” (Hadith-Targheeb)
The the night before Eid, is a very important night and we should at least spend part of it in the worship of Allah. Despite all the other work we have, we should not lose the blessing of this night, because this is a such a night that who so ever remains awake on this night in the worship of his Lord, Allah, his heart will not die on the day when hearts will die?”
On the day of Judgement when hearts will nearly die out of fear, this person will be free of such fear and anguish. Also, that person who remembers Allah is like a living person and the one who doesn’t is like a dead person. So to emphasise – this is a very important night that we often forget because we are too busy preparing for the next day or have already started celebrating Eid

Is the hadeeth which speaks about praying qiyaam on the night before Eid saheeh?.
Answer:
Praise be to Allaah.
This hadeeth was narrated by Ibn Maajah (1782) from Abu Umaamah (may Allaah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “Whoever spends the nights of the two Eids in praying qiyaam al-layl, seeking reward from Allaah, his heart will not die on the Day when hearts will die.”
This is a da’eef (weak) hadeeth which does not have any saheeh isnaad from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).
Al-Nawawi said in al-Adhkaar:
It is a da’eef hadeeth which we have narrated from Abu Umaamah in both marfoo’ and mawqoof reports, both of which are da’eef.
Al-Haafiz al-‘Iraaqi said in Takhreej Ahaadeeth Ihya’ ‘Uloom al-Deen: its isnaad is da’eef.
Al-Haafiz ibn Hajar said: This is a ghareeb hadeeth whose isnaad is mudtarib (unsound). See al-Futoohaat al-Rabaaniyyah, 4/235.
Al-Albaani mentioned it in Da’eef Ibn Maajah, and said it is mawdoo’ (fabricated).
He also mentioned it in Silsilat al-Ahaadeeth al-Da’eefah (521) and said, it is da’eef jiddan (very weak).
This hadeeth was narrated by al-Tabaraani from ‘Ubaadah ibn al-Saamit, who said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever spends the night of (Eid) al-Fitr and the night of (Eid) al-Adha in prayer, his heart will not die on the Day when hearts will die.”
This is also da’eef (weak).
Al-Haythami said in Majma’ al-Zawaa’id: It was narrated by al-Tabaraani in al-Kabeer and al-Awsat. Its isnaad includes ‘Umar ibn Haroon al-Balkhi who is mostly da’eef. Ibn Mahdi and others praised him, but he was classed as da’eef by many. And Allaah knows best.
This was mentioned by al-Albaani in Silsilat al-Ahaadeeth al-Da’eefah (520); he said it is mawdoo’ (fabricated).
Al-Nawawi said in al-Majmoo’:
Our companions said: It is mustahabb to spend the nights before the two Eids in prayer and doing other acts of worship. Our companions quoted as evidence for that the hadeeth of Abu Umaamah, according to which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever spends the night of Eid in prayer, his heart will not die on the Day when hearts die.” According to a version narrated by al-Shaafa’i and Ibn Maajah: “Whoever spends the nights of the two Eids in praying qiyaam al-layl, seeking reward from Allaah, his heart will not die on the Day when hearts will die.” It was narrated from Abu’l-Darda’ with a mawqoof isnaad, and it was narrated from Abu Umaamah with a mawqoof isnaad and a marfoo’ isnaad, as stated above, but all the isnaads are da’eef. End quote.
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said:
The ahaadeeth in which the nights before the two Eids are mentioned are falsely attributed to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). End quote.
This does not mean that it is not recommended to spend the night before Eid in prayer, rather qiyaam al-layl is prescribed on all nights. Hence the scholars agreed that it is mustahabb to spend the night before Eid in prayer, as is mentioned in al-Mawsoo’ah al-Fiqhiyyah, 2/235. Our point here is that the hadeeth which speaks of the virtue of spending this night in prayer is da’eef.

This hadith has some weakness in it. However, the weakness is not excessive, [Dr. Nur al-Din Itr, Manhaj al-Naqd] and there is general agreement of the scholars that weak hadiths can be acted upon when it comes to virtuous deeds. [ibid.]

20 Sunnah’s to do on Eid
1. To awaken earlier than usual
2. To brush the teeth with Miswaak
3. To have a bath (Ghusl)
4. To be dressed in one's best clothes (Doesn’t necessarily have to be new)
5. To be dressed modestly in an Islamic manner.
Note: Care should be taken that we do not incur debts or transgress the limits of modesty regarding the clothes we purchase and wear on Eid day as is seen in many Muslim communities of today. Many of our brothers are seen with unsuitable haircuts and inappropriate clothing and many of sisters are seen dressed provocatively attracting unwanted attention and the gaze of strange men upon them. What would happen if we were to die in such a state? Therefore we should adopt modesty in every aspect of our lives particularly the way in which we dress.
6. To use Attar (Perfume)
7. To perform the Eid prayer at the Eidgah (An open ground)
8. To avoid eating before Eid-ul-Adha prayer and to eat an odd number of dates or anything sweet before Eid ul Fitr prayer.
9. To go to the place of Eid prayer early
10. To walk to the place of Eid prayer (If it is within walking distance because every step is reward)
11. To read the “Takbeerat” on the way to Eid-ul-Adha prayer loudly and on the way to Eid-ul-Fitr prayer silently:
“Allaahu Akbar Allaahu Akbar Laa ilaaha illallaahu Wallaahu Akbar walillaahil hamd”
(Allah is the greatest; Allah is the greatest; there is no god but Allah; Allah is the greatest; Allah is the greatest; and to Allah belongs all praise.).
12. To use different routes to and from the place of Eid prayer
13. To frequently recite the takbeer's throughout (Loudly for Eid Ul Adha and softly for Eid ul Fitr)
14. To pray the Eid-Ul-Fitr prayer later and the Eid-ul-Adha earlier.
15. To pray the two rak’ahs Waajib Salaatul Eidain without any Adhaan (call to prayer) or Iqaamah
16. It is Mukruh (disliked) to pray Nafil (voluntary) prayers before or after the Eid prayer but Sunnah to pray two rak’ahs Nafil prayer upon reaching home.
17. To give the Sadaqatul fitr (Compulsory charity) before praying the Eid prayer.
18. The khutba (Arabic sermon) of both Eids are Sunnah but to listen to them is Wajib (Compulsory). It is totally prohibited (Haraam) to walk around, talk or even read Salaah whilst the khutba is in progress.
19. To shake hands and hug one another on happy occasions like Eid is Mubaah (permissible). The general principle of a Mubaah act is not to regard the act as compulsory so one should not regard the meeting on the day of Eid as compulsory and an inseparable part of the occasion.
20. To greet one another with the following greeting:
Jabyr ibn Nufayr (Ra) said: 'When the companions of Allah's Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) met on the day of Eid, they would say to each other:
'Taqabal-Allahu minna wa mink
(May Allah accept from us and you)." [Al Mahamiliyyat; hasan isnad; see Fath ul Bari 2:446]
Another good idea is to make a list of believers in your life mashallah. and make duaa for them inshallah. There is a hadith about a Sahabah that was givine good news in life by the Prophet that he was going to Jannah firdous, when another sahabah ask him his secret he told him that before he slept he made duaa for his brothers and sisters and only aksed the best for them.
Imagine you do the same thing on Laytul Qadir
I do it every Laytul Qadir and it is wonderful remembering the believers in my life mashallah.
