Fasting the 6 days of Shawwal: The Reward of a year of fasting - Ends 20th May 2023

    Report bad ads?

Fasting 6 days of Shawwal : The Reward of an entire year of fasting:

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: "Whoever fasts the month of Ramadan and then follows it with six days of fasting in the month of Shawwal, it will be as if he had fasted a whole year." [Sahîh Muslim (1163)]

Another authentic Hadith regarding the immense reward for fasting the 6 days of Shawwal states:

Abu Ayyub (Ra) reported that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Whoever fasts Ramadan and follows it with six days of Shawwal , it will be as if he fasted for a lifetime.” (Narrated by Muslim, Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasai and Ibn Majah).

Subhaanallah! How generous is Allah who loves to give to his slaves!

Does not have to be fasted consecutively

These fasts do not have to be fasted consecutively as they can be fasted separately.

Better to make up the Qadha fasts first

It is better to make up Qadha Fard (Making up for missed Obligatory fasts) first and separate from the 6 voluntary fasts of Shawwal as it is more rewarding but many scholars say that one may also make a double intention to combine the Qadha Fard and 6 voluntary fasts of Shawwal. Many other scholars also say that one may fast the 6 voluntary fasts this month and make up for the Qadha Fard fasts later on.

More Reward to fast on the Sunnah days of fasting

It is even more rewarding to fast on the days where it is Sunnah to do voluntary fasts such as on Mondays and Thursdays and the white days (13th, 14th & 15th of each Islamic month).

We cannot afford to miss out on such huge & easy rewards

We may not get such an easy opportunity again to build up our bank of good deeds so we should not delay in doing good deeds lest we are taken by Death and our good deed accounts are closed forever. So the opportunity to do good is from now as we may not have a tomorrow. Surely in the Hereafter we will regret missing out on these opportunities to please Allah.

Re: Fasting 6 days of Shawwal : The Reward of a WHOLE year of fasting

    JazakAllah khair for this reminder.

I did not know that one could make a double intention for qadha fasts and Shawaal fasts.

    Shukran.

Re: Fasting 6 days of Shawwal : The Reward of a WHOLE year of fasting

The combining of the intention is one opinion, and is not the stronger opinion.

Can a person make niyyah for Qadah of a missed fasts and also do niyyah for Shawwal 6 fasts ?

Assalam Alaikum Respected Mufti Sahib, 1) My question is as above (making double niyyah i.e. qada and also 6 fast of shawwal or do they have to keep seperate) as a sister is asking regarding the matter. Please could you explain the answer in light of Quran and Hadith, preferably by giving reference to fiqh kitaab or hadith.

    Question1
No, they have to be kept separately. This can be deduced by a Fiqhi principle that if a person made 2 intentions whilst executing 1 Fardh act, the Niyyat for the stronger Fardh act will be considered, for example, a person intends to keep a Qadhaa fast and Kaffaarah fast at the same time, the Qadhaa will be considered fulfilled and not the Kaffaarah. (Ashbaah wan Nazaair vol.1 pg.45; Karachi)

Hence, in the case of a Fardh fast and Nafl fast, the stronger between the two, Fardh will be considered.

    and Allah Ta'ala Knows Best

    Mufti Ebrahim Desai
    http://www.islam.tc/cgi-bin/askimam/...=1856&act=view

At the most, one may hope that Allah will give them the reward for the nafl act too:

To make up missed fasting (period, pregnancy) can I do it on the six days of Shawwal, Arafat or other special days of fast?

If yes - do I get double reward? Do I have to clarify the intentions, resp. declare them for both matters (missed fasting, intention to fast for arafat for example?)

One may make up for the missed fasts on these days. The intention should be clearly that of missed fasts only. It is hoped, from the mercy of Allah Ta?ala, that one will receive the virtues of these special days as well.

As a general rule, one should try and complete all missed fasts as soon as possible.

It's better to avoid the practice, as there is no guarantee that you'll get the Shawwaal reward (some would say you wouldn't), and to do each separately.

    And Allah knows best.

Most everyone I know is done with their six days as they start on the second day right after Eid.. and it is kind of difficult to start again especially when you were in a place where they break their fast at 6:30 lol.. but in shaa Allah, already there are only seven and a half hours left and I am doing the laundry.. once we get past the first day starting again, they'll roll into each other.. may Allah swt yataqabal minna..

Perhaps we should have an incentive you know a thread about who is fasting today and how it is going.. even those who do it on Mondays and Thursdays just so they don't feel like they're behind or the only ones..

Re: Fasting 6 days of Shawwal : The Reward of a WHOLE year of fasting

Fasting Ramadan and the 6 days of Shawwal is like fasting for a lifetime:

Abu Ayyoob (Ra) reported that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:

“Whoever fasts Ramadaan and follows it with six days of Shawwaal, it will be as if he fasted for a lifetime.” (Narrated by Muslim, Abu Dawood, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nisaa’i and Ibn Maajah).

We have until the 4th July 2019 to keep these 6 fasts so let us grab these immense rewards otherwise there will only be utter regret in the Hereafter.

Sis, I also feel like it is very difficult to fast outside ramadan. The resolution was much stronger in the month of ramadan. Its like I keep getting the thoughts to break it either because I will get a headache since the weather is bad here or because I have the whole shawal to fast. That shaytan

Re: Fasting 6 days of Shawwal : The Reward of a WHOLE year of fasting

There are still 7 days left until the month of Shawwal is over so there is still time to keep the 6 fasts in order to gain rewards like fasting a whole year and according to another hadith a whole lifetime!

How can we afford to miss out these immense rewards when on the day of judgement we will beg for just one good deed but no one will give us any. Therefore let us do as much good as we can until we are taken by Death which can be at any second!

Re: Fasting 6 days of Shawwal : The Reward of a WHOLE year of fasting

Fasting makes up shortfalls in obligatory Ramadan fasts

RasulAllah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said,*“Whoever fasts six days after Fitr will have completed the year, for whoever does a good deed will have the reward of ten like it.”*[Ibn Majah]*

Another of the important benefits of fasting six days of Shawwal is that it makes up for any shortfall in a person’s obligatory Ramadhan fasts, because no one is free of shortcomings or sins that have a negative effect on his fasting. On the Day of Resurrection, some of his Nawafil deeds will be taken to make up the shortcomings in his obligatory deeds.

Re: Fasting 6 days of Shawwal : The Reward of a WHOLE year of fasting

Grab what good you can before it is too late!

We have until the 5th of September to complete the 6 fasts of Shawwal. We should make every effort to gain these huge rewards as we will be In urgent need of every atom of good deed we can get on the day of Judgement which is a day in which we will beg our own mothers for just one good deed and they will never give it to us because they will say that they are in need.

Therefore grab the good deeds now before death comes and surely as we all know death can come at any second. So it is logical for one who knows such a thing to do the best they can every second of their life as death is coming closer to us each and ever breath we take.

Fast on the Sunnah days to gain double rewards:

Fast the 6 fasts on Mondays and Thursdays to gain extra reward for fasting on days that it is Sunnah to fast. One may also fast 3 of the 6 fasts on the 13th, 14th and 15th of each Islamic month which are called the "white days" which symbolises the moon being its brightest and it is a Sunnah to fast on these 3 days. These 3 days will take place on:

    13th of Shawwal: 20th August
    14th of Shawwal: 21st August
    15th of Shawwal: 22nd August

So double rewards can be gained by fasting on the 6 fasts on the days specified. On top of that we can continue to fast on Mondays and Thursdays and the 13th, 14th and 15th of each Islamic month as much as we can in order to please Allah and gain his pleasure and immense rewards. Surely this can only be a Win Win situation!

Not started fasting the 6 fasts of Shawwal yet?

Not started fasting the 6 fasts of Shawwal yet? There is no need to feel down about it as there is still time. A Muslim should never have a defeatest attitude. Never say you can never do it. You can do and achieve whatever you want to. The only thing stopping you is that negative attitude that is alwats trying to hold you back but that negative attitude can be deafeated as you are in full control remember that.

There is still time so worry not. Start tomorrow. No more procrastinating. No more putting it off. Just do it and the next thing you know you would have completed all 6 fasts insha'Allah.

These fasts do not have to be fasted consecutively as they can be fasted seperately.

    Asalamualykum,

Now that Eid is over who is going to continue to fast for 6 more days?

The reward is too valuable to miss out. Alhamdulilah.

Re: Fasting 6 days of Shawwal : The Reward of a WHOLE year of fasting

O my dear brothers and sisters, surely we have forgotten the striving we did in Ramadan, and have been distracted by the worldly life.

We must not lose out on the great rewards in store for the one's who fasts 6 days during the month of Shawaal.

Abu Ayyoob (may Allaah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“Whoever fasts Ramadaan and follows it with six days of Shawwaal, it will be as if he fasted for a lifetime.”

(Narrated by Muslim, Abu Dawood, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nisaa’i and Ibn Maajah).

There's still 9 days left, so will we lose out on these huge rewards & Mercy from Allah or will we strive against our desires to attain it. Surely we will regret it in the Hereafter if we were to miss out. The choice is for you to decide.

May Allah give me, you and all the muslims the ability to benefit from this month of Shawaal.
