I reformatted my pc, but saved sound drivers on an external hard-drive first. I thought all I would have to do was drag it back to my desk top and everything would be fine. But that's not the case.
I downloaded drivers again from www.asus.com but again no luck. Is there something I'm supposed to be doing that I don't know about?
Um... have you actually tried installing the sound driver again? (Instead of just dragging the file).
Generally that's what you have to do when you re-format. You have to re-install all the drivers.

hmm... ok... what's inside each of the folders labelled "SE" and "W2K_XP" ?
Sometimes there's a file, the type where you know you gotta double click to install something, you know what it looks like ?

Right click on "My Computer", select Properties, go to Hardware tab and click Device Manager. You would see a Question mark in front of items that are not properly installed.
Double click on your audio device if it has the question mark, then you will get the hardware installation wizard. For the first screen, select "No, not this time". Click next.
Then select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) and click next.
Then select Search for the best driver in these locations and check the box "Include this location in search". Click Browse and select the folder where you have downloaded the drivers.
