I think a lot of the posts get locked for no reason. Someone posts a link and stops the thread and asks to read whatever that link says. Isn't this against the idea of a forum? I think we should be able to continue the discussion.
Sometimes it's necessary to close a thread, to keep this environment friendly and under control, but when there's a good clean discussion going on I see no reason to close that thread.
I know the moderators close threads to the best of their judgement, what I'm saying is that why should a thread be closed when there's a good clean discussion going on?
If you're talking about the World Affairs section, then here are the rules:
Threads over 3 days old are considered expired and are subject to closure without notice. threads that are seen to be more valuable or requiring more time may be extended beyond this time.
All threads that have not had any activity for 3 days will be closed.
A maximum of 5 new threads will be approved daily. The approval for new threads will be between the hours of 9-11 PM GMT daily. All threads submitted for approval throughout the day will be reviewed at that time.
An exemption to the rules will be sudden major news events that have world wide impact such as major disasters, Major acts of War (ie: Tierra del Fuego Nukes Antarctica), Death of a major world leader. TV and Movie celebrities are not world leaders.
Posting WA items in other section to avoid these rules will result in infractions being issued.
It is impossible for us to please all of the members. The best we can do is to try to keep the forum interesting and free from offensive material. But, this is very subjective what is interesting to one person is boring to another. So our only choice is to have specific rules and do our best to apply them equally to all members.
I also think that people don't understand that this is an Islamic forum and as Muslims we are supposed to encourage doing things that will benefit us and get us closer to Allaah Ta'ala. It's better than wasting our time on idle and vain talk that give us no benefit at all.
Sometimes, thread's are also closed because of the incessant free-mixing, and even though it's just the internet, Allaah Ta'ala is still watching. Basically, we enjoin the good and forbid the evil!
If you have a problem with a thread being closed, then PM one of the mods of the section and talk them about it inshaa Allaah.
hehehe.. I am at the opposite end of the spectrum as I believe they don't close enough of duplicated, useless or downright insulting threads.
it can take days of reporting, pming and complaining until one finally gives up or messages one already overworked mod (Brother)
That is true. I am glad to see you show the other side of the spectrum and I agree, often not enough threads are closed or deleted. But, this is simply because we are human and can not be every place at all times. I know on a personal level I seldom see any threads or posts unless a member brings them to my attention. I doubt if many of us go deliberately looking for posts to delete or close, we do depend very much on input from members.
If I make a mistake, feel free to PM me. But be polite. Rude replies are often met with caustic wit, or just general whining, depending on my caffeine intake.

wa alaikum salam
I think I may spoken in haste. this new mod has taken me up on it (not enough post/threads being deleted) and has decided to make up for lost time by following me around and deleting all my new posts as "inappropriate" or "wrong tone" and so on (I thought she had stopped doing that earlier in the week but is back in action again). I might as well not make any more to give the poor girl a rest also stop wasting my own time too, as well as saving you some bandwidth.

Moderators always have a reason for their deeds. That's why they spend a period of time being trainees.
I'd suggest you contact that mod or the Admins regarding any action that you feel was uncalled for.
Look at the forum through a moderator's eyes and you'll realise that it's not the best place on the net.
