who said, "Allah's Messenger

said, 'Verily, from that which people received from the first words of prophetic guidance was, 'If you are not embarrassed, then do what you want.'" Narrated by Bukhari.

In al-Fath al-Mubin, Ibn Hajar

defines modesty (ar. haya'), “It is what restrains one, a fear for one's self that his doing something bad might become known.” Haya' is a natural state that one is endowed with, while experiencing it in full is something that an individual must strive for.
