What does the Qur'an say about people who scoff and get haughty towards others? By scoffers, I mean those who mock and ridicule. And by haughty, I mean those who are snobbish, prideful, and "scornfully arrogant" as the dictionary puts it.
I ask this because I do notice that much of the younger generations are like this. Not ALL, but much. Many people tend to immediately act haughty towards others they believe to be ignorant or wrong, and scoff at them because of these reasons. It usually leads to arguing, which usually ends up completely fruitless.
What does the Qur'an say about this? The Bible is very clear in saying we should not respond to people who act this way, or we ourselves end up looking foolish and wasting air.
Peace upon you.
The Qur'an is against scoffers and haughty people.
I can't recall all the verses in this context, but here is some of these verses : Surat Al-Hujurat : 11
O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women ridicule [other] women; perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames. Wretched is the name of disobedience after [one's] faith. And whoever does not repent - then it is those who are the wrongdoers.
And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people and do not walk through the earth exultantly. Indeed, Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful.
QS. 57:23
