A man said to Wahb bin Munabah rahimahullaah:
‘So and so spoke ill of you’
Whereupon Wahb rahimahullaah replied:
‘Did Shaytaan not find anyone better than you to deliver this news?’

Bukhari Volumn 007, Book 071, Hadith Number 606.
-----------------------------------------
Narated By Ibn 'Abbas : Allah's Apostle said, 'Nations were displayed before me; one or two prophets would pass by along with a few followers. A prophet would pass by accompanied by nobody. Then a big crowd of people passed in front of me and I asked, Who are they Are they my followers?" It was said, 'No. It is Moses and his followers It was said to me, 'Look at the horizon.'' Behold! There was a multitude of people filling the horizon.
Then it was said to me, 'Look there and there about the stretching sky! Behold! There was a multitude filling the horizon,' It was said to me, 'This is your nation out of whom seventy thousand shall enter Paradise without reckoning.' "Then the Prophet entered his house without telling his companions who they (the 70,000) were.
So the people started talking about the issue and said, "It is we who have believed in Allah and followed His Apostle; therefore those people are either ourselves or our children who are born m the Islamic era, for we were born in the Pre-Islamic Period of Ignorance.'' When the Prophet heard of that, he came out and said. "Those people are those who do not ask to be treated with Ruqya[*], nor do they believe in bad or good omen (from birds etc.) nor do they get themselves branded (Cauterised). but they put their trust (only) in their Lord " On that 'Ukasha bin Muhsin said. "Am I one of them, O Allah's Apostle?' The Prophet said, "Yes." Then another person got up and said, "Am I one of them?" The Prophet said, 'Ukasha has anticipated you."

[*] Ruqya is to treat/protect ourselves against illness and evils with dhikr from Quran and sunnah. It's recommanded that one should learn to make ruqya by himself and address Allah directly, and not ask others to make ruqya for him, although it's permissible.
"If [a person going through a calamity] looks at what has befallen him, he will find that what his Lord has left for him is similar to it or better than it; and if he is patient and accepts it, He has stored up for him something that is many times greater than what he has lost through this calamity; and if He willed, He could have made the calamity even greater.— Ibn al-Qayyim

Ibn Qayyim Rahimahullah said:
"Righteous actions are only according to righteous intentions, and a good intention does not make something which is futile correct.
This is because intentions alone cannot make an action correct, but rather complying with the Sharee’ah (Prescribed Laws) must be added to that".

"We live in a strange world where the poor walk miles to get food,
and the rich walk miles to digest food."

A man came to Al-Hasan Al-Basri and said:
“I heard you say that if you commit sins, then Allāh prevents you from things. I do all the sins that you can think of and don’t do many good deeds. I have a beautiful wife and beautiful kids and a lot of money and land and am successful. Allāh did not prevent me from anything. How is it that you say that because of sins Allāh prevents you?”
He said:
“Do you pray qiyām’l-layl? Do you enjoy your du’ā’? Do you enjoy your ṣalāh? That is enough prevention that He prevented you from communicating with Him.”
