Yes because the messengers would teach the scriptures revealed to them and the previous ones. Muhammad (SAW) didn't go to his companions and say, "Hey guys, God just told me something. Write down what I tell you and make sure all Muslims abide by this. 'Kay thanks, bye." and walk off. He actualy taught the Quran and explained what everything meant.

    Salaam Truthseeker 63.

In all honesty, that is going into very fine technicalities that really does not affect the outcome of the equation.

If the prophet was an example for us, by definition he would be a 'teacher'. How he taught is a different matter, but taught he did, so well that his ways are practiced to a varying degree by a lot of people to this day.

But the prohpet also played many 'roles' in his lifetime in the shaping of the muslim community. Ultimately, he was teaching the ways to get Allah's blessings and keep away from His wrath, but the word often associated to this exercise is 'preaching'. Now that you asked, a thought crossed my mind, perhaps the 'authorities' (so to speak) preferred to use 'preaching' as it implied 'calling' to people to consider the subject, whereas to use the word 'teaching' implied that the subject is correct and accepted.

    Peace

Definitely a teacher. A Prophet is no Prophet if they don't teach. The people they go to are always completely ignorant of the laws of God. They need guidance. Guidance requires teaching. Therefore, a Prophet must be a teacher.

The Holy Prophet (saw) explained each and every Ayah of the Qur'an, except for one of the verses on Riba' which was the last one to be revealed, he died before he had time to explain it. So this is just one example of how he was a teacher. There are so many others.
