Cannot find any (does not mean that there isn't) however, I have heard similar claims but never been authenticated.

    Waalikum Assalaam

Its not a cultural baggage but something arising out of Madhab one follow(in your case its Hanafi).

Here is a fatwa by scholar from Hanafi school of thought.

    http://spa.qibla.com/issue_view.asp?...=3914&CATE=111

You can see why they came up with this stance.

As far as hadith concerns, facing Kaaba while answering nature's call is not allowed. However,We don't find any hadith which prohibits stretching your feet towards Kaaba. For details visit these links:

    Lying with feet toward Qibla

Is it true that one should not sit in toilet facing Qiblah or with his back towards Qiblah? What if position of the toilet in the house is such that one cannot avoid facing Qiblah?

    Re: Facing towards kabaa

Are people laid out in the direction of Kaba when they die? I know that our hospital especially caters for Muslim patients in that way.
And buried in the direction of Kaba?

Yes. The direction of the grave is perpendicular to the direction of Kaaba, and when the person is lowered into the grave, he/she is turned to the right so that he/she 'faces' Kaaba.
