Re: Ninety-Nine Beautiful Names Of Allah And Their Meaning

Some Explanation of the Beautiful Names of Allah

    الله

    Allah

    Allah
is the Name of Almighty God which is All- inclusive of the meanings and Beautiful Attributes of Allah. According to some scholars like Ibn Qayyim, Sebawiyyah and Al-Tabari, it is derived from Al-ilah while others don’t consider it to be derived from any word. This name is called Lafaz “Jalaalah”. Al-Tabari said that the Name “Allah” is Dho-Al-Alohiyyah wa Al-Maboodiyyah which means that it is related with God-hood and worshipping. Allah is the only One Ilah (God) and the only One Mabood (The Supreme Being to be worshipped).

We find the Name Allah in many verses that tell us about Tawheed. Tawheed means the absolute Oneness of God and that is Allah Alone. The examples of such verses are:

    Kalemah Tayyibah:

    Laa ilaaha illa Allah, Muhammadur-Rasoolullah.

There is no God except Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.

    Kalemah Shahaadah:

Ash-hadu anlaa ilaaha illa Allah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadar-Rasoolullah.

I testify that there is no God except Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.

    Kalemah Tawheed:

Laa ilaaha illa Allaho wahdahoo laa shareeka lah, Lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu, yuhyee wa yumeetu wa huwa Hayyun laa yamoot abadan abada Dhul-Jalaali wal- Ikraam, bi-yadihil khair wa huwa ala kulli shai’in Qadeer.

There is no God but Allah, The One Who has no associate/partner. HIS is the kingdom and HIS are the praises, HE gives life and death and HE is always alive, and will never die, HE is the Lord of Majesty and Bounty, in HIS Hand is all good, and HE has power over all things.

The first verse of surah Al-Ikhlaas:

    Qul howa-Allaho Ahad

Say, “HE is Allah the Unique One”.

WE see that in all of the above verses, which describe the Oneness of God, the Name Allah is used.

Re: Ninety-Nine Beautiful Names Of Allah And Their Meaning

    Al-Rabb
    The Lord

This beautiful name of Allah is not given in the above collection of the beautiful names but it is present in some other collections. Also the name Al-Rabb has come in the Holy Quraan hundreds of times as is mentioned in the book Fiqh Al-Asmaa’-il-Husna It is also repeatedly recited in our daily prayers, for e.g. Alhamdu-lillahi
Rabbil-aalameen, (surah Al Fatiha 2nd verse)
It means: All praises are due for Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

    Subhaana
Rabbiyal Azeem, (Glorified is my Lord, The Magnificent) It is recited in rakoo’ when we bow down in our prayer.

    Subhaana
Rabbiyal A’la (Glorified is my Lord, The Highest). It is recited in sujood (prostrations).

Allah said in the Holy Quraan in surah AL-Naba’ verse 37 :

Rabbi-ssamaawaati wal- ardi wa maa bainahumaa-Al-Rahmaan laa yamlikoona minhu khitaabah

    English translation:

The Lord of the heavens and the earth, and whatsoever is in between them, is the Rahmaan, none can dare to speak with Him (on the Day of Resurrection except after His Leave).

Qul aghair-Allahi abghi rabban wa huwa
    Rabbu kulli shai’

    Al-An’aam, 164

    English translation:

Say: "Shall I seek a lord other than Allah, while He is the Lord of all things?...

Qul inna salaatee wa nusukee wa mahyaaya wa mamaatee lillahi
    Rabbil-aalameen. Al-An’aam 162

    English translation:

Say: "Truly, my prayer and my service of sacrifice, my life and my death, are (all) for Allah, the Cherisher of the Worlds:

This name Al-Rabb is related with Tawheed-Al-Raboobiyyah which means the absolute oneness of Lord-hood

According to this tawheed we must believe that Allah is the Lord of everyone and everything and there is no Lord other than Allah.
The meaning of Rabb is Al-Malik-al-Mudabbir i.e. The Master, The Sovereign, Who is the Manager of all affairs of the universe,.
And the Raboobiyyah of Allah on HIS creation means that HE (Allah) is the Only One Who creates them, all are in HIS possession and HE alone manages the affairs of all creation including mankind and Jinn.

The Oneness of Rabb also means to believe that Allah Subhaanahu wa Ta’ala is the One Who gives us life and death, benefits and harms, accepts and answers our du’aa (prayers, supplication), HE is the Provider as well as the Preventer; and HE has power over all HIS creation. In short, HIS is the creation and HIS is the Command as Allah Almighty said in surah Al-A’araaf verse 54:
    ….. Ala lahul khalqu wal-amr, Tabaarak-Allaho
    Rabbul-aalameen.

English translation of the complete verse 54 of surah Al-A’araaf:
    54. In fact, your Guardian-Lord is Allah alone , Who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and then firmly established on the throne (of HIS Kingdom); Who makes the night cover the day, each seeking the other in rapid succession; Who created the sun, the moon, and the stars, (all) governed by laws under His command. Note it well: HIS is the creation and HIS the Command (HIS is the Sovereignty). Full of blessings is Allah, the Lord of the worlds!

Under the Attribute Al-Rabb also comes destiny. Our fortune/luck is all in the hands of that single and unique Lord, “AL-Rabb”. So whatever good or bad befalls us, it happens by Allah Almighty’s Knowledge, Will and Power. Nothing can happen in this universe without Allah’s Will. Therefore, Allah, Al-Rabb has the right to be worshipped and obeyed; and that we must remain humble and grateful to HIM. Du’aa, request must be done to the One Whose is the creation and Command and we all must fear only HIM.

Allah is Rabbil-Arshil-Azeem, i.e. The Lord and Master of the Great Throne. So Allah Almighty is the real true King and the Law-Giver. Therefore all of us mankind is obligated to follow the rules and regulations given by our Rabb Allah. All chiefs/rulers must implement the Laws that the True Lord Allah has revealed in the Holy Quraan and are explained in the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (Allah's Peace and Blessings be upon him). Every Chief must take lesson from the fate of Fir’on (Pharaoh) whose body, along with the bodies of his army, are preserved in the pyramids of Egypt for warning!

Re: Ninety-Nine Beautiful Names Of Allah And Their Meaning

    Al-Rahmaan and Al-Raheem

    The Beneficent and The Merciful

(Note: In Arabic some words are written as Al-Rabb, Al-Rahman and Al-Raheem but are read as Ar-Rabb, Ar-Rahmaan and Ar-Raheem.)

These two beautiful names “Al-Rahmaan and Al-Raheem are great names which are of great benefit for us (mankind). These have frequently come in the Holy Qur’aan for e.g.
    Al-Rahmaanu alal Arshi-stawa (surah Taha, 5)

    5. (Allah) Most Gracious is firmly established on the throne (of authority).

    Al-Rahmaanu allamal Qur’aan (surah Al-Rahman, 1 and 2)

    Al-Raheem

This name usually comes in conjucation with other names for e.g. Ar-Rahmaanir-Raheem (written as Al-Rahmani-Al-Raheem), Al-Barrur-Raheem, Al-Ghafoorur-Raheem (Al-Ghafooru Al-Raheem).

These two names (Al-Rahmaan, Al-Raheem) are the essential part of the verse Bismillahir-Rahmaanir-Raheem (written as “Bismi Allahi Al-Rahmaani Al-Raheem).This is the starting verse of all surahs except surah Al-Tawbah (read as At-Tawbah) which is not started with this verse because this verse presents vast Kindness and Mercy of Allah Almighty. In the surah Al-Tawbah Allah announced the breaking of peace treaty with the mushrikeen (idolaters) therefore, it was not started with this verse of Mercy and Rahmaaniah. The peace treaty was already broken from the side of the idolaters as they acted against it again and again; and due to that Allah ordered the Final Prophet (Allah's Peace and Blessings be upon him) to announce its cancellation.

The verse “Bismillahir-Rahmaanir-Raheem” is revealed in the Holy Qur’aan 114 times, 113 times in the beginning of all surahs except surah Al-Tawbah and once inside surah Al-Namal. There it is in the beginning of a letter written by the Prophet Sulaimaan (Allah's Peace and Blessings be upon him) to the queen of Sabaa to invite her to Islam. In fact a bird called Hudhud had informed Sulaimaan alaihi salaam that a queen and her nation worshipped the Sun instead of One God Allah. Then Sulaimaan alaihi salaam wrote the letter to invite her to the worship of One Single God Allah, started it with Bismillahir-Rahmaanir-Raheem and sent it to her by the same bird “Hudhud”!!!

Here is an important point to note, i.e. birds and animals know that only One God Allah must be worshipped but most of the human beings know it not, alas!!!

Bismillahir-Rahmaanir-Raheem is a kalimah/verse which the Prophet Muhammad (Allah's Peace and Blessings be upon him) used to read in the beginning of every work and we, the Muslims are advised to read the same. Then we will have to do only good, kind and merciful actions because we cannot start doing evil things with this verse/kalimah of mercy.

Al-Rahmaan—The Beneficent, Gracious and Compassionate--- is the quality of Allah due to which we enjoy all of the blessings in body as well as in the surrounding. This Attribute is equally beneficial for both of the Muslims and non-Muslims. Rather the non-Muslims and carefree non practicing Muslims enjoy more Rahmaaniah (blessings due to this quality) of Allah. The reason is that for the non-Muslims there is only Fire in the Hereafter. So any good that they do here is rewarded in this world by Allah’s blessings!

The blessings of Allah due to Rahmaaniah are numerous. Allah said in surah Al-Nahal verse 18:

    18. If you want to count the blessing of Allah, you will not be able to count it. Surely, Allah is Forgiving Merciful.

.Here Allah used the singular word “ni’mah" which means a blessing. But Allah said that we cannot count it. Let us take the example of a single blessing “eyes”.
This one blessing contains 2 eyes and not one. Allah gave us vision i.e. the ability to see with these two eyes.

Vision: We can see things in bright day, but we also have ability to see at night. Sometimes we come across a patient having night blindness. So we must be thankful to Allah for ability to see even at night. Then there are patients who are color-blind. They cannot enjoy the beauty of this colorful world. Again, a patient may complain that he doesn’t know green color because he is color-blind for green color only. That means we have separate vision for each color. There are so many colors!!! Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar wa lillahil-hamd!!!

Then eyes are also the sign of beauty! Although Allah Almighty keeps our body’s balance through the ears but some of the balance is also maintained through the eyes. So one blessing is composed of many blessings! But this counting is according to our very little knowledge, Its full count may be beyond human understanding! Allah Almighty knows the best.

Then, o Jinn and humankind, which of the blessings of your Lord will you deny?
We must be very thankful to Allah Almighty for HIS blessings.

    Al-Raheem:
This Quality is that of the Mercy of Allah. Allah is Arhamur-Raahimeen (Allah is the Most Merciful, none has mercy equal to Allah). Allah is the Creator of all mercy as well as the Bestower of all mercy. Allah’s mercy surpassed HIS anger.

According to a unanimous hadeeth shareef of Muhammad salla Allaho alaihi wa sallam, Allah sent 1/100 part of HIS mercy among Jinn, mankind, all animals and vermins. Due to this mercy they have sympathy and mercy with each other; and a wild animal is kind to its young ones. And Allah left 99/100 of HIS mercy to use for HIS servents on the Day of Judgment. [Unanimous (Bukhaari and Muslim)].

In the Hereafter the 99/100 parts of Allah’s mercy shall be only for the Prophets alaihim salaam and for the believers while kafirs/ unbelievers shall be deprived of Allah’s mercy.

Allah said in surah Al-A’raaf 156 (its English translation is):

    155.
And Moses chose from his people seventy men for Our appointment. And when the earthquake seized them, he said, "My Lord, if You had willed, You could have destroyed them before and me [as well]. Would You destroy us for what the foolish among us have done? This is not but Your trial by which You send astray whom You will and guide whom You will. You are our Protector, so forgive us and have mercy upon us; and You are the best of forgivers.

    156.
And decree for us in this world [that which is] good and [also] in the Hereafter; indeed, we have turned unto You." [ Allah ] said, "My punishment - I afflict with it whom I will, but My mercy encompasses all things." So I will decree it [especially] for those who fear Me and give zakah and those who believe in Our verses -

[In the above two verses, only the last part of the verse 156 (bold) is related with the mercy of Allah Almighty but I had to write complete 2 verses 155 and 156 to understand the situation.]

From the above principle of Allah regarding HIS mercy, we must understand that although the mercy of Allah is encompassing everything but as for mankind, Allah will ordain it only for those who:

    1. Fear Allah and guard themselves against disobedience to HIM,
    2. They regularly pay the obligatory charity,
    3. They believe in the verses/signs of Allah.

Also to get more mercy of Allah, a Muslim should take guidance from the verses like Al-An’aam 155, Al-Noor 56, Al-A’raaf 56 and many others. The English translation of some of these verses is:

    Al-An’aam 155:
And this is a blessed Book (the Quran) which We have sent down, so follow it and fear Allah (i.e. do not disobey His Orders), that you may receive mercy (i.e. saved from the torment of Hell).

    Al-A’raaf 56:

And do not do mischief on the earth, after it has been set in order, and invoke Him with fear and hope; Surely, Allah's Mercy is (ever) near unto the good-doers.

    Al-Noor 56:

And perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and give Zakat and obey the Messenger (Muhammad SAW) that you may receive mercy (from Allah).

Re: Ninety-Nine Beautiful Names Of Allah And Their Meaning

    Al-Malik and Al-Maleek

It means that Allah Almighty is The King, The Sovereign; and The Owner and Possessor of all man-kind as well as of all of the creation.
Both of these beautiful names have come in the Holy Qur’aan. The name Al-Malik can be seen in the following verses of surah Al-Hashar and Al-Mo’minoon.

    Al-Hashar 23:

The English translation of these verses is:

    Al-Hashar 23:

He is Allah , other than whom there is no deity, the Sovereign, the Pure, the Perfection, the Bestower of Faith, the Overseer, the Exalted in Might, the Compeller, the Superior. Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him.

    Al-Mo’minoon 116:

    116. So exalted is Allah , the Sovereign, the Truth; there is no deity except Him, Lord of the Noble Throne.

    Al-Maleek

Al-Maleek occurs in verse 55 of Surah Al-Qamar:

إن المتقين في جنت ونهر . في مقعد صد ق عند مليك مقتدر.

    54. Indeed, the righteous will be among gardens and rivers,

    55. In a seat of honor near a Sovereign, Perfect in Ability.

It also means that Allah is the King / the Sovereign of the entire universe and not of a particular region or of a specific country. HIS Sovereignty and Rule comprehends the whole universe and creation. Allah is the Owner of all treasures in the Heavens and the earth and those in between them. These two names prove that Allah Almighty is the Owner of everyone and everything and Allah can use the things and the creation in any way that HE wills. Also, it is true that all depend upon Allah for every necessity. So they cannot become independent of Allah. We all are Allah’s servants, no one can escape HIS possession nor can anyone live without HIS help and blessings.

    Allah said in Al-Zukhruf 85:

    85. And blessed is He to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all between them: with Him is the Knowledge of the Hour (of Judgment): and to Him shall ye be brought back.

    And in Surah Faatir 15-17:

    15. O mankind, you are those in need of Allah , while Allah is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.

    16. If He wills, He can do away with you and bring forth a new creation.
    17. And that is for Allah not difficult.

    And in Al-Ankaboot 60:

    60. And so many a moving (living) creature there is, that carries not its own provision! Allah provides for it and for you. And He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.

Some examples of the quality of Malikiyyah (Ownership) of Allah can be described in the following fields. ( this is according to the understanding of the Muslim scholars in the Holy Quraan and the Sunnah, otherwise the vast Malikiyyah of Allah Almighty is beyond the scope of human knowledge):

Ahkaam Al-Qadariyyah (the fortune /destiny of the creation),

Ahkaam Al-Shariyyah (all affairs of the religion)

Ahkaam Al- Jaza’iyyah (the recompense) in this world as well as in the Hereafter.

Allah the Al-Malik has absolute power, Honor, Ability, and Knowledge to comprehend, encompass, and control everything. Allah uses HIS vast Wisdom, Mercy and Justice to carry out HIS plans … Allah has a general command for the upper world (heavens) and the lower world (earth + oceans) etc. as well as for this world and for the Hereafter.

Allah has HIS fixed plans and does and orders whatever HE wills in HIS Sovereignty. There is no one to stop HIS orders or to turn the things against HIS will.
Allah said in Surah Ali-Imran 189 (its English translation is):

    189.
And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and Allah has power over all things.

And in Surah Al-Furqan 25-26 (their English translation is):

    25.
And [mention] the Day when the heaven will split open with [emerging] clouds, and the angels will be sent down in successive descent.
    26. The sovereignty on that Day will be the true (sovereignty), belonging to the Most Beneficent (Allah), and it will be a hard Day for the disbelievers (those who disbelieve in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism)

… and in Surah Ghafir 16 (its English translation is):

    16.
The Day they come forth nothing concerning them will be hidden from Allah . To whom belongs [all] sovereignty this Day? To Allah , the One, the Irresistible.
So the scholars described the attribute of Al-Malik as follows:

    Ahkam Al- Qadariyyah)

The life and death of all is ordained by Allah’s Command. When death of someone is ordained by Allah’s Command, no one can prevent it. If Allah ordained, for someone, loss and for another one gain, no one can change it or stop it from happening. Giving honor or humiliation, illness or health, wealth or poverty, high or low status, to some Allah gives sons, to some daughters, to some both and to some no children at all, all of these things are ordained by Allah as HE wills and none else has the power to control these things.

    Ahkaam Al-Shariyyah:

For the Commands of religion Allah sent Prophets and Messengers and revealed Divine Books having Laws and Commands. The Prophets and messengers were ordered to guide mankind to live by the Laws and Commands of Allah. So we all must live by the faith and actions ordered by Allah, and abstain from crossing the limits ordained by HIM.

    Ahkaam Al-Jaza’iyyah:

Allah shall recompense us all, for good and bad deeds, in the Hereafter. Allah also rewards and punishes in this world according to HIS Wisdom but the place for Final Justice and Recompense is the next world in the life Hereafter.
All of these Commands are according to Allah’s wisdom, knowledge and justice and all are in HIS possession. None has the power to control them. Allah said in

surah Al-Anbiyaa 23 (its English translation is):

    23. He cannot be questioned as to what He does, while they will be questioned.

Ibn. Qayyim said: “The truth about Sovereignty ( Al-Malik) is providing, preventing, honoring and dishonoring, rewarding with good or punishing according to Allah’s pleasure or anger respectively, giving high position ( like to a king ) or taking it away from them. Allah said in surah Ali-Imraan 26-27, (the English translation of these verses is):

    26.
Say, "O Allah , Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are able to do all things.

    27. You cause the night to enter the day, and You cause the day to enter the night; and You bring the living out of the dead, and You bring the dead out of the living. And You give provision to whom You will without account."

And Allah said in surah Al-Rahmaan verses 29 -30, (their English translation is):

    29. Whosoever is in the heavens and on earth begs of Him (its needs from Him). Every day He has a matter to bring forth (such as giving honour to some, disgrace to some, life to some, death to some, etc.)!

Another translation of the same verse is:

    29. Of Him seeks (its need) every creature in the heavens and on earth: every day in (new) Splendour doth He (shine)!

    30. Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny?

Allah forgives whom HE wills, gives health to sick and removes his pain, removes grief from and helps the oppressed ones, catches the cruel oppressors, makes beggars rich, will give honor to a low person and will bring down a powerful person, will take away some people and bring others in their place, will give rise and fall to nations and has written and ordained everything in fixed measure so that nothing comes earlier or later than its ordained time. So HE alone is The Malik and Possessor of all. All of HIS ordinances for HIS creation stay within HIS mercy, justice and wisdom; and nothing can go beyond HIS will and power.
Here is the English translation of a few verses for your understanding:

    Surah Faatir 13-14;

    13. He merges the night into the day (i.e. the decrease in the hours of the night are added to the hours of the day), and He merges the day into the night (i.e. the decrease in the hours of the day are added to the hours of the night). And He has subjected the sun and the moon, each runs its course for a term appointed. Such is Allah your Lord; His is the kingdom. And those, whom you invoke or call upon instead of Him, own not even a Qitmir (the thin membrane over the datestone).

    14. If you invoke (or call upon) them, they hear not your call, and if (in case) they were to hear, they could not grant it (your request) to you. And on the Day of Resurrection, they will disown your worshipping them. And none can inform you (O Muhammad SAW) like Him Who is the AllKnower (of each and everything).

    Surah Al-Maa’idah 76;
Say (O Muhammad SAW to mankind): "How do you worship besides Allah something which has no power either to harm or to benefit you? But it is Allah Who is the All-Hearer, All-Knower."

    Surah Al-Isra 56;

    56. Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Call unto those besides Him whom you pretend [to be gods like angels, Iesa (Jesus), 'Uzair (Ezra), etc.]. They have neither the power to remove the adversity from you nor even to change them."

Re: Ninety-Nine Beautiful Names Of Allah And Their Meaning

    Al-Quddoos, Al-Subooh ( read as As-Subooh)

Al-Quddos means The Holy One and Al-Subooh means The Prais-Worthy.

Al-Qudoos is mentioned in the Holy Quraan for e.g. in surah al-Hashar verse 23 and surah Al-Jummah verse 1.

Al-Subooh has come in the Sunnah. Ayishah rAa said that the Messenger salla Allaho alaihi wa sallam used to say in his rakoo and sujood ( bowing and prostration), “ Subboohun Quddoosun Rabbul Malaa’ikati wa Al-Rooh (read as Ar-Rooh).

The Two names confirm that Allah is very high above any defect, and weaknesses. For e.g. Allah is always alive and shall never die, is always awake and never sleeps. Even Allah doesn’t become drowsy. Allah is high above the weakness of needing or having children or wife. Allah cannot be resembled to any creation nor can any creation be resembled to HIM.

The exp. Note No. 37 of the verse 23 of surah Al-Hshar in the Commentary tafheem.net, (go to Towards Understanding the Quraan) gives good explanation of the name Al-Quddoos. It is here in the following:

*37 Quddus is a superlative. It means that AIlah is far exalted that He should have a fault or defect or demerit: He is the purest Being, no evil can be imagined about Him. Here, one should clearly understand that the attribute of holiness is a foremost accompaniment of sovereignty. Man's intellect and nature refuse to believe that a being who is the bearer of sovereignty may be mischievous, ill behaved, ill-natured, who may be characterised with these base qualities from whose power and authority his subjects might be in danger of suffering evil instead of being blessed with good. That is why wherever man thinks sovereignty is centred, he assumes holiness also to be there, even if it is not there, for absolute sovereignty is inconceivable without holiness. But. obviously, there is no real Sovereign except Allah, Who is holy, nor can there be. Whether it is monarchy, or sovereignty of the people, or dictatorship of the socialist system, or some other form of human rule in any case holiness for it is inconceivable.

Re: Ninety-Nine Beautiful Names Of Allah And Their Meaning

Verse 23 of surah Al-Hashr has a few beautiful names of Allah Almighty which are explained in the Tafheemul-Quraan. I have already explained some of them. For the remaining I will post the exp. notes of the same verse. The verse and its English translation are here:
    هُوَ اللّٰهُ الَّذِىۡ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا هُوَۚ اَلۡمَلِكُ الۡقُدُّوۡسُ السَّلٰمُ الۡمُؤۡمِنُ الۡمُهَيۡمِنُ الۡعَزِيۡزُ الۡجَـبَّارُ الۡمُتَكَبِّرُؕ سُبۡحٰنَ اللّٰهِ عَمَّا يُشۡرِكُوۡن23)

(59:23) He is Allah: there is no god but He: the King,36 the Holy,37 the All-Peace,39 the Giver of security,38 the Overseer,40 the Most Mighty,41 the Overpowering,42 the All-Great.43 Exalted be He from whatever they associate with Him.

    Al-Salaam (read as As-Salaam):

    The All-Peace

    Exp-note 38:

    38. The word As-Salam as used in the original means peace and Secure, Allah’s being called As-Salam means that He is peace and safety personified. He is far exalted that some calamity or weakness or defect should befall Him, or His Perfection should suffer a decline or blemish.

    Al-Mu’min (The Giver of security):

    Exp-note 39:

    39. The word Al-Mu'min is derived from amn, which means to secure from fear, and Mu'min is one who provides security to others. Allah has been called Al-Mumin in the sense that He provides security to His creatures. His creatures are secure from the fear that He would ever wrong them, or deprive them of their rights, or allow their rewards to go to waste, or would violate the promises He has made with them. Then, since no object has been mentioned with this subject, but the epithet of Al-Mumin has been used absolutely, it automatically gives the meaning that His security comprehends the entire universe and all that it contains.

    Al-Muhaimin

    Exp-note 40:

    40. The word Al-Muhaimin has three meanings:

    (1) The Guardian and Protector.

    (2) The Observer who sees what everyone does.

    (3) The Being Who has taken up the responsibility to fulfill the needs and requirements of the people.

Here also, since the word Al-Muhaimin has been used absolutely, and no object has been mentioned of this subject, therefore, it by itself gives the implied meaning that He is guarding and protecting all creatures, is watching the acts and deeds of everyone, and has taken up the responsibility of sustaining and providing for every creature in the universe with its needs and requirements.

    Al-Azeez: (The All-Mighty):

    Exp-note 41:

    41. Al-Aziz: such an Almighty Being against Whom no one may dare raise his head, no one may have the power to resist His decrees, before Whom everyone may be helpless and powerless.

Al-Jabbaar (The Enforcer of HIS decrees):

    Exp-note 42:

    42. The word Al-Jabbar as used in the original is derived from jabr which means setting something right by use of power, reforming something by force. Allah has been called Al-Jabbar in the sense that He sets the system of His universe right by the use of power and enforces His will, which is entirely based on wisdom. Moreover, the word Jabber also contains the meaning of greatness and glory. Thus, a palm-tree which is too tall for the people to pluck its fruit is called jabber in Arabic. Likewise, an act which is grand and glorious is called amal jabbar.

    Al-Mutakabbir (The Ever Supreme)

    Exp-note 43:

    43. The word Al-Mutakabbir has two meanings.

    (1) The one who is not actually great but poses as great.

    (2) The one who is actually great and sets himself up as such.

Whether it is man or Satan, or some other creature, since greatness does not, in fact, belong to it, its posing itself as great and claiming superiority over others is, a false claim and a vice. Contrary to this, Allah Almighty is truly Great and greatness actually belongs to Him, and everything in the universe is low and insignificant as against Him. Therefore, His being Great and setting Himself up as Great is no false claim but reality; it is not an evil quality but a virtue and excellence, which no one else has but Allah.

(My point: according to a hadeeth shareef, if a person has takabbur equal to a small particle in his/her heart /mind, he/she cannot enter Paradise.
Allah knows best the actual words of HIS Prophet (Allah's Peace and Blessings be upon him) . I don’t remember the name of the book of this hadeeth)

    Assalaamo alaykum,

The Prophet Muhammad salla Allaho alaihi wa sallam has advised us to read the Asmaa-Al-Husna every day after Maghrib prayer ( to protect our selves, our food and animals etc. from the harmful effects of night). If you start reading these names every day after evening prayer, insha Allah, you will learn them by heart.

Re: Ninety-Nine Beautiful Names Of Allah And Their Meaning

Here is the verse 24 of surah Al-hashr along with its English translation:

    هُوَ اللّٰهُ الۡخَـالِـقُ الۡبَارِئُ الۡمُصَوِّرُ لَـهُ الۡاَسۡمَآءُ الۡحُسۡنٰىؕ يُسَبِّحُ لَهٗ مَا فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالۡاَرۡضِۚ وَهُوَ الۡعَزِيۡزُ الۡحَكِيۡمُ24‏

    24. He is Allah, the Creator, the Evolver, the Bestower of Forms (or Colours). To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names: whatever is in the heavens and on earth, does declare His Praises and Glory: and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
    8
This verse 24 of surah Al-Hashr has some of the beautiful names of Allah Almighty. For their explanation, I am posting the exp.notes from the Tafheemul Qur’aan.

    Al-Khaaliq
(The Creator, The Planner of creation)

    Al-Baaree’ (The Evolver)

Al-Musawwir (The Bestower of forms and shapes, the Fashioner)

    Exp. note 45:

    45. That is, the entire world and everything in it, from the initial plan of its creation till its coming into existence in its final, finished form, is entirely Allah’s work of creation. Nothing has come into existence by itself nor come about accidentally, nor has anyone else the least share in its creation and development. Here, Allah’s act of creation has been described in three separate stages, which take place one after the other. First is the stage of khalq, which means to ordain, or to plan. It is like an engineer’s conceiving the design of a building, which he intends to build for a specific purpose and draws out its detailed diagram and model. The second stage is barr, which actually means to separate, to cut, to split asunder. The Creator has been called Al-barii in the sense that He enforces the plan He has conceived and brings out the thing from non-existence into existence. It is Analogous to the engineer’s putting marks on the ground of the full measurements of the building according to the plan, digging the foundations, raising the walls and completing all the practical preliminaries of the construction work. The third stage is taswir, which means to give shape; here it implies giving something its final complete shape. In all these three stages there is no resemblance whatever between Allah’s work and human works. None of human plans is such as may not have been derived from previous models and plans. But each of Allah’s plans is, unique and His own original creation. Whatever man makes, he makes it by combining the substances created by Allah. He does not bring anything from nonexistence into existence, but composes and constructs by different methods whatever is present and available. Contrary to this, Allah has brought everything from non-existence into creation, and the substance itself of which He has made the universe is created by Him. Likewise, in the matter of giving shape also man is not the inventor but an imitator, and only a poor imitator. The real Maker of forms and shapes is Allah, Who has given a unique and matchless shape to every species and individual and has never repeated exactly the same shape or from.

Re: Ninety-Nine Beautiful Names Of Allah And Their Meaning

    Al-Ghaffaar (The Forgiving )

This is the Attribute of Allah due to which Allah forgives the sins of mankind. There are three Attributes related with forgiveness. The other two will be described later insha Allah. These are Ghaafir, Al-ghafoor and Al-Ghaffaar
Ghaafir: The One Who forgives sins.

Al-Ghafoor: The One who forgives a lot of sins.

Al-Ghaffaar: The One Who forgives a lot more sins. We may consider this

Attribute like the superlative degree of the forgiving quality of Allah Almighty.

Allah said in verse 82 of surah Taha:

    Its English translation is:

    82. (20:82) But I am indeed Most Forgiving to him who repents and believes and does righteous works and keeps to the Right Way."60

The explanation given in the Tafheemul-Qur’aan is:

    60. According to this (
verse 82), there are four conditions for forgiveness:

    (1) Repentance: to refrain from rebellion, disobedience, shirk or disbelief.

    (2) Faith: sincere belief in Allah and the Messenger and the Book and the Hereafter.

    (3) Righteous works: to do good deeds according to the instructions of Allah and His Messenger.

    (4) Guidance: to follow the right way steadfastly and to refrain from straying into any wrong path.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We must remember that the vast forgiveness of Allah has conditions as you see in the verse 82 of surah Taha. Also we must keep in mind the following verses of surah Al-Nisaa for seeking forgiveness, (When a person turns to Allah for seeking forgiveness, his action is called repentance /tawbah. Also we say the word tawbah to Allah to forgive our sins. The other words are astaghfaar and astaghfirullah.

The verses of surah Al-Nisaa and their English translation is:

(4:17) (And remember that) Allah's acceptance of repentance is only for those who commit evil out of ignorance and then soon repent. It is towards such persons that Allah turns graciously. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

(4:18) But of no avail is repentance of those who do evil until death approaches any one of them and then he says: 'Now I repent.' Nor is the repentance of those who die in the state of unbelief, of any avail to them. For them We have kept in readiness a painful chastisement.27
    Exp-note 27:

    27. The Arabic word tawbah means 'to return, to come back'. A man's tawbah after he has sinned means that God's servant, who had turned away from his Master in disobedience, has repented, and has returned to obedience and service. On the other hand, tawbah on the part of God means that the attention of the Master, which had turned away from His erring servant, has once again turned towards him. In this verse, however, God makes it clear to His servants that tawbah is acceptable only from those who commit errors inadvertently and out of ignorance. Such persons will always find the door of God open for them whenever they turn to Him in repentance.

But this tawbah is not for those who pile sin upon sin throughout their lives in sheer indifference to God and who cry for pardon as soon as they see the angel of death approaching. The Prophet (peace be on him) has warned against this attitude in the following words: 'God accepts the repentance of a slave until the gurgling (of death) begins.' (Tirmidhi, 'Da'wat', 98; Ibn Majah, 'Zuhd', 30; Ahmad b. Hanbal, Musnad, vol. 2, pp. 132 and 153, and vol. 3, pp. 425 - Ed.) For when the last leaf of a man's book of life has been turned, what opportunity remains for a man to return to righteous conduct? Likewise, if a person spends even the very last moment of his life in a state of disbelief and then on the threshold of the Next Life he comes to discover that the facts are quite contrary to what he had imagined, what sense is there for him to seek forgiveness?
    (From the commentary of Tafheemul-Qur’aan)
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A scholar said on the you tube, in the explanation of Al-Ghaffaar, that for repenting to Allah and asking HIS forgiveness we must:

    1. Correct our intention to repent

2.. We must regret /have feelings of regret on committing the sin

    3. Resolution i.e. we must decide not to make the sin again.

    4. If a person has hurt someone in words, he must ask his forgiveness, if he has taken unjustly someone’s money or some other thing, then he must return his money or the thing to him. Only then will Allah forgive the sinner.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The above verses and explanation mean that we must be very careful and serious, trying to protect ourselves from making sins. One shouldn’t think that he can make sins freely because Allah is so much Forgiving and Merciful. No one can deceive Allah. Allah is All-Wise All-Knowing.

If any makes sin due to ignorance or mistake, then as soon as he/she realizes the sin, must regret and repent to Allah for forgiveness. Allah The Al-Ghaffaar will accept his tawbah and will forgive him/her if he/ she didn’t hurt or harm a person.

The scholar on you tube also said that Allah has promised a lot of blessings in this word by saying “astaghfaar” ( O Allah forgive me……..repeated). He then read a hadeeth of the Prophet (Allah's Peace and Blessings be upon him) which is as follows (in English):

The person who says lots of “astaghfaar”, Allah Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala will make a way out for him from each worry, and also a way out for him from each difficulty and trouble; and HE is going to sustain him from a side/ source that he could not expect.

The scholar’s statement is taken from the following you tube video:

Re: Ninety-Nine Beautiful Names Of Allah And Their Meaning

Al-Qahhaar ( The Dominant, The Subduer, The Omnipotent, The Irresistible )

Allah is The Owner of Absolute Power. No one can stop HIM from enforcing HIS Will. None can frustrate HIM. If HE wants to make a day longer, no one can stop this action of HIM. If Allah decrees the destruction of a nation, no one can protect that nation from destruction. Allah finally destroys the cruel Pharaoh’s and whenever Allah ordains their ruin, they get ruined and none can protect them. We must fear Allah’s Anger and must always try to obey Allah and Allah’s Prophet (Allah's Peace and Blessings be upon him) as well as we must frequently say astaghfirullah for the forgiveness of our sins. Allah takes revenge from those who are arrogant to HIM and those who harm others. All creation is beggar and humble to Allah. They have no power to benefit or harm nor can they bring any good except by the Will and Command of Allah.

This beautiful name of Allah has come in 6 places in the Holy Quraan, those are:

    Surah yousuf,
    Surah Al-Ra’d (read as Ar-Ra’d)
    Surah Ibraheem,
    Surah saad,
    Surah Al-Zumar (read as Az-Zumar).
    Surah Ghaafir (also called Al-Mu’min).

The verses with their English translation are:

    Surah Yousuf 39

(12:39) Fellow-prisoners! Is it better that there be diverse lords, or just Allah, the One, the Irresistible?

This verse is about the preaching of Yousuf alaihi salaam to the two prisoners in the prison when they wanted from him the meaning of their dreams.

    Surah Al-Ra’d verse 16:

(13:16) Ask them: "Who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth?" Say: "Allah."26 Tell them: "Have you taken beside Him as your patrons those who do not have the power to benefit or to hurt even themselves?" Say: "Can the blind and the seeing be deemed equals?27 Or can light and darkness be deemed equals?"28 If that is not so, then have those whom they associate with Allah in His Divinity ever created anything like what Allah did so that the question of creation has become dubious to them?29 Say: "Allah is the creator of everything. He is the One, the Irresistible."30

    Surah Ibraheem verse 48—51:

(14:48) (Do warn them of the) Day when the heavens and the earth shall be altogether changed;57 when all will appear fully exposed before Allah, the One, the Irresistible!

    (14:49) On that Day you shall see the guilty ones secured in chains;

(14:50) their garments shall be black58 as if made out of pitch, and flames of the Fire shall cover their faces

(14:51) so that Allah may requite each person for his deeds. Allah is swift in reckoning.

    Surah Saad verses 65:

(38:65) Tell them, (O Prophet):56 “I am nothing but a warner.57 There is no deity but Allah, The One, The Irresistible.

    Surah Al-Zumar ( Az-Zumar) verse 4:

(39:4) If Allah had wanted to take to Himself a son, He could have chosen anyone He wanted out of those whom He creates.8 Glory be to Him (that He should have a son). He is Allah: the One, the Overpowering.9

    Exp-note 8—9:

    8. That is, it is just impossible that Allah should have begotten a son. The only possibility is that Allah should choose someone for Himself; and whomever He chooses will inevitably be from among the creatures, for everything in the world, apart from Allah, is His creation. Now, evidently, however exalted and chosen a creature might be, it cannot have the position of the offspring. For between the Creator and the created there exists a great disparity of nature and essence and character, and parenthood necessarily demands that there should be the unity of nature and essence between a father and his offspring. Besides, one should also bear in mind the point that the words: “If Allah had intended to take a son, He could have chosen from what He created” themselves give the meaning that Allah has never intended so. Here the object is to impress that not to speak of taking a son, Allah has never even intended so.

    9. The following are the arguments by which the doctrine of parenthood has been refuted:

First, that Allah is free from every defect and fault and weakness. Obviously, children are needed by the one who is defective and weak. The one who is mortal and stands in need of them, so that his progeny should continue to live after him in the world. Likewise, he who adopts a son does so either because he feels the need of having an heir, being childless himself, or he adopts a son being overpowered by love of somebody. Attributing such human weaknesses to Allah and forming religious creeds on their basis is nothing but ignorance and shortsightedness.
The second argument is that Allah in His essence and Being is unique. He is not a member of a species, whereas, evidently, offspring must necessarily belong to a species. Furthermore, there can be no concept of offspring without marriage, and marriage can take place only between homogeneous individuals. Therefore, the one who proposes offspring for the Unique and Matchless Being like Allah, is ignorant and foolish.

The third argument is that Allah is Omnipotent, i.e. whatever is there in the world is subdued to Him and is held in His powerful grasp. No one in this Universe has any resemblance with Him in any way or degree on account of which it may be imagined that he has a relation with Allah.

Surah Ghaafir verses 16—17: (Another name of this surah is Al-Mu’min)

(40:16) the Day when they will emerge and nothing of them shall be hidden from Allah. (On that Day they will be asked): “Whose is the kingdom today?”27 (The whole world will cry out): “It is Allah's, the One, the Overpowering.”

    Exp-note 27

    27. That is, though in the world many vain and selfconceited people publicly proclaimed to be the kings and sovereigns, whose, in fact, is the Kingdom today? Who is the Owner of the powers and authority and Whose is the command? If a person hears these words in his right senses, he will be filled with terror, no matter how mighty a king or dictator he might be posing himself to be, and will immediately come to his senses. Here the mention of an historical event will not be out of place. When the Samanid ruler, Nasr bin Ahmad (301-331 A.H.), entered Nishapur, he held a court and after ascending the throne desired that the proceedings be started with recitation from the Quran. At this an elderly pious man came forward and recited this very section of this Surah. When he came to this verse, Nasr was struck with awe; he descended the throne trembling, took off the crown and fell down in prostration, saying: O my Lord, Kingdom is Thine, not mine!

    __________________________________________________ ____________

I have posted only those verses in Arabic which have the name Al-Qahhaar. Any more verses which I posted, were only to understand the text and I posted them when needed. Please note it that in all of the 6 places “Al-Qahhaar and Al-Waahid (The One) “ are mentioned together. This indicates that the Tawheed (Faith in the absolute Oneness of Allah is extremely important to protect ourselves from the anger and punishment of The Irresistible God--- Allah Almighty. Man, a weak creation, should not confront The Omnipotent God.

I also posted some of the exp-notes as it seemed to me necessary for full understanding.

Re: Ninety-Nine Beautiful Names Of Allah And Their Meaning

    Al-Wahhaab

It comes from the word “wahaba” which means he gave ( gave a gift)—to give –to bestow. Allah is The Giver, The Bestower of what HE wants and to whom HE wants. The specificity of this Attribute of Allah is that Allah, when HE wants and to whomever HE wants gives even before his/her asking for it, and gives without any price for it. This Attribute has come in the following verses of the Holy Qur’aan:

    1. Surah Aali-Imraan verse 8;

    رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغۡ قُلُوۡبَنَا بَعۡدَ اِذۡ هَدَيۡتَنَا وَهَبۡ لَنَا مِنۡ لَّدُنۡكَ رَحۡمَةً  ۚ اِنَّكَ اَنۡتَ الۡوَهَّابُ‏ 8

(3:8) They pray to Allah: 'Our Lord! Do not let our hearts swerve towards crookedness after You have guided us to the right way, and. bestow upon us Your mercy. Surely You, only You, are the Munificent Giver!

    1. Surah Saad verse 9:

(38:9) Do they possess the treasures of your Lord, the Most Mighty, the Great Bestower?

    Surah saad verse 35:

(38:35) He said: “My Lord, forgive me and bestow upon me a kingdom such as none other after me will deserve. Surely You are the Bounteous Giver.”36

Special favours on the Prophets alaihim salaam:

In the verse 35 of surah Saad there is the du’aa (supplication ) of Solaimaan alaihi salaam which was accepted By Allah The Al-Wahhaab Who then gave to Solaimaan alaihi salaam a unique type of kingdom in which he ruled on mankind. Jinn kind, birds/animals and on wind.

Allah is The Owner of the treasures of the heavens and the earth. If HE gives to all of the Jinn and mankind from the beginning of the world to the end, no deficiency will happen in HIS treasures.

Allah gave lots of blessings to HIS prophets. For e.g. Allah said in surah Maryam verse 50 about Ibraheem, Is-haaq and Yaqoob alaihim salaam (English translation of the verse is ):

(19:50) and We bestowed on them Our mercy, and granted them a truly lofty renown.28

About Musa alaihi salaam, Allah said in surah Maryam verse 53, (English translation):

(19:53) and out of Our mercy We appointed his brother Aaron, a Prophet (that he may assist him).

About Ayoob alaihi salaam Allah Almighty said in surah Saad 43, Its English translation is:

(38:43) And We granted to him his family and also the like of them,44 as a mercy from Us, and as a reminder to people of understanding,45

Zakariyya alaihi salaam prayed to Allah to give him a child. Allah Almighty accepted his du’aa and gave him Yahya alaihi salaam. Allah said in surah Al-Anbiyaa 90, (Its Engish translarion is):

(21:89) And We bestowed favour upon Zechariah, when he cried to his Lord: "Lord! Leave me not solitary (without any issue). You are the Best Inheritor."

(21:90) So We accepted his prayer and bestowed upon him John, and We made his wife fit86 (to bear a child). Verily they hastened in doing good works and called upon Us with longing and fear, and humbled themselves to Us.87
His wife had sterility, Allah gave her normal health and fertility in that very old age to produce a baby.

    Giving gifts to common people:

    Allah said in surah Al- Shura (read as Ash-Shura) verses 49—50 (The English translation is );

((42:49) The dominion of the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah.76 He creates whatever He pleases. He grants females to whomever He pleases and males to whomever He pleases,

(42:50) or grants them a mix of males and females, and causes whomever He pleases to be barren. He is All- Knowing, All-Powerful.77

    Exp. note 77:

    77. This is a manifest proof of Allah’s Sovereignty being absolute. No man, whether he be posing as owner of the highest worldly authority, or regarded as owner of great spiritual powers, has ever been able to produce children for himself according to his own choice and desire, not to speak of providing children for others. The one whom Allah made barren could not have children through any medicine, any treatment, any amulet or charm. The one whom Allah gave only daughters could not get a single son by any device, and the one whom Allah gave only sons could not have a single daughter by any means. In this matter everyone is absolutely helpless. Even after seeing all this if some one posed to be all-powerful in God’s kingdom, or regarded another as a possessor of the powers, it would be his own shortsightedness for which he himself will suffer, the truth will not change at all.

    ____________________________________________

Our du’aa as given in surah Al-Furqaan:

    وَالَّذِيۡنَ يَقُوۡلُوۡنَ رَبَّنَا هَبۡ لَـنَا مِنۡ اَزۡوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيّٰتِنَا قُرَّةَ اَعۡيُنٍ وَّاجۡعَلۡنَا لِلۡمُتَّقِيۡنَ اِمَامًا‏ 74

(25:74) who are prone to pray: "Our Lord! Grant us that our spouses and our offspring be a joy to our eyes,92 and do make us the leaders of the God-fearing."93

We must always be hopeful and pray to Allah. Zakariya alaihi salaam was given a son namely Yahya (John) alaihi salam when he and his wife were both very old. Also his wife was infertile. Ibraheem alaihi salaam was given Is-haaq alaihi salaam when he was 100 years old and his wife was 99 years old!

Allah Almighty bestowed lots of gifts and blessings on the Ummah of Muhammad salla Allaho alaihi wa sallam. A scholar said on you tube during his speech, that we have a life better than the kings of the past. In the past it was difficult for a king to get cool water. They had to put water in leather/skin container underground to make it cool. So, if not in quantity but certainly, in quality, our life is much better. Now we have refrigerators to get cool water. We have elevators, cars, escalators, trains, air planes. We have shower in our houses and get cool or warm water as we like. Many blessings like this are in our service. Allah gave us all of such blessings without our asking for them. Even people couldn’t imagine such blessings as we have now. All of these blessings are due to the Al-Wahhaab attribute of Allah. We must pay lots of thanks to Allah for these blessings and our thanks must be both orally and practically. We must help poor and needy people to pay practical thanks to Allah. Also we must celebrate the praises of Allah and must worship HIM day and night.

Re: Ninety-Nine Beautiful Names Of Allah And Their Meaning

Al-Razzaaq ( The Giver of sustenance)

In other words Al-Razzaaq (read as Ar-Razzaaq) is The Supreme Being Who provides you (and us all) the sustenance that you (and we) need.

Allah Almighty may increase the provision to whom HE likes and may decrease to whom HE likes while to others Allah may provide abundantly without measure. This is because Allah is Aleemun-Qadeer i.e. Allah is All-Knowing and Powerful. So Allah’s decision of provision to everyone is based on HIS perfect knowledge and wisdom and it is to test mankind. We are tested with wealth and poverty to make a record of our patience and our gratitude to Allah in different circumstances.

This Quality of Allah Almighty has come in many verses of the Holy Quraan. These verses mention all types of provision as stated above. Some of them are here:

    Surah Al-Dhariyaat 58:

(51:58) Surely Allah is the Bestower of all provision, the Lord of all power, the Strong.55

    Surah Al-Jumu’a 11:

(62:11) Yet no sooner than they saw some trading or amusement, they flocked to it and left you standing by yourself.19 Tell them: “That which is with Allah is far better than amusement and trading.20 Allah is the Best Provider of sustenance.”21

    Exp. note 21:

    21. That is, Allah is by far the best of all those providers who become a means of providing sustenance in the world, though only metaphorically. Sentences such as this have occurred at several places in the Quran, At some places Allah has been called the best of Creators, at others the best of Forgivers, the best of Rulers, the best of those who show mercy, or the best of Helpers. At all these places the reference of providing, creating, forgiving, showing mercy and offering help to the creatures is metaphorical, and to Allah real. It means that Allah is the best Provider, Creator, Forgiver, Helper and Bestower of Mercy of all those who appear to be giving you wages and means of sustenance, or who appear to be making things by their skill and workmanship, or who seem to be pardoning the errors of others, or showing mercy and helping other in this

    Surah Al-Ankaboot 60:

(29:60) How many an animal there is that does not carry about its sustenance. Allah provides sustenance to them and to you. He is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.99

    Surah Al-Baqarah 212:

(2:212) Worldly life has been made attractive to those who have denied the Truth. Such men deride the men of faith, but the pious shall rank higher than them on the Day of Resurrection. As for worldly livelihood, Allah grants it to whomsoever He wills without measure.

    Surah Al-Israa 30

(17:30) Certainly Your Lord makes plentiful the provision of whomsoever He wills and straitens it for whomsoever He wills. He is well-aware and is fully observant of all that relates to His servants.30

    Exp. note 30:

    30. That is, man cannot realize the wisdom of the disparity of wealth among the people. Therefore, man should not try to interfere by artificial means with the natural distribution of wealth. It is wrong to level down natural inequality or to aggravate it by artificial means so as to make it unjust. Both the extremes are wrong. The best economic system is that which is established on the divine Way of the division of wealth.
As a result of the realization of the wisdom of economic disparity, no such problems arose which might have made that disparity an evil in itself so as to demand the creation of a classless society. On the contrary, in the righteous society established at Al-Madinah on these divine principles which are akin to human nature, the economic differences were not artificially disturbed. But by means of moral and legal reforms these became the means of many moral, spiritual and cultural blessings and benefits instead of becoming the means of injustice. Thus, the wisdom of the disparity created by the Creator of the Universe was practically demonstrated at Al-Madinah.

Allah is The Only Raaziq (The Provider of sustenance). If Allah withholds someone’s rizq (sustenance) then no one can give him rizq. Allah said in surah Al-Mulk verse 21:

    اَمَّنۡ هٰذَا الَّذِىۡ يَرۡزُقُكُمۡ اِنۡ اَمۡسَكَ رِزۡقَهٗ ۚ بَلۡ لَّجُّوۡا فِىۡ عُتُوٍّ وَّنُفُوۡرٍ‏ 21

(67:21) Who shall provide for you if He withholds His sustenance? Nay; but they persist in rebellion and aversion.

Allah has placed our sustenance in the earth. The earth is a store of treasures for us. Everyone has to work and struggle for getting his rizq. Again for the struggle we need the means. Allah said in surah Al-Mulk verse 15:

    هُوَ الَّذِىۡ جَعَلَ لَـكُمُ الۡاَرۡضَ ذَلُوۡلًا فَامۡشُوۡا فِىۡ مَنَاكِبِهَا وَكُلُوۡا مِنۡ رِّزۡقِهٖؕ وَاِلَيۡهِ النُّشُوۡرُ‏ 15

(67:15). He it is Who made the earth subservient to you. So traverse in its tracks and partake of the sustenance23 He has provided. To Him will you be resurrected.24

    Exp. notes 23 and 24:

23 That is, this earth has not become subdued for you of its own accord, and the provisions also that you are eating have not become available here by themselves, but Allah has so arranged it by His wisdom and power that your life became possible here and this splendid globe became so peaceful that you are moving about on it with full peace of mind, and it has become such a vast table spread with food that it contains endless and limitless provisions for your sustenance. If you are not lost in heedlessness and look about yourself intelligently, you will find how much wisdom underlies in the making of this earth habitable for you and arranging in it immeasurable stores of provisions for you. (For explanation, see (
    E.Ns 73, 74, 81 of Surah An-Naml); (E.Ns 29, 32 of Surah YaSeen); (E.Ns 90, 91 of Al-Momin), (E.N. 7 of Surah Az-Zukhruf), (E.N. 7 of Surah Al-Jathiyah), (E.N. 18 of Surah Qaf).

    24. That is, while you move about on the earth and eat of what Allah has provided for you here, you should not forget that ultimately you have to appear before God one day.

Then while struggling we have to trust Allah, the Al-Razzaaq, Dhul-Quwwatil-Mateen ( The Owner of tremendous Power). We cannot explain Allah’s power in our words! The Prophet (Allah's Peace and Blessings be upon him) gave us an example of birds and said: “If you have trust in Allah you will get sustenance like birds. They fly out in the morning empty stomach, find rizq and come back in the evening full stomach”.

(Allah knows best the words of HIS Prophet (Allah's Peace and Blessings be upon him). I heard the speech on you tube on the following link:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSl6kWKQnz4 )

We can see that birds fly and try to find sustenance and Allah gives them sustenance even if it is raining or snowing. So we must work hard to get lawful sustenance. If a Muslim died while struggling to get lawful (halaal) rizq, he/she becomes Shaheed of 2nd degree.
We also must make du’aa and say astaghfaar for getting good halaal rizq. The Prophet Muhammad (Allah's Peace and Blessings be upon him) used to recite surah Al-Waaqiyah after maghrib prayer and has informed us that by reading this surah after maghrib prayer, the reader will not be in difficulty concerning his rizq. He will be (insha-Allah), free from debth. Allah knows best the Prophet (Allah's Peace and Blessings be upon him)’s words. I read it somewhere in the tafseer of the Holy Qur’aan.
