Do you prefer something which is local? You should check with nearby masajid and see what types of organizations and charities you can support. Sometimes masjids need help too.
I would like to give sadaqah on a regular basis such as a 5 pound a week

It is traditional in Islam to give to your local area need first. The administrators can always further the money out of the circle should all local needs be met or to their discretion
