    Bismillaah:

    Abu Bakr As-Siddiq رضى الله عنه said:

    The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

    “Any person who sins then performs wudu correctly and prays and afterward seeks Allaah’s forgiveness Allaah forgives him.” Then As-Siddiq recited the verse”

    And those who when they commit an indecency or do injustice to their souls remember Allaah and ask forgiveness for their faults - and who forgives the faults but Allaah, and (who) do not knowingly persist in what they have done.

    {Ali-Imran: 135}

    Takhreej:

    { Imam Ahmad in his Musnad vol1/2 and graded as Hasan by At Tirmithi, Ibn Hibban, Ibn Adi, Ibn Kathir, Adh Dhahabi, Al Albaani, Al Arnaoot and Abu Muaadh رحمهم الله }

    Al Imam Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله commented:

    "It is a recommended act for every person who sinned to perform Wudu then pray two Rak’ah.

    { Majmu al Fataawa 21 / 139 }

    Al Imam Ibn Al Arabi رحمه الله commented:

    - This hadeeth shows the superiority of the Wudu, the prayer and the act of seeking Allaah’s forgiveness
    - This hadeeth explains verse 135 in surah Al-Imran.
    - This hadeeth shows how the servant carries out acts of obedience in repenting. First the servant feels regret which purifies him internally. Then he makes wudu. Next he prays. And after he finishes praying he seeks the Most Merciful’s forgiveness.

    { Aaridat ul Ahwadhi Sharh Sunnan At Tirmithi 2 /167 }
