Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (1881–10 November 1938), until 1934 Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pasha, Turkish army officer and revolutionist statesman, was the founder and the first President of the Republic of Turkey. Mustafa Kemal established himself as a successful military commander while serving as a division commander in the Battle of Gallipoli. Following the defeat of the Ottoman Empire at the hands of the Allies, and the subsequent plans for its partition, Mustafa Kemal led the Turkish national movement in what would become the Turkish War of Independence. His successful military campaigns led to the liberation of the country and the establishment of the Republic of Turkey. As the Republic's first president, Mustafa Kemal introduced a range of far reaching reforms which sought to create a modern, ostensibly democratic and secular state. According to the Law on Family Names, the Turkish Grand Assembly presented Mustafa Kemal with the name "Atatürk" (meaning "Father" or "Ancestor Turk".) on 24 November 1934.

Re: Mustafa Kemal Atatürk , a traitor??

He abandoned all the rulings of Allah, abandoned the adhan in arabic, killed all the prominent Muslim scholars at the time in remote unknown destinations, banned the hijaab for the Muslim sisters, all Islamic holidays were cancelled and made every attempt to make the following generation disregard any Islamic knowledge, he desobeyed Allah and promoted this way of thinking to the Turks...A hero? in the eyes of a Muslim? I think not...Allahu Alim...

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/talking_point/3192647.stm

When the modern Turkish republic was born in 1923, its founding father Mustafa Kemal Ataturk pushed through what was arguably the most radical programme of secularisation ever attempted in any Muslim society, before or since.
In 1924 he abolished the caliphate and began a sweeping reform of Turkish politics, law, and culture. He encouraged adoption of a European way of life, with Turkish written in the Latin alphabet and with citizens adopting family names; he was given the name Atatürk ("Father of the Turks") by the National Assembly.

Re: Mustafa Kemal Atatürk , a traitor??

In Malaysian textbooks, Kemal Ataturk is praised as a hero. Young Turks Movement is being potrayed as the reason why Malays established Kesatuan Melayu Muda (Young Malays Union) which ended up with Independent of Malaysia.

In media (held by Government), no bad things being said about Turkish Secularism and Kemal Ataturk.

But the Islamists in Malaysia, are very anti of Kemal Ataturk.

Generally, Malaysians regard Turkey as good and friendly nation which inspired the independence of Malaysia.

There are even some Malays who want Malaysia to be like Turkey.
