In The Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Self-Critique
Weigh yourself before you’re weighed,
Departure will not be delayed,
We pray to be of those well-paid,
Not of those who had strayed,
We fear a day when all will fade,
Each one looking for some shade,
A child’s hair having grayed,
A day or less had we stayed?
This bed of mine is to be made,
To be a place where I am laid,
What I’ve done will be displayed,
My good deeds rush to my aid,
But if I simply laughed and played,
Thinking little while I prayed,
Should I not be dismayed?
No blame upon all that swayed.
With Ramadan on the Horizon, what a perfect time to reflect on the self…… As evil will be cordoned off (the devils chained and doors of hell closed). A real chance to see what leads us to deviate within our own souls, outside of the usual external forces that tempt us. Likewise, it is an important time to identify the natural disposition of sources of good that we have an affinity towards (as the doors of Paradise and goodness will be fully opened), and try to manifest this goodness in actions.
May Allah Purify our souls during this month and wipe out any rancor in hearts.
InshaAllah & Aameen!!
