    Hadeeth of the day (OP)

As salaam alekum ( Peace be upon you)

Hadeeth means the words, actions, approval or attributes that have been narrated from the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).

    Narrated Muawiya bin Suwald:

I heard Al-Bara' bin 'Azib saying, "The Prophet (S.A.W) orders us to do seven things and prohibited us from doing seven other things." Then Al-Bara' mentioned the following:--

    (1) To pay a visit to the sick (inquiring about his health),

    (2) to follow funeral processions,

    (3) to say to a sneezer, "May Allah be merciful to you" (if he says, "Praise be to Allah!"),

    (4) to return greetings,

    (5) to help the oppressed,

    (6) to accept invitations,

    (7) to help others to fulfill their oaths.

Narrated Ibn `Umar (RA): The Prophet (SAW) said, "A woman entered the (Hell) Fire because of a cat which she had tied, neither giving it food nor setting it free to eat from the vermin of the earth."

Abdullah ibn Amr reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

Convey from me, even a single verse. Narrate from the children of Israel, for there is no blame in it. Whoever deliberately lies about me, let him take his seat in Hellfire.

    Re: Hadeeth of the day

Al-Shafi’i, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

It is known that the Prophet (ṣ) did not approve of falsehood. Thus, the meaning is to narrate from the children of Israel what is known not to be false.

    Re: Hadeeth of the day

Abu Musa reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

Verily, the parable of the guidance and knowledge that Allah Almighty sent with me is the likeness of rain falling upon the earth. Among them is a good group which receives the water and thus there is abundant growth of herbage and grass. Among them is a barren land which retains the water and thus Allah benefits people from it; they drink from it and graze their animals. And it falls upon another group which is only abysmal; it does not retain water, nor does herbage grow. Such is the parable of one who understands the religion of Allah and benefits from what Allah sent with me; he learns and he teaches. Such is the parable of one who does not raise his head and does not accept the guidance Allah sent with me.

Verily, Allah does not withhold knowledge by snatching it away from his servants, but rather he withholds knowledge by taking the souls scholars, until no scholar remains and people follow ignorant leaders. They are asked and they issue judgments without knowledge. Thus, they are astray and lead others astray.

    Narrated/Authority of Anas
A funeral procession passed in front of the Prophet (SAW) and the people praised the deceased. The Prophet (SAW) said, "It has been affirmed (Paradise)." Then another funeral procession passed by and the people talked badly of the deceased. The Prophet (SAW) said, "It has been affirmed (Hell)." Allah's Apostle (SAW) was asked, "O Allah's Apostle (SAW)! You said it has been affirmed for both?" The Prophet (SAW) said, "The testimony of the people (is accepted), (for) the believer are Allah's witnesses on the earth."

HADITH 31: THE CONCEPT OF AL-ZUHD (ASCETICISM) IN ISLAM
    hadith 31

On the authority of Abu al-‘Abbas Sahl bin Sa’d al-Sa’idi, radiyallahu ‘anhu, who said:

A man came to the Prophet, sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam, and said: “O Messenger of Allah, direct me to an act which if I do it, [will cause] Allah to love me and people to love me.” He, sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam, answered: “Be indifferent to the world and Allah will love you; be indifferent to what people possess and they will love you.”

[A fine hadith related by Ibn Majah and others with good chains of authorities]

    Background

This hadith is a weak hadith as pointed out by many scholars. Ibn Rajab gave a detailed argument about the weakness of this hadith. However, later scholars still recorded their commentaries on the text of the hadith for several reasons. The major two reasons are:

Sometimes the chain of the narrators (sanad) is not strong and the hadith consequently is not an authentic hadith. But the meaning of the text of the hadith is correct and acceptable. In this case the scholars still give their comments on the hadith.
The hadith is related to one of the major concepts in Islam which is al-zuhd. Unfortunately, many Muslims misunderstand and misinterpret this concept due to the influence of other cultures. We need to remove this misunderstanding or misinterpretation which is linked to this concept.
Ibn Rajab says that this hadith contains some great advice:

Prophet Muhammad, sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam, said the renouncing of this world will lead to the love of Allah. In other words, the one who practices this zuhd will be loved by Allah.
To renounce what people possess and that will cause the love of people to the person who practices zuhd. Al-zuhd has been emphasized in the Qur’an and hadiths especially zuhd in this world. In Surah al-Nisa’ Ayah 77, Allah says:
Brief is the enjoyment of this world whereas the life to come is best for all who are muttaqun or conscious of Allah.

In Surah al-Ra’d Ayah 20, Allah says:

The life of this world is nothing but a flitting pleasure.

Al-‘Abbas b. ‘Abd al-Muttalib, may Allah be pleased with him, reported Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, as saying, “He who is well-pleased with Allah as Lord, with Islam as religion, and with Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, as messenger will experience the savour of faith,”

Muslim transmitted it. (Mishkat al-Masabih 9, Book 1, Hadith 8)

Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, as saying, “When a man dies no further reward is recorded for his actions, with three exceptions: sadaqa which continues to be supplied, or knowledge from which benefit continues to be reaped, or the prayers of a good son for his dead father.”

Muslim transmitted it. (Mishkat al-Masabih 203, Book 2, Hadith 6)

    Re: Hadeeth of the day

Jabir b. Abdullah reported that Allah's Apostle ( -صلی -اللہ -علیہ -وسلم - ) happened to walk through the bazar coming from the side of 'Aliya and the people were on both his sides. There he found a dead lamb with very short ears. He took hold of his ear and said: Who amongst you would like to have this for a dirham? They said: We do not like to have it even for less than that as it is of no use to us. He said: Do you wish to have it (free of any cost)? They said: By Allah, even if it were alive (we would not have liked to possess that), for there is defect in it as its ear is very short; now it is dead also. Thereupon Allah's Messenger ( -صلی -اللہ -علیہ -وسلم - ) said: By Allah, this world is more insignificant in the eye of Allah than it (this dead lamb) is in your eye.
