In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

    As-Salāmu `Alaykum (السلام عليكم):

Why the Sunna of Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم‎ ) outlined in the Sahih (sound, authentic) hadith (reports, accounts) compliments the Quran.

The primary reason for creating this thread is to provide clarification why the Sunna of Prophet Muhammad
(صلى الله عليه وسلم‎ ) which is chronicled in hadith (reports, accounts) are vital and essential to the practice of Islam.
The Quran is the word of Allah and is indisputable and irrefutable. Obeying the Prophet is obligatory and can be done through his sayings and actions in his Sunna. The manner Muslims refer our differences to the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم‎ ) is through his Sunna collected in Sahih hadith.

If you study the tafsir (commentary) of the following ayat (sign, verse) you should understand the importance of the application, practice and acknowledgement of Sahih (sound) hadith.

    Surah Nisa 4:59

O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger, and those charged with authority among you. If ye differ in anything among yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if ye do believe in Allah and the Last Day: That is best, and most suitable for final determination. (Y Ali translation)

    Surah Nisa 4:64

We sent not an apostle, but to be obeyed, in accordance with the will of Allah. If they had only, when they were unjust to themselves, come unto thee and asked Allah's forgiveness, and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah indeed Oft-returning, Most Merciful. (Y Ali translation)

    Surah Jumu’ah 62:2

It is He Who has sent amongst the Unlettered an apostle from among themselves, to rehearse to them His Signs, to sanctify them, and to instruct them in Scripture and Wisdom,- although they had been, before, in manifest error;- (Y Ali translation)

    Surah Al A’raf 7:157

"Those who follow the apostle, the unlettered Prophet, whom they find mentioned in their own (scriptures),- in the law and the Gospel;- for he commands them what is just and forbids them what is evil; he allows them as lawful what is good (and pure) and prohibits them from what is bad (and impure); He releases them from their heavy burdens and from the yokes that are upon them. So it is those who believe in him, honour him, help him, and follow the light which is sent down with him,- it is they who will prosper." (Y Ali translation)

    Surah Azhab 33:36

It is not fitting for a Believer, man or woman, when a matter has been decided by Allah and His Messenger to have any option about their decision: if any one disobeys Allah and His Messenger, he is indeed on a clearly wrong Path. (Y Ali translation)

The hadith records the practices of Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) and how he implemented the commands of Allah.

The Quran outlines the obligations of Salat and even mentions positions, etc. But the Sunna of Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم‎ ) provides the adherent with the map of how to pray.

Because there are hadith (reports, accounts) that have been noted as weak, false, etc there are groups that attempt to denounce following or accepting the application of hadith. The ayat used by the groups don’t even refer to Muslims or apply to hadith. Understanding the historical Quranic text, context and background is helpful. A understanding why Allah revealed a ayat would actually dispel the misinformation regarding hadith.

If you desire to contribute an opposing view please provide Dalil (evidence) from Quran. If you are opposed to sahih (sound) hadith you will not use hadith to support your view.

Note: The following threads address exhaustingly the science of sahih hadith and the refutation of those who attempt to attack the sahih hadith application.

This thread was created with the best intentions.

    Jazakumullahu Khair
