I have no idea why people put animal products into desserts - sometimes you'll find gelatine in the strangest of places.
Shellac is the resin from the female lac bug - it isn't halal and sometimes is used to coat candies. All you do is read through the ingredients to make sure there's no shellac.

I think there was this one time i was in the yogurt dessert section for a good 10mins, and i was nwxt to this lady who quickly picked something, came back a few mins later and saw me there, and gave me this weird funny look like "are you really still here, how fat are you" LOL as she came closer to get a 2nd thing i said out loud " ewww why does this dessert have pig in it" she paused to grab what i was looking at and picked something else and quickly sped away LOOOOL
