Asalaamualaykum.
I have spoken to Ulema about this topic as it directly relates to my professional field.
The topic of insanity is a long and winded study in itself through 1400 years as the medical world has changed their criteria from studies carried out and new diagnostics.
Cutting a long story short - Bipolar disorder in your case would be regarded as sane for the simple fact that you have stated that you know the difference between wrong and right.
Does that mean all Bipolar patients are considered as sane in Islam? The answer would have to be no because some degrees in Bipolar will render a patient where they are not cognitive for a period of time.

Hi.. you are not insane just believe that Allah swt guides you always.. your lord gives you mercy..yahrhamuka rabbuk. I myself was diagnosed with schizophrenia.. but i can really distinguish from right or wrong.. just don't share too much about yourself to your friends that you have that disorder to refrain from anger.. i moved here in usa because all my friends walk away so be careful of sharing the things that might scared them.. but just be kind and refrain anger because we are something special.. because even with these disorders we know that our lord Allah is there to guide us.. you are not alone just focus whatever happens Allah swt wont leave you.. SubhanAllah wa' bihamdihi.. peace be with you.. 57

You really can't control it.. i think i already have 7 episodes in being crazy.. 1st.. i stop the car in the middle of traffic lights and walk away leaving my car.. and when im near at my home i remove my clothes everything except my boxer shorts and walk home.. second i robbed a gasoline station but i hypnotized the saleslady and the security guard and walk away..and so on All i know that Allah is guiding me always to be safe. But after all that episodes i ask for forgiveness and thank Allah that im alive and nobody shot me while being crazy. we with disorders need to find the truth but 1st you need to control your emotions and forget bout people what they think of you.. you dont need them you need Allah swt.. just feel the inner heart and you'll be fine..forgive,be kind, and understand that Allah swt has purpose for us.. All of us has a purpose.. some with knowledge, some are without, some are good, some are bad..All we need is to realize and feel what Allah wants us to be.. i hope this will help you..

This coming Saturday in sh'Allah, I am filming a Doctor who has specialised in mental health, he will be giving a talk in Central London Mosque in Regents Park.
Stay tuned, video should be up early next week in sh'Allah.
Also, in the near future, i'm planning to film Doctor Rizwan Saleem from Ha Meem Foundation and College, he is a qualified Doctor of mental health as well, as well as a shaikh. Keep us in your dua, we hope to shed light on this much ignored subject from within the Muslim populations of the world.
