Question Halal Meat Vs. Zabihah Meat?

    Report bad ads?

    786

    Salam Brothers, Sisters and Elders,

I've heard many disagreements on whether Halal meat is the same as Zabihah meat. Many stores in our area sell Halal meat but they are not sure if it is Zabihah. Is there a difference? Or is it all the same?

    Jazakallah Cair,
    -Shahid

Re: Halal Meat Vs. Zabihah Meat?

zabiha means slaughtered.. Halal means slaughtered but in the name of God, in my mind I believe that might be the difference one simply slaughtered, one slaughtered in the name of God.. but I am not a Muslim scholar, if it really concerns you, you might want to ask a scholar and I am not sure if there are any on the board? maybe one or two but I don't see them posting anymore..

Re: Halal Meat Vs. Zabihah Meat?

My understanding is that halal means permissable in contrast to haram which means forbidden. I believe that zabiha means that the animal was slaughtered according to Islamic requirements. Zabiha meat is halal, but halal does not neccessarily mean zabiha. For example, I understand that meat of the People of the Book is permissable (halal) for us even though the animal was not slaughtered according to Islamic requirements. The exception, of course, is that Christians eat pork which is haram for us.

There are some Muslims who question whether or not modern day Christians are from the People of the Book. My opinion is that they are, because even in the Quran they are acknowledged as ascribing partners with Allah by saying that Jesus is the Son of God. Also remember the questioning by the Qurayish of the the Muslim refuge/imigrants in front of the Christian Abyssinian king regarding Islamic beliefs about Jesus. A more knowledgeable scholar is welcome to correct my mistakes.

FYI During Ramadan, my wife and I decided to eat only zabiha meat or seafood.

Re: Halal Meat Vs. Zabihah Meat?

^^ I hope your post does not lead youngsters to run to nearest Mcdonalds and Burgerking since all of todays Christians are considered by some to be ahl-al-kitaab.

    attn. Muslims
today only Kosher (Jewish food) and zabiha by Muslims is permissable

This day are (all) things good and pure made lawful unto you. The food of the People of the Book is lawful unto you and yours is lawful unto them. (Lawful unto you in marriage) are (not only) chaste women who are believers, but chaste women among the People of the Book, revealed before your time,- when ye give them their dues, and desire chastity, not lewdness, nor secret liaisons if any one rejects faith, fruitless is his work, and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost (all spiritual good).

following is food belonging to christian ahl-e-kitaab

Forbidden to you are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than God; that which hath been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by being gored to death; that which hath been eaten by a wild animal; unless you are able to slaughter it; that which is sacrificed on stone; also is the division by raffling with arrows: that is impiety. This day have those who reject faith given up all hope of your religion: yet fear them not but fear me. This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed my favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion. But if any is forced by hunger, with no inclination to transgression, God is indeed Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

In order to keep from leading people astray in such an important matter it is best to lock the thread and avoid further replies.

Before posting Questions it is best to read the FAQ.
