    Hi.

I'm a young Catholic Woman, but have always been interested in Islam.

In the area I live, they are a few Muslim families, and one of the families have challenged me to wear a Hijab for the whole year. I love all the colours and designs that are available for the Hijabs.

I started the challenge on the 1st January 2018.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

a more beneficial challenge would have been to read the Quran. Few years ago, it was the #1 seller item on amazon for xmas.

So, you took on a challenge to wear Hijab for the entire year! Check in and let us know how its going? I'm assuming you live in a western country? The scarves are keeping you nice and cozy during our winter, eh?

Hi. Just wanted to let you know that I already have the Quran, as I read through last year.

    - - - Updated - - -

Although I'm a young Catholic woman, a few weeks each month, I help out a Methodist Church and this morning, I was at the Methodist Church where a few people moaned and told me to take the Hijab of. I didn't take it of as for two reasons, First I was challenged to wear a Hijab for the year and secondly it's up to me with the way I dress.
Both the Minister at the Methodist Church and the Catholic Church priest are very supportive of me wearing the Headscarves.
Also, around 40 years ago, Catholic woman had to wear Headscarves.

that's good to hear. and Yes wearing the veil is part of the bible as well. In medieval times, across the western world married women normally covered their hair outside the house.

1 Corinthians 11:5, says that “Every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonours her head, for that is one and the same as if her head were shaved.”

How has your personal experience been while wearing the hijab? by personal i mean internally how have you been feeling ?

hi. that's good to know. what state are you in and how is the atmosphere towards Islam there?

fun fact: elderly americans have confused hijabis in black with nuns. And why not, both are veiling as ordained by God.

I live in a small town called Cirencester in Gloucestershire in England. There are two or three Syrian families living in the town and most of them are happy with me wearing the Hijab. There is one Syrian family that say that me wearing the Hijab offends them as I'm not a Muslim.

Most people in my town don't have any problems with the Syrian families.

Around four years ago, I originally planned to become a Methodist Lay Preacher and spoke to the Minister at my local Methodist Church. He asked me to first study the different religions and to prepare a talk on two different religions. I choose Catholic and Islam for the talks, and that's why I'm interested in Islam.

During the last two years, Syrian families come to Cirencester and I loved seeing the different colours and designs of the Hijab and as I knew that around 40 years ago, Catholic woman had to wear a Headscarf in church, I wondered what it would be like.
When the Syrians first arrived, an International Café was set up for the Syrians to meet and make friends with the town residents. Just before Christmas last year, one of the Syrian families challenged me to wear Hijab for the whole year.

While reading the Quran, I thought a lot of it is similar, but with a few differences for example Jesus is a prophet in Islam where in the Christian faith, he is the Son of God.

In both faiths, we say Peace be with you or Peace be upon you.

Around ten minutes ago, I received an email challenging me to learn Arabic with online technology, like my Mobile Phone v(Cell phone), which I'm starting tomorrow.

    Assalamu alaykum warahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!
I'm a new convert to Islam and I've been wearing hijab for a couple of months, so it is interesting for me to know that it makes you feel closer to God as well! I appreciate the fact that you are so open minded! I believe that if we ask God to guide us to the truth He will make sure that we are guided. I respect you a lot and as it is natural, I wish for you to be guided to what I believe to be true! I wish you all the best in this world and in the hereafter, may Allah protect you in this year and make you feel even closer to Him!

If you are curious to find out new informations about Islam, don't hesitate to ask. It's always good to know, even if it is just for culture purposes.

Thank you for sharing all that. Given your experience and education of other faiths, do you still want to become a preacher or do you feel you may have other options now? (btw, i'll ask the same question in 6months to see if you feel differently).

It's great you are taking all these initiatives and challenges. I just hope you are not the type to take on a challenge just because someone issued a challenge. People are taking tide challenges here in the US and are ending up in the ER (emergency room).

Currently,, I'm happy being Catholic and I'm not interested in becoming a preacher any more. The reason I receive challenges is because I ask for them as I love to be challenged and I make sure that when I accept an challenge, that I won't get hurt.

Also the reason that I'm open minded is that in both the Catholic Faith and in Islam, there is always more to learn.
