You’ve taken on Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis, even trekking under the light of the moon to see the sun rise over the peaks. But now we invite you to join us as we embark on our most intensive challenge to date - climbing Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-Ghent in under 12 hours - all in solidarity with the 21st Century mothers enduring a struggle similar to Hajar, alone, abandoned, frightened, frantically seeking aid for her child whilst relying on Allah alone. The blessed days of Hajj are soon to be upon us once more. It is during these days that Muslims from all over the world converge on Makkah and its surrounding areas to re-enact the story of one of the most blessed households in the history of the world, that of the Prophet Ibrahim (as).

Of the many sacrifices made by Ibrahim (as) throughout his life was leaving his wife Hajar and his infant son Ismail alone in the empty barren desert of Makkah with not a living soul for miles. Upon the command of Allah, Ibrahim (as) left them with nothing more than a bag full of dates, a waterskin and unfathomable trust in their Lord. We can only imagine what went through the mind of Hajar as she sat with her baby in the scorching desert sands alone in eerie silence not knowing what was to be their fate, how they would survive and how she would raise her child. It was not long before the water ran out and baby Ismail began to become weak with thirst. With not a drop of water in sight and her infant’s cries echoing in her ears, Hajar began climbing the hills of Safa and Marwa repeatedly, desperately searching for anyone who could help. Due to her sincerity and her faith and most of all, her trust in the promise of Allah, Jibreel (as) descended from the Heavens to dig the well of zam-zam which continues to flow and quench the thirst of pilgrims to this day.

Those fortunate enough to travel to Makkah this year will literally follow in the footsteps of Hajar, the wife of Prophet Ibrahim (as) when they perform the Sa'ee between Safa and Marwa. Yet, there are dozens of women in the UK who follow in those same footsteps every day of the year. These women and their children, often foreigners in a strange land, are all alone with their husbands detained for being labelled threats to national security, a label from which Ibrahim (as) was not even spared. Like Hajar, these vulnerable women have only Allah to place their trust in as they seek to survive the desperate situation they have been placed in.

With each ascent and descent in the spectacular Yorkshire Dales, you will recall the struggle of Hajar, years ago being left alone with her child in the valley of Makkah, running between the mountains of Safa and Marwah, desperately seeking relief; knowing that every step you take and every pound you raise will go towards these resilient and inspirational women who are following in the footsteps of Hajar centuries on
