Salam. Good work but There is an error. Fatih Sultan Mehmed, and his father, was not a Khalifah.

According to a Turkish university study that I had read, Mehmet did called to be 'caliph' in his time . But this was at a time when many claimed to be caliph, including the sultan in my own country at the time.

    Here it is:

The real legal issue for the Ottomans was the problem of the caliph’s genealogy. Moreover, according tomany historical sources, Ottoman sultans used the titleCaliph both before—at least since Murad II (1421–1451)—and after Selim I.11 However, starting fromSelim I, they also used the title of Great Caliph (Halife-i Uzma) in official documents, and asked in theirletters to other Muslims rulers that they be recognizedas the true caliphs of the Muslim world in an attemptto revive the political power of the caliphate.12 Furthermore, the argument that Ottoman sultans claimedthis title only when the Empire was weak13 is alsocontradicted by historical evidence. For example, thepowerful sultan Mehmed II (1451–1481) was referredto as “Caliph” by contemporary sources; similarly, Sü-leyman I (1520–1566), in whose reign the OttomanEmpire was at the peak of its military and politicalpower, was one of the sultans who most frequentlyused this title.14 In fact, in his letters to less powerfulrulers he demanded that his caliphate be recognizedby them.

The video is ironical because Mehmet's mother was a Slavic christian. I don't know if she converted or not, but doesn't change the irony.

Süleyman was indeed the Caliph. The Caliphate was brought to the Ottoman by his father Selim. However during Mehmed’s reign it wa still the Abbasids under the Memluk sultanate. Mehmed thought that the Ottomans had more right to keep the title considering it was a more powerful state than the Memluk and they were a mujahid state who were continously making jihad with Christian states. Also he became the conquerer commander of Istanbul that was promised in the Hadith. But this was never a widely accepted and used official title for him.

But “most probably” he was planning to invade the Memluk to take the title when he assembled and marched the army in 1481. They started from Üsküdar but when they just came to Kocaeli he suddenly got sick and died. Many think he was poisened.

No irony really. The wast majority of the Ottoman sultans’ mothers were European origin ex-christians.

There are arguments that he wanted to invade Italy and Rome from his frontier base in Otranto, which if he could would probably make him replace Khalid bin walid (Ra) as the most successful general in Islamic history. Other sources say he was going to invade Poland.

But you are right he was poisoned, funded by Venetian and Genoese money, they apparantly paid 20,000 ducats to get him poisoned. When he died, there were celebrations in churches all across Europe.

Well it's a bit hard for me to believe that a woman who converted probably 10 years ago in a harem no less be so zealous about conquest. But maybe those were different times.

We dont know who actually poisened him, either one side or the other side but its not likely for him to go somewhere in the west considering the direction of the march. If you look at the map of Turkey you will see that Kocaeli is on the east of İstanbul, not the west. The army was being gathered in Edirne which is on the west of İstanbul in all the campaigns against west. He was planning to invade somewhere in the east. Maybe he firstly wanted the title of Caliph by taking Cairo then conquer Rome with this title. Whatever it was, it remained a unknown as he died along with his secret.

Well you make a point, because Ottoman-Mamluk hostilities took off after Mamluks hosted Cem Sultan, I couldn't point to any valid reason why Mehmet II would attack them, I mean don't the Sultans need an official Fatwa from the Shaykh-ul-Islam before declaring war? And at that time Mamluks weren't conspiring with Spain, Persia either like they did when Selim was the ruler.

Re: Child Who FulFilled Her Mother's Wish And Became Muhammad Al Fateh

Cem Sutan issue is after Mehmed. Cem was Mehmed's younger son. There was already a surging tension between the Ottomans and Mamluks in the second half of the 15th cent. Probably these two were the most powerful military forces of the late 15th cent Islamic world and it is quite possible this brought jealousity along with. There were four other small Turkish states (Karamanids, Ramazanids, Dulkadirids and Akkoyunids) between these two and the Ottomans were living problem with either one of them frequently and sometimes the Mamluks were using these tensions to gain power. It was a political game..and no. No sultan needed an official fatwa for anything. Sultans were absolute rulers. They usually asked Shakhul Islams questions for difficult issues but when it comes to their own politics, the sultans did not ask anyone anything and no one could question their decisions. In fact the history of Islam is full of several wars took between Muslim states. Especially, unfortunately, we Turks fought each other a lot. It is said that seven dervishes can sit on a carpet but two sultans cannot rule in one world.

I am fairly certain they needed fatwas, although it was a formality not that any of the Shaykhs ever intervened. I think I read the fatwa that Selim acquired before culling 40,000 Alevi Qizilbashis and declaring the war on Safavids.

One of the Sultans (I forgot which one) also had acquired a fatwa to remove the Yazidis, but was distracted by a new war by Russia.

One of the famous ones which I remember, is the fatwa that Sultan Mahmud II asked for permission to purge the Greek population in Istanbul during the Greek uprising. The Orthodox Patriarch begged the Shaykh-ul-islam not to allow it, so he refused. And was jailed in Cyprus.

Another important event I remember. The Ismaili Hurufiya sect had come to Sultan Mehmet to allow them to teach their religion in the empire. When they Shaykh-al-Islam heard of it, they asked for an audience with the Ismaili Hurufiya. During the meeting, the shaykh burst out saying they were heretics. And immediately implored Sultan Mehmet to ban them, which Sultan Mehmet accepted and banned them.
