I know that there are many douas for forgiveness and repentance. Does anybody know any douas for Allah to erase your sins, as if they never happened?

    Re: Dua for erasing sins

I do not know of any specific Du'as for repentance. But I also do not see any need for such. Sincere repentance from one's heart and a genuine promise to not repeat such sins and make restitution for any damages caused by our sins Just may be the best Du'as.

Sometimes our own sincere words and genuine asking for forgiveness is the best way.

We can not earn, buy steal or even deserve Allaah(swt)'s mercy, but We can have faith in Allaah(swt)'s pure justice, His willingness to forgive and his infinite mercy.

If you want to make repentence, ask Allah from your heart sincerely to forgive you and part of repentence is feeling regret, you must make sure you have the intention to never return to the sin. I frequently ask Allah to change the evil I have done into good, and good deeds erase bad deeds so do lots of good deeds to wipe out your bad deeds. But you must make repentence also.

    JAK, very insightful.

But what if there isn't a way to make restitution?

JAK. Yes, of course repentance is the first step. Doing good deeds should follow, I think. I also ask that Allah change my bad deeds into good deeds.

Very often there is no way to make restitution in this life time. In that case we do only what we can do and make sacrifices as partial restitution such as increasing our giving to charity, spending more time in prayer, trying to do something for the relatives of those we owe restitution to. Always make sincere efforts to look for a way to make restitution and never give up searching for a way to do so. Know you owe a great debt and ask Allaah(swt) to accept your good deeds as an effort to make restitution. Ask the one you owe restitution to to forgive you. Forgive those who wrong you and pray the one you owe will one day forgive you.

    Re: Dua for erasing sins

    Assalamualaikum

As humans we all commit sins no matter how hard we try to avoid them because were created to be imperfect. Engaging in evil deeds decreases our Iman. Actions like lying, cheating and stealing, to name only a few, take a toll on the human heart and soul which makes us more susceptible to being lead astray from the Path of Allah. It is important for us to reflect upon our deeds and weed out the ones that are contrary to the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (S). Allah has gifted us with an innate sense of justice and the ability to reason and make sound judgements. Our fitrah (natural disposition) necessitates that we all know when we are committing a sin. And if we don't know, we certainly have a bevy of resources to find out from!

    • Conditions for the acceptance of repentance

The word tauba which is rendered as repentance in English, is not a simple term as most people believe. It is very rich in meaning and implication, and is not simply a word of mouth after which the sinner continues in his sins. Says Allah, Glorified be He: "Seek forgiveness of your Lord and then turn to Him in repentance." (Hud: 3). Do you notice how turning to the Lord in repentance has been added to the search for His forgiveness?

It is quite in keeping with its importance, therefore, that repentance should have, as the scholars have stated, conditions attached to it for its acceptance.

    They are as follows:

    • First: Giving up of the sin itself.
    • Second: Remorse over what has been committed.
    • Third: A resolve not to repeat it, and, Fourth: Compensating those who have been wronged or obtaining their forgiveness.

    Re: Dua for erasing sins

Here is a du'aa that you could use, sister. I hope it helps.

Shaddad ibn Aws narrated that the Prophet (saws) said; "the most superior request for forgiveness is to say:

'Allaahmma anta rabbee laa elaaha illaa ant. Anta khalaqtanee wa ana 'abduka wa ana 'alaa 'ahdika wa wa'dika mastata't. A'oothu bika min sharri ma sana't. Aboo'u laka bi ni'matika alayya wa aboo'u laka bi thambee. Faghfir lee. Fa innahoo laa yaghfiruth-thunooba illaa ant.'

[O Allah, You are my Lord. There is no god besides You. You created me and I am Your servant, following your covenant and [my] promise to you as much as I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil that I have done. Before You I acknowledge Your blessings bestowed upon me and I confess my sins to You. So forgive me, for surely no one can forgive sins except You.]

The Prophet (saws) then added, 'anyone who says this during the day, firmly believing in it, and dies before the evening; or says it in the evening, firmly believing in it, and dies before the following morning, will be among the people of paradise.' "

It is pointless to watch other people's houses crumbling when our own house is in need of repair and attention.

In addition, sister needtorepent, I will make du'aa for you and ask Allah to forgive you. He is the All-Hearing and responds to the du'aa made for his absent brother faster than the du'aa he makes for himself.

    Re: Dua for erasing sins

Here is another powerful du'a. I was blown away by how comprehensive and beautiful it is. I hope it will be of great benefit to whosoever uses it.

O Allah, I seek Your forgiveness for every sin that my body, empowered by the good health that You had granted, was able to commit; every sin that came within the reaches of my power only due to the grace of Your bounties; every sin to which my hand, nourished by Your ample sustenance, extended. And while sinning, I hid myself behind Your veil from the people; and when fearing You, while engrossed in my sin, I relied on Your assurance of safety and forgiveness; and I took refuge in You, with Your clemency, not to smite me, and I depended on You, with Your noble countenance and pardon, to forgive me.

Allahumma inni astaghfiruka li kulli dhambin qawiya ‘alayhi badani bi ‘afiyatik(a), wa nalat-hu qudrati bi fadli ni’matik(a), wa ‘mbasatat ilayhi yadi bi si‘ati rizqik(a), wa ‘htajabtu ‘ani n-nasi bi sitrik)a), wa ttakaltu fihi ‘inda khawfi minka ‘ala amanik(a), wa wathiqtu min satwatika ‘alayya fihi bi hilmik(a), wa ‘awwaltu fihi ‘ala karami wajhika wa ‘afwik)a). Fa salli ya Rabbi wa sallim wa barik ‘ala Sayyidina Muhammad(in), wa ‘ala ali Sayyidina Muhammad(in), wa ghfirhu li ya Khayra ‘l-ghafirin(a).

JAK for taking the time to reply. Let's say the person you owe restitution to is a non-Muslim, and that they are currently deceased. Would praying for this person's non-Muslim relatives' guidance be a form of restitution. Let's say I can't be in contact with this person's relatives for whatever reason, therefore I cannot really help them other than praying for their guidance. Would this be sufficient?

Also, if you can't ask the one you owe restitution to forgive you because they are no longer alive, what can you do other than pray for their family's guidance? Now if the person was a Muslim, we could probably do good deeds on their behalf maybe or maybe pray for Allah to have mercy on their soul and for Allah to forgive their sins. But if the person is non-Muslim, what's one to do?

I'm sorry that this is so complicated.

No, sis. It's from the book 70 Prayers of Forgiveness, compiled by Allama Qutb Al-Din Al-Hanafi from Hasan Al-Basri. There's even an audio link for these du'as. http://www.whitethreadpress.com/publ...ness_audio.htm

Here's the link to the site where I had got it from. http://www.7cgen.com/index.php?showtopic=43211

I think it's pretty awesome to have 70 prayers of forgiveness to choose from....among them, there are also ayas from the Qur'an.
