    A Blessing or Punishment?

    Sometimes, a sickness, disease, etc. comes in the form of a blessing and sometimes in the form of an Azaab (punishment). For a Mu’min, it is a blessing and mercy if it causes him to turn towards Allah Ta’ala.I will conclude with an incident that occurred a few years ago. I went to visit a person who was suffering from cancer. On entering his room, I found him surrounded by 3 television sets – one to his right, one to his left and one in front of him. This was, indeed, very surprising … a sick person in extreme pain who could well be in his last moments, in such a situation.On inquiry, his relatives explained, that due to his being confined to bed, it became necessary to turn him in these 3 positions; sometimes left, sometimes right, otherwise flat on his back. The 3 sets were placed in such a manner so that he would not miss any part of the program being watched.If in that sickness, which was meant to have brought us to the door of Allah Ta’ala, we continue to indulge in sins and more so, then who do we blame for the problems which we thereafter have to face?May Allah Ta’ala protect us all from loosing trust and faith in Him.– (Tafweez by Hazrat Mawlana Shah Hakeem Muhammad Akhtar Sahib (RA)

    Wow. That's an awesome story.

    There is a man who lives in our street who was also told he had Cancer and needed chemotherapy. He told the GP he wanted to go to Umrah first which is where he went. He came back and the Cancer had cleared up.

    Greetings and peace be with you hisnameiszzz;

    I have a similar story, it is awesome that our God seems to cross religious borders.

    A few years ago, I had some tests done for cancer, about a month after the doctor phoned to say he urgently wanted to see me, it was non Hodgkins Lymphoma, our best friend had this cancer, and three months after, she died. After the initial shock of knowing I had been given a possible death sentence, I prayed for the wisdom peace and perseverance to do God’s will, regardless as to whether the cancer would prove to be a death sentence or just an inconvenience. I can only say that from the moment of making this prayer, I experienced profound times of peace and the thought of cancer has never troubled me at all. The journey with cancer is fraught with waiting a month or two for tests, followed by a period of waiting for results. Then the prayer has to turn to thanks, for the profound sense of peace that overcomes all our worries.

    I could not imagine being able to live in peace with this knowledge and without a faith

    I have never once prayed for healing, at the age of 62, the prayer for healing seemed too complicated to me. We all die at some point, and I just accept this. We pray to an awesome God.

    In the spirit of praying to 'One God'

    Greetings and peace be with you hisnameiszzz;

    It is within your power to do the same, we face many challenges in life that seem beyond our control. The cancer issue for me was too complex, if it was my time to die, and I prayed for healing, there would be no guarantees my prayers would be answered. Millions of people die from cancer, many of them would have prayed for healing, and still die.

    In many ways it would have made total sense for me to pray for healing, because about twenty years before I had my cancer, I witnessed what I describe as a miracle.

    I watched my mum suffer with multiple sclerosis for around twenty years. She could not move her arms or legs for about ten years, everything had to be done for her. She said she wanted to die.

    She went into a coma and was rushed to hospital, her breathing was a horrible gurgling sound, the doctors said she had days to live and there was nothing they could do. My mum was brought up a Catholic and though none of us went to church at the time, we thought we should call a priest, it was just going through the motions for us. As the priest prayed, her breathing changed from a horrible gurgle to a more relaxed state, minutes after the priest left my mum came round; and she lived for ano0ther eleven years.

    Later she told us she was not ready to die at the time, despite all her suffering. Where the doctors failed to help her, I believe that God did through the priest.

    The outcome was both a blessing and a curse, as she was still paralysed from the neck down. But I looked at my mum over all those years of suffering, and she is the strongest and kindest person that I shall ever meet.

    I have come to understand late in life, that there are more important things than good health.

    In the spirit of praying to One God,

    Eric
