Is it permissible to joke about people without saying their name? There was a speaker who was recounting an awkward encounter with someone. Also, he made jokes about people (again, by not saying names) who flaunt their wealth by making a show of having a designer bag etc.
Are these kinds of jokes permissible?
Jokes at the expense at others are not permissible. It is better to joke about light matters that do not hurt any one feelings. If you know that this joke is going to offend someone then do not joke about it.
