Welcome! And the next step! (OP)

Welcome to the new section dedicated to this project insha Allaah.

For those who are just hearing of this, then this is the thread you should read first:
    LI's Online Qur'an Memorization Initiative

Alhamdullilah, there has been a very enthusiastic response to the announcement of this initiative and as promised, this is the next step. We need to figure out how many people will be in each level.

Now, before going on. We very much emphasize that if you have not memorized Juz 'Amma, that you please get into the Juz 'Amma level. Starting off memorization with Juz 'Amma is going to be very helpful for these reasons:
    1) Short ayaat and short surahs. When we start memorizing Qur'an, our minds are not ready to intake a lot of new information. Starting with Juz 'Amma enables your mind to get ready to memorize.

    2) You will see yourself progress. The surahs are short, so you will notice progress and this will keep you motivated.

    3) These are surahs that are the most commonly recited.
What is going to be done is the following - remember we said that there will be 3 levels? Level One for Juz 'Amma, Level Two for Juz Tabarak, and Level Three for other Suwar?

All we ask for you to do in this thread is the following - in a post please:

    1) Write which Level you want to join. Again, if you have not done Juz 'Amma, we strongly recommend you join Level 1 - Juz 'Amma.

    2) Tell us how many ayaat you think you can memorize per day. Even if it is just 1 ayat, nothing at all wrong with that. If you can do more, let us know.

    3) If you are opt for Level 3, then please let us know in your post which Surah you are interested in memorizing.*

    * Once we complete this step, we will choose the surah based off of poll insha Allaah.

Re: Welcome! And the next step!

Just to publicize what I want...
    Id like to do
    surah al baqarah
and start with about 4-5 ayahs per day since they are short in the beginning and as they get longer maybe 2-3 depending on the length. InshaAllah if the number of ayahs go up or down it will just be an encouragement to memorize more and spend more time with the Quran so I don't mind.

Also guys lets just be positive and nice to each otherrr. Idk about other people but im quite ready to take this seriously and get down to business this is like a dream come true!

Also brother eHafiz that was an amazing article! Not only an encouragement but so true! MashaAllah some kids are so lucky their parents more emphasis on Islam then education..cuz as a kid I REALLY wanted to memorize quran and do an islamic course after high school but my parents aren't allowing it cuz I gottaa bc a doc  so alhamdulilah for this opportunity Allah has given us all! We should all def take advantage of it! may Allah reward everyone who has a hand in this.

Agreed. Besides, why condemn good efforts? Every letter has it's benefits, and that letter could be the ticket to Jannah.

And in regards to the program, it's only to organize and plan your work for you. It's not intended to completely take you as a student, right?

Insha'Allah, I don't see where this can go wrong.

Re: Welcome! And the next step!

To some extent, what T.I.A. is saying might come true because Hifdh isn't a small affair. It takes years and all this time shaytaan will be on the prowl to get you off it and as its online, some people may just give up right in the middle. Its a different case when you actually hire a Hafidh or go to some Dar-ul-uloom because even if you don't feel like completing Hifdh you just have to because of external pressures. And you don't come online everyday.

I also agree that those who really want to do it will make all efforts to keep up with the flow but you know its learning in a virtual world.
    Welcome! And the next step!

If Allah helps you, none can overcome you; and if He forsakes you, who is there after Him that can help you? And in Allah (Alone) let believers put their trust.
    Surah Ale Imran : 160

It was narrated that Anas ibn Maalik (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:
The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) climbed up Uhud, accompanied by Abu Bakr, ‘Umar and ‘Uthmaan, and the mountain shook with them. He struck it with his foot and said: “Stand firm, O Uhud, for there is no one on you but a Prophet or a Siddeeq or two martyrs.”
    Narrated by al-Bukhaari (3483)

Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Taala) does not inspire seeking forgiveness in a slave whom he wishes to punish.

Re: Welcome! And the next step!

I think some people will do it sincerely, InshaAllah i will. some people wont, some will pretend or something I dont know. But if even one person benefits, its worth the efforts. similarly people can pay for teachers to teach Quraan, some kids learn some not, some act on it, some not. Alot of people nowadays dont make an efort but tis their personal choice, there will always be initiatives in the right direction, InshaAllah.

I think I needed just a push inshaAllah I would like to do it even before the programme starts, on my own, Inshaallah.

Re: Welcome! And the next step!

The important bit that people seem to be missing is that, for people like myself or sis hopeful, those who are sincere, it is successful for them InshaAllah, regardless of how successful it is on a forum. So to say it won't work is not fair and not right. When you exert negativity, of course you won't see positivity. We should always say InshaAllah, not it won't work...Allahu Mustaan. You're a failure when you give up trying...you don't gain success that way. The state of our Ummah is as it is because people are so negative and don't bother trying no matter how hard. Some things require more effort.

At the moment we don't have a level for Juz 27. Maybe you can join Level 2 - Juz Tabarak or Level -3 which is Assorted Surahs?

So far we have Surah Baqarah and Surah Fatir up - you can put out a suggestion if you want as well. In the end, we'll vote between all the suggestions and proceed with the one that is favored insha Allaah. That way everyone has a say and the surah is chosen with fairness bi idhnillah.

Re: Welcome! And the next step!

Better than a Doctorate Degree from Harvard

If you see anyone drinking tea, and you ask him what he is drinking, he will tell you "tea." There is sugar in the tea, but he will not mention the sugar, no one ever says he is drinking tea-and-sugar. No doubt the sweetness of the sugar fills the tea, but the person drinks and says nothing about it.

The long standing tradition of Qur'anic memorization is analogous to the sugar, doing its work in secret. In a child who embarks on the journey of memorizing Qur'an we see that the hands, nose, ears, eyes, and tongue are dynamic, but no one can see what the soul is accomplishing. Their ears come across as listening, and their tongues seems to be talking. But no matter what it may seem to be, it is not only the tongue that talks. And in spite of form, it is not only the ears that hear. That which speaks and hears is the invisible soul within. The effect of the long standing tradition of Qur'anic memorization on a child is similarly invisible.

And this is what happens to a child when he memorizes the words of Allah, the Exalted. We might think they are just memorizing words. But in actuality, every letter they say, every sound they make, makes an imprint in their hearts and minds which enables them to take the imitated step of converting his oral recognition of Qur'anic language into a physical act.

The best education we can give our children is the memorization of the Holy Qur'an. As Rasulullah (saw) said: "No group of people gathers in one of the houses of Allah to recite the Book of Allah and study it together, but tranquility descends upon them, the angels surround them, mercy comes down upon them, and Allah mentions them to those who are with Him." (Muslim).

The first group of students I ever taught was a group of 9 year-olds in a Hafidh Program in 1998. I was merely their English teacher. As each day passed by, I saw little beings change from being passive to being connected. I witnessed what seemed at the time insignificant moments of sharing between classmates evolve into brotherhood. I saw the honor of one being defended by all, and I saw the grief of a few being shared by many. They finished the school year with highest class percentage of 98% in all subjects, and to this day continue to excel academically. This is rare to find in America today. There was nothing magical in it. They were revolutionized because they entrusted their time with Allah, by the memorization of the Holy Qur'an, the words of Allah, the Exalted.

The vessels for preservation of Islam are in our children's hearts. Allah says:

"Nay, but they, the clear ayat, are preserved in the breasts of those who have been given knowledge…" [Qur'an 29:49]

It is our duty to plant these seeds in our children for we must equip them for what lay ahead of them. There is no better time to preserve our heritage than today, in these critical times.

As there are numerous full-time schools sprouting in the west, it is time that we as parents invest our children's time memorizing the Qur'an and join the ranks of thousands who seek to earn the pleasure of Allah (azza wajal) and preserve the very foundation of our Islamic identity. Yes! It's better than a doctorate degree from Harvard as we are reminded by the words of the Prophet (saw) about its reward:

Buraydah (r) said: "I was sitting with the Prophet (saw) and I heard him say: ..The Qur'an will meet its companion on the Day of Resurrection when his grave is opened for him, looking like a pale man, and it will say to him, 'Do you know who I am?' He will say, I do not know you.' It will say to him, 'Do you know who I am?' He will say, I do not know you.' It will say, 'I am your companion the Qur'an, who made you thirsty on hot days and kept you awake at night. Every merchant will benefit from his trade, and today you will benefit too.' He will be given power in his right hand and immortality in his left, and on his head will be placed a crown of dignity. His parents will be given two garments the like of which could never be made by the people of this world and they will say, 'How did we earn these?' It will be said, 'Because your child learned the Qur'an.' Then it will be said to him, 'Read and go up through the levels and rooms of Paradise. He will keep on ascending as long as he reads or recites.'" (Ahmad).
