confused about the Japanese Hiragana ):

    Report bad ads?

I am currently learning the Japanese hiragana alphabet but I am confused about some letters, hope someone can help me to clarify the confusion:

there is 2 ji 's in the alphabet
    the first one is :じ
the second one is : ぢ
what is the difference between those two and when we can use them?

    thanks in advance............

Re: confused about the Japanese Hiragana ):

    Salam, Konnichiwa...

    the difference between - じ - and - ぢ - is in the pronunciation.

and the use, is a matter of vocabulary, one's must learn the words and expressions to see the difference.

they can be compared to the sounds:

sh (shall, sugar, shift) and ch (teacher, pinch, lunch)

じ sounds like sh by softening " j " (not always, but to understand its sound...)

    try to pronounce

    SHALL with J : JALL (soften j)

    Sugar with J : Jugar

    Shift with J : Jift

    and

ぢ may sound like ch (for example: ぢ sounds like ch in teacher)

its' not easy to explain it by writing.

if you can find some audio media about it, I think it would help.

yoi ichi nichi wo (nice day)

Re: confused about the Japanese Hiragana ):

    Salam,

    Douitashima****e,
    you're welcome,

iie, watashi wa nihonjin dewa nai,
    no, I'm not Japanese,

watashi wa Algeria-jin desu, anata ka,
    I'm Algerian, and you ?

    finally,

    nihongo, chiisa chiisa sukoshi deskimasu,
I can use Japanese a little little bit,

    - if I can give a piece of advice it would be about the workflow (the way/organization/ Steps in studying Japanese)

    1. to learn Hiragana, Katakana

    2. to understand the sentence structure in Japanese
    (subject - object - verb)

    anata wa nihongo wo hanashimasu
    you japanese speak

    you speak japanese

    3. to learn a little about particles (wa, ga, wo, ni, e, no, de, yo, zo, ne, etc...)

    4. to learn about verbs (making the tenses, present/past)

    5. to learn vocabulary (this could be at meantime with other steps...)

    6. Kanji, if you have the possibility to learn Kanji also it would be great, cause Japanese is based on Kanji... (you can do it alone, I think it would take a long time, so if there is any language school around you, I think it would be the best, else if you can get maybe a learning DVD, but you have to use it and be serious, else it would be a wasted money)

I didn't practice nihongo since a while... but if the bit of info I gave helped you it's nice.

older brother in japanese : nii-san
(so, maybe it's not right to call me nii san, if it's you who is older...)

    Yoi ichi nichi wo.

    PS:

    - I don't don't where are you from...
    - I don't know why you want to learn Japanese...
    - I don't know what you think about Japan and Japanese people

    but...

If you like Anime and Manga, don't forget that these are virtual and just imagination (in addition, a lot of things in anime are far of the way of Islam)

According to internet, it seems that there are not a lot of Japanese muslims, but seems that there are...
Most of Muslims living in Japan are not Japanese, they are if I remember more, Turkish, Iraqis...
(there are some mosques also there, and they have a Islamic Center in Tokyo, interesting...)

What I want to say is if you haven't been in contact with Japan or Japanese people, don't expect a lot of nice things...

I say this just in case... to avoid you a big, deep and painful disappointment...

Re: confused about the Japanese Hiragana ):

    Just to correct my mistake, about - じ - and - ぢ - again:

    -----------------------------------------------

し (SHI): sound like sh in shall, sugar

ち (TCHI): sounds like ch in teacher, much

    -----------------------------------------------

    じ (JI): sounds like sh by softening " j ", sugar with J : Jugar (soften j)

ぢ (DJI): sounds like J in Jump, Jungle

    -----------------------------------------------

    Gomen nasai : Sorry

actually I am interested in japanese culture and I plan to go there one time, I know that there is a few muslims there around 75,000 muslims and many of them are not japanese either, but from what I read in Japan they give more freedom to religions there.........I hope that is right.

    but...

If you like Anime and Manga, don't forget that these are virtual and just imagination (in addition, a lot of things in anime are far of the way of Islam)

I have a little interest on that but it is not why I wanna learn japanese, of course not every thing is right, but I only watch what is not offending Islam.

Thanks you sis for the links, and thank you brother for the information I had read some articles about Islam in Japan and even read some experiences for girls that convert to Islam and wear hijab there, but it is not so badly as you imagine (I read that the law there give more freedom to different religions -I hope thats right-)

anyways, I think I will get benefit from you guys -if you dont mind- in the near future in sha allah because I will re-start again learning after finishing my current exams.
just keep me in your duaa

Re: confused about the Japanese Hiragana ):

A very good day, I would like to encourage brothers and sisters spreading Da3wah to Japanese. I had met a very zealous Muslim Japanese in my university, he is very focus in performing ibadahs, his wife too embrace Islam together with his children.

The problem is Muslims had to master Japanese first in order to explain to them certain important things in Islam and about the beauty of Islam. I just finished my Japanese certificate in University, it is my minor but I am not fluent in it eventhough I can write and understand it.

Feeling shy to admit...but that is the reality that will happen if we are studying without conversing with real Japanese. My Japanese teacher here is not a Japanese but a Malaysian Chinese, she use English and Chinese as the medium and that is not right! She is using us as experiments for her thesis and her thesis is "How is the progress of Chinese students in learning Japanese".

In the end I just know how to write Kanji and basic Japanese scripts but do not know how to speak or conversing, too bad. Don't emphasize on grammar when you study although grammar is important, emphasize on vocabulary first, after you have got a vast amount of vocabulary only you go to grammar in depth.

Many native Japanese are interested about Islam, they had already practicing Islamic values although they are not Muslims such as respecting the environments and natural resources. In Islam those environments and natural resources are all the trust from Allah to His Khalifahs. Another thing is discipline in life, last time they are very disciplined people especially after post-American war.

The only problem of Japanese today is they do not have any obvious thing to depend on which is as solid as Islam when they face hardship in life. Many of their youngsters today had faced mental problems and committing suicide when they had not found the objective of this life. Islam is the most best thing above all to cure them and Muslims will be more powerful with the help of Allah S.W.T if Japanese revert to Islam.

May you be success in speaking Japanese, don't forget to be a Da3i or Da3iyah in Japan. Native Japanese too deserve the light of Islam as other people in this world.

Hope it's not too late to contribute to brothers and sisters:

Yes, you need about 1,500 Kanji before you can read articles in papers and books. But do not worry too much about the kanji, it is not important in spoken Japanese, as long as you know hiragana and katakana, that would be more than enough, unless you want to travel there in Japan, Kanji might be useful Romaji (Roman script) too helps in expanding vocabulary.

Actually I already can speak Chinese and I can write and read in Chinese. I know about 3,000 Kanji as it is the essential knowledge that we need in written Chinese. But that too is not helping since spoken Japanese does not depend on them. It is the confidence that you need beside practices in speaking it. Kanji is more to make you easy in figuring out the meaning of a certain Sino-Japanese words without checking dictionary. It is very good that you are interested in their culture, it is the first step to touch their heart and that is good for Da3wa purpose

I really hope brothers and sisters can help Japanese people, may they too get the light of Islam through Allah's guidance. Insya-Allah, it will be easy for you to learn it with efforts that you have accompanied with du3a

Re: confused about the Japanese Hiragana ):

I don't think there is any real difference anymore for the difference between じ and ぢ.

じ might be softer than ぢ. Usually ぢ isn't even used. lol

My real name should have a ジ (じ) in it, but I use ヂ (ぢ) for creative purposes.
