Make things easy - explanation of Hadith

    Assalamualaikum

“give glad tidings, and do not scare people away. make things easy, and do not make things difficult”

I understand that this is what the Prophet would say to the companions when sent on a mission. But was this all tasks or for dawah?

Also, was this meant to be an obligatory act and was this meant for every situation for Muslims?

The main reason I ask this because I make films and wrote stories and the way I make them is that they are harder to understand than most other films and you have to think harder to get a meaning from it. I aimed to challenge the viewer/reader. Would this be permissible?
Also, they contain subject matter that viewers may find upsetting which are also intended to challenge the viewer. Would this be permissible?
