    Salat Encouragement

    Report bad ads?

I am finding it hard to do Salah as of now. I just get silent and cant speak . I am finding it hard to make myself serious and do it without losing my voice or getting nervous. Some encouragement or advise would be helpful . It would be nice if you could help a brother out

    Re: Salat Encouragement

Salam brother, it was delightful to read you've converted to Islam

In regards to reading Salah, relax and take one step at a time. Try to block everything out and concentrate on praying to your Lord, remember all the time Allah is watching you. Try and pray with passion, from the heart. Open up, show some emotion and try and reach out to Allah. We are sinful beings and we ask Allah to forgive us .

Be mindful of Satan's whispers, he will always try and lead us to the wrong path but we must override those thoughts by remembering Allah.

    Re: Salat Encouragement

One thing I have done to make it easier for me to pray, is just write down the basic flow of each prayer, printed it out and read it. Having the paper there to read makes it easier for me to focus. I went with an english translation, instead of just trying to parrot the transliteration of the original Arabic, as I rather like knowing what i am saying. Now that I have it memorized, I am working on doing a translitation version so I can start memorising it that way. Eventually I will move to learning to read the actual Arabic script.

This probably take me a few years, but I am setting goals for myself.

I found various samples of Salat with and without translations online. I also watched the videos on youtube on how to perform the various prayers. These are nice as you can listen to the Arabic and 'read' the English meaning. Not all prayers will be identical as after the standard parts, different ayats of the Qur'an can be recited. Also, not all parts of the prayer are recited aloud.

I am not sure if this is the best way to learn the prayers but its the way that's working for me so far.

One step at a time bro don't burn yourself out!
The Quran was revealed in arabic because it's the best language to reveal the Quran in. To me it is much easier to memorise the arabic as it's flow is perfect, I would advise memorising it and then learning the meaning. But you can do whatever you feel is most comfortable.

Below is a video of "Al Fatiha" or "The Opening". The first chapter of the Quran, it is recited in every prayer. You might find it a little hard to pronounce the transliteration as I'm sure you are not used to reading arabic words transliterated in alphabet. If you want you can read and imitate at the same time so you might get an idea of the correct pronunciation.

There's a brother on youtube who is a convert and I remember when he first started he also had some issue with pronouncing the arabic. I think it differs with people, I've seen some able to pronounce it easily and some needing a bit more time.

Rest assured, we are judged by our intentions before our actions. Even if you make a mistake, God knows what is in your heart.

P.S The first line recited "I seek refuge with Allah from satan, the outcast" is a small prayer said before reciting any sura/chapter.

    Re: Salat Encouragement

Other people can advise you better practically, as they are not born Muslims. We (born Muslims) learn all of this by the time we are 8 years old. However I can give you spiritual advice.

In your spare time, read about Paradise, and your desire for it will increase. Or read about Hellfire, and your fear for it will increase. Either one or both of these things should motivate you to concentrate more when praying.

    Re: Salat Encouragement

My suggestion is that you should wright down what you are supposed to do and read off it it. Until then, just think about Allah. Speak slowly, and dont rush. Remember, Allah understands and you dont have to everything perfectly, just the best that you possibly can.

    Salaam
