Re: I fast but dont pray

Reverts don't necessarily need to pray from the beginning. Your body can handle the fast, but it can take years to develop the ability to pray 5 times per day as we were not raised in such an environment. First start with 1 prayer per day for 1st year, then 2 prayers per day in 2nd year, 3 prayers per day in 3rd year, 4 prayers per day in 4th year, 5 prayers per day after 5th year.

Fasting is not accepted if there is no prayer BUT in your case as you dont know its a totally different situation and Allah is all mercifull so as long as you are learning your prayer that should be sufficient enough for your fasts to be valid in sha Allah.

Do you know any part of the prayer or none at all ?

In sha Allah i can help you from there

    Brother this is terrible advice

Once someone takes the shahada, you must pray and fulfill the rights Allah has above you which is prayer fasting etc etc

Prayer is the most important act to a muslim as this seperates us from the non-believers, the most important thing a revert must 1st learn is how to pray, wudu and ghusl.

It is not acceptable to say that they may pray 1 time for a year and so on, there are no exceptions wether revert or born muslim, Allah commands that we must pray 5 times a day there is no ifs or buts with this at all

Our prayer is the 2nd pillar of our faith after the shahada, you should never downplay the importance of prayer EVER.
As soon as they take their shahada prayer becomes a fard upon them and they must learn however they can to pray and leaving it intentionally is a sin

NO you cant say it in english or any other language it must be in arabic as you will be doing this for the rest of your life. Im a revert myself dear sis and i know it seems very overwhelming totally new language but trust me of i could do it so can you, and i also helped my one of my revert friends who couldnt speak a word of arabic and had a very very English accent lol

I can write out everything you say in prayer for you in transliteration (which is written out how you say it)
If that would be of help to you ? and il send you some videos of the movements in prayer so you can understand better.
you can write these down on paper puttin it infront of you and read along following the movements as you pray

Where are you from dear sister are there no sisters in your area who could help you as it is easier to learn when someone teaches you in person.

Do you know how to do wudu ?
Do you know how to do ghusl ?

Brother she is not a 1year old and we are not talking about children here,if we was then no it is not fard upon a 1 year old or anyone who has not yet reached puberty, although there are hadeeths for parents to teach their children as young as possible of understanding maybe 6 or 7 (would be lucky to get a proper word out of a 1 year old lol)
But she is a woman over the age of puberty so prayer is a fard upon her.
a revert is classed as a new born baby in a sense of spirituality with their past slate being wiped clean, it doesnt give them leeway to not establish the 5 fard prayers which Allah commands all believers to do

“Recite [O Muhammad] what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish the Prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows that which you do."*[Quran 29: 45]

And when you have completed the prayer, remember Allah standing, sitting, or [lying] on your sides. But when you become secure, re-establish [regular] prayer. Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times."*[Quran 4:103]

    "Indeed, I am Allah. There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance." {20:14}

There are quite a few convert classes in Birmingham sister, please send me a PM and I'll let you know which ones are closest to you. or I can put you in touch with someone inshaAllah.
If you can get to a class, it's the best way as the other sisters will be in the same boat and it's always helpful to learn together.

    1. You must pray for any of your good deeds to be accepted. Please make prayers a priority to learn as it's one of the most important foundations of being a Muslim.

    2. You must pray in Arabic. I know you don't know how to speak Arabic but that's ok! Many Muslims do not speak Arabic. Write down the words to be said in English transliteration and read them from the paper until you are able to do it all on your own. Take 10-15 minutes a day trying to memorize those words and inshallah in no time you won't even need the paper anymore. One of the surahs you must memorize though is Al-fatiha because it's in every single prayer, so you can start out with that. Don't feel discouraged with not being able to pronounce all the words perfectly at first, you will get double rewards for putting in your efforts If there's a mosque near by, I also suggest attending prayers sometimes just so you can get the movements down and have a better understanding of how to perform your prayers.

    3. You must perform your 5 prayers daily. I know it may seem overwhelming, but the amazing thing about prayers is that it's picked up so quickly because they're essentially all the same. So the repetition of the movements will make you learn it very quickly if you stick to it.

I've posted the steps to prayer here:

format_quote Originally Posted by *charisma* View Post

There are 5 obligatory prayers in the day:

    1. Fajr (Done at Sunrise)
    2. Dhuhr (Done Early Afternoon)
    3. 'Asr (Done Late Afternoon)
    4. Maghrib (Done at Sundown)
    5. Isha (Done in Evening)

There are specific times at which these prayers have to be done because it depends on the location of the sun. Therefore, you can use islamicfinder.org to enter your location and find out the specific times the prayers should be done.

Essentially all the prayers are prayed similarly except the number of rakaat is what differs. A rakaa basically means how many courses of movements is to be done in a prayer.

So for example, Fajr requires 2 rakaat, dhuhr is 4, 'asr is 4, maghrib is 3, and isha is 4.

Before every prayer you have to be in a state of purity, so you have to perform wudhu (cleansing ritual/ablution) anytime you use the bathroom, pass gas, or come into contact with anything impure (such as urine). Ghusl (full body bath) is to be done after intercourse or if you're a female, after you complete your period/menses (you can't pray while you have your period/menses).

This is how wudhu is done:

You can use these youtube vids which highlight exactly how to do each movement for each prayer and what to say:

    Fajr

    Dhuhr

    Asr

    Maghrib

    Isha

Before making wudhu, ghusl, and salaah always remember to make the intention in your heart first.

If you memorize the following it will make it so much easier on you: Al Fatiha, Tashahhud, Salah ibraheemiya

And of course if its difficult for you to memorize everything, you can always write down the words on a paper and use it as you do the movements until you can recite without the paper. If you have any other questions (I know it can get overwhelming) feel free to ask!
Please if you have any specific questions, let us know. If you need me to make prayers more comprehensible then I don't mind breaking down the steps for you even further and writing out the things that you should memorize.

    I fast but dont pray

Yes totally agree. You should pray. Allahu Waclam if your fasts get accepted if you don't pray. But you need to make sure you pray as prayer is more important than fasting in the 5 pillars of Islam. So InshaAllah sister above has explained it very well. May Allah reward her for that. Please try and pray as soon as possible and engage in learning it. As it comes after Shahadah and is indeed the one most emphasis is based on. As being a Muslim is praying your salat 5 times that's what distinguishes us from non Muslims. If you don't pray it's recognised that we are Kaffir (non believer). That's just to demonstrate the importance of salat Sister. I hope this message finds you well. Wishing you the best!!

    Bismilah Ar-Rahman Ar-Raheem

Here is how to pray, if ANYONE needs any more details or doesnt understand please ask and i will do better to explain with more detail in sha Allah
Im posting it here so all of us may benefit and be a reminder incase we may forget to do something
(Just a note the rasing of the hands is suited to that of the prayer of a woman and for men you should raise your hands to your ears, and also for "ruku" a mans back must be striaght, a women only has to bend untill her hands touch her knees as this is more concealing)
(I also understand that due to different maghdabs during tashahud people do different things and with where to put hands during recitation, i would just like to point out that, this is for people to learn to pray in the quickest of manners and when they choose their own maghdab they will follow suit)

Btw sorry for all the mistakes LOL but i was really tired writing it out, at least it proves we all make mistakes

Re: I fast but dont pray

. best case scenario you would have someone to teach you but this is not always feasible. have a look at the vid i posted below. . when i was new to islam i just recited subhannallah thrice in each posture of the prayer untill i had the arabic duas memorised. so maybe you could do this untill you get up and running. sister just do your best and inshaallah you'll be ok
salah is super important in our deen but alhamdulilah it is a huge blessing on us, may Allah grant you the tawfiq to take advantage of this blessing

Muslimah_B, I am not sure about praying in another language. As far as I know, it has to be in Arabic, start to end.

    I fast but dont pray

As long as my heart does beat, I shall live, not lie
For when my heart does stop its beat, with truth, I die.
