Arrow Which of these Muslim first names should I choose? (OP)

    Assalam Alaykoum,

    I live in Western Europe.

I’m a (Sunni) Muslim convert, thus I wish to choose a Muslim first name for myself.

After a lot of research, I have narrowed down my list to the following eight first names.

    Adam
    Altair
    Ibrahim
    Khalid
    Musa
    Omar
    Yazid
    Yusuf

My surname (family name) is: Lambton.
My first name should fit well with my surname.

Please vote and tell me which first name you prefer.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if Yazid is all that good or popular, especially among us sunnis so I doubt you'd want it. I've also always really liked Musa and Yousuf.

Re: Which of these Muslim first names should I choose?

Why are you changing your first name? I became Muslim and I did not change my name, nor plan on changing my name. Your parents gave you that name. Unless your first name is something against Islam, why change it?

Re: Which of these Muslim first names should I choose?

^ maybe because he has a God given right to and wants to.

    Adam

    Ibrahim
    Khalid
    Musa
    Omar

    Yusuf

I'll tell you the images I get.

Al tair would usually be pronounced wrong.

Adam suits anyone, but may not indicate that you're a Muslim unless through physical appearance.
Would suit with thobe and beard, but not much chance of making it known if you plan on shaven face and western clothes - and then it would be a missed advertising and testimonial opportunity because it's dawah to let people automatically know that you're a Muslim.

Ibraheem - reminds me of a big forehead, wisdom, high intelligence, and someone who doesn't suffer fools well even if they're his parents - yet is mild and contemplative.

Khaalid - long hair, rough, a bit of a tan, doesn't talk a lot, not even a loud voice, just pulls out the sword when he decides there's no more dialogue.

Musa - a strong and short tempered man, a gentleman to women, likes to be in control, put in weak situations by God, does his best for God's sake despite the fact he'd rather throw people's oppression, pestering, murmuring, crap back at them and and be done with it all, is not neutral, takes sides - the one he believes is right, and hates the enemy with a passion.

'Umar - big, passionate, not afraid of making himself heard over others, likes to explain his position and public opinion and pragmatism are important. Hates the enemy with a passion.

Yazeed reminds me of greed and "twist" without the "oliver" - it means "more", the circles of the most famous (/infamous) Yazeed only came to Islam after Makkah was conquered so there were more negative variables involved in their Islam than in that of the the earlier migrants and helpers in Allah's cause.
Up until the conquest of Makkah they had been the leaders of enmity towards God and His messenger and the believers. There were many who obviously possessed more sense of justice, experience, and right to lead the Muslim nation. The most responsibility the Prophet usually gave such people was governorship over the tribes which they already governed during ignorance due to many pragmatic reasons.

    Read "more" here:
    https://islamqa.info/en/14007

Yusuf is very appealing and stirs positive feelings, a winner despite all the bleakness that he went through kind hearted, trusting in Allah's decree.
Though the name gets used by so many new Muslims that you might want a bit of diversity.
