How to get in the habit of prayer?

    Report bad ads?

I'm struggling with waking up in time for Fajr, and I've been lax in my daily prayers. Is there a way I can "train" myself to keep with the daily prayers? What if I'm driving during a prayer time, should I just wait and pray later?

Re: How to get in the habit of prayer?

you can set an alarm for each prayer as a reminder to stop and go pray. You'll have to change your mindset to thinking of praying like eating, you don't think if you should eat or not. you just do it when it's time. Think same with prayers.

Pray time has a time window to pray within. So if you are driving, you can pray after you get to your destination or pray before you start driving, depending on time window available.

yes we have good methods for this problem.

1.Don't Drink Water alot at night before sleeping, because when your Tummy Become full , your sleep is more than Not drinking.
2.If you Pray all of your Prayers On time and at the first time of Athan , Allah will raise you for Salat Fajr.
    3. Before your Night's sleeping , Read the Last Aya or verse of Surah Al-Kahf«18»

Re: How to get in the habit of prayer?

The Hukamaa (Wise Men) have said that if a person does something for 40 days continuously, it becomes a habit. Try to perform all of your daily Salaats on time for 40 days in a row, and thereafter it will become instinctive, In Shaa Allaah.

Never delay Salaah. Other things can be delayed, but Salaah is more important. Salaah has been described in the Hadeeth as being "`Imaad-ud-Deen" (the Pillar of the Deen). Whosoever safeguards that pillar has safeguarded his Deen and whosoever destroys that pillar has destroyed his Deen.

Re: How to get in the habit of prayer?

I tried the 40 days in a row several times, the hardest was fajr. I could not make it past a week on my first few attempts.

I decided to try during ramadan because I would wake up to eat so why not wait ? Then once you have got the first one in, the second, third prayer etc becomes a very good incentive. But if you missed the first one, it's easier to miss the rest.

So a month of doing the fajr prayer and then just maintain it... only now, you are waking up later (i.e. not to eat) ha ha so much more manageable.

It's more easy to Read the Last Aya or verse of Surah Kahf

    Allah raised you inshallah

@muslimahzoya Try waking up for tahajjud... you may never even get up for tahajjud but if you have that intention you'd surely get up for fajr

It is mainly a bad schedule that make salah more difficult. Go to bed early and I guarantee you, you'll be able to get up early.

Bedtime is right after isha and wake time is before fajr, not at fajr routine is something that takes effort to keep. Yes, things can become habits, but it still takes a certain mindset to continue it. Once you do it long enough it becomes part of you and you'll feel like something is missing if you don't do it. You'll still have to nudge yourself to be consistent, but it is part of life.

How can one do this with a busy schedule? For example, I study and work - so I'm usually at university 8am-1pm, work 1pm-8pm, and studying 8pm-midnight. I'm struggling a lot with waking up for fajr because my sleep doesn't complete and I end up being miserable and tired the whole day, very unproductive.

Re: How to get in the habit of prayer?

You'll have to prioritize and change your lifestyle. It is better for you to wake up at 4AM, pray tahajood and then study until Fajr and a little bit afterwards than to stay up from 8PM until midnight.

We have been given guidance with time management. The prophet (saw) used to sleep right after Isha, wake for tahajood and he would nap after duhr. He led the ummah, cared for individuals and had multiple wives. No amount of schooling will surpass his responsibilities, so where there is a will there is a way.

You'll have to do away with distractions and keep socializing to a minimum.
