    Missing prayers due to work

    Report bad ads?

    Asalaamu Alaykum

Sometimes I have class or work during the time of a prayer so I miss it. I always make them up but am afraid I miss too many prayers each day. Likely 3 prayers!

Does it take me out of Islam by missing prayers even if I make them up?

Re: Missing prayers due to work

    Asalamu Alaikum,

If you mean salah at masjid in congregation (gamaah) then its ok to pray alone if you were busy and couldn't free yourself at the time of gamaah.
If you mean that you miss the time limit for the prayer until the next prayer comes, then try to spare 5 minutes and find a free room to pray in or even just in the corner of any room, you can pray anywhere, on grass, on the beach (pebbles or sand) just anywhere where there is no najasa (uncleanliness such as animal excretion) and it is preferred to pray somewhere dry to avoid any doubt of najasa.
One of the advantages of islam, is that you can pray almost anywhere so long as where you pray is clean and it is easier for men as they don't have to pray in a hidden place like women.

I remember days when I was at University when I could spare 5 minutes in between lectures to pray Asr prayer, as the lectures end at Maghrib prayer. I used to find an empty hall where I would pray with my friends as the masjid was too far to reach before the next lecture started. We would put a jacket or our notebooks to pray on as the hall wasn't carpeted.

Between each prayer and the one after it are several hours and each prayer must be performed within its time limit or else it would be Qadaa. You musn't leave prayers and pray them as Qadaa on purpose; Qadaa prayers can be only if you miss a prayer without meaning to e.g.
    - you slept and didn't hear the alarm clock
    - someone is threatening your life
    - you're unconscious

The importance of prayer reaches a degree that:
    - if you can't find water for ablution, you perform Tayamum (involves hitting your hands on dust e.g rock or sand or even pillow twice once wiping you hands and then wiping your face).
    - If you can't pray standing, due to illness, you pray sitting if you can't then lying down even to the point that if someone can't move (paralyzed) they can pray by moving their eyes.

    Peace

Asalaamu Alaikum brother it is very easy to pray at work or in class. When people are at work then why do they go to the toilet? Because they have to right? Sameway we HAVE to pray salaah no matter where we are there are no excuses to miss it at all. No workplace or educational institution will ever stop you from praying but most of the time you never even have to tell them anything because it does not take long at all.

When people go to the toilet at work or at school then they usually take 5 minutes or longer. So instead of going to the toilet then you can go and pray which will take you even less time than a person who goes to the toilet. Simple. It is not rocket science but it is shaythan who gives us a million and one excuses in our minds until he convinces us to miss them and pray kazaa at home instead. This is not right and we must ALWAYS ensure we pray oru Salaah no matter where we are. We must not become convenience Muslims who only pray when it suits us best.

You can pray literally anywhere apart from the toilet. Just find any empty room, corner, on the side or corner of a corrider, stair case anywhere. It will literally take you a couple of minutes to find a suitable space to pray and then just pray. If you need a long term room to pray in then tell staff and they will point you towards one or if not then pray wherever you can as long as it is not in the toilet or where there is visible impurities. Take with you to work and school an empty bottle which you can use for Isthinja. If you ever need to use the toilet then simply wet some tissue and clean the toilet seat and it is purified. Water is the best purifier.

Practising Islam is so easy but we make it hard for ourselves. All it requires is a little effort so put in the effort and you will taste the fruits of your efforts inshallah.

And Allah knows best in all matters

It's not easy doing salah in a work place especially if their is no space for you to pray privately I'd rather do it at home. since my country is Predominantly catholic i seldom see any muslim that works in call centers and pray privately and it would be considered out of the norm not that i am ashamed of my faith.

I know who you feel salapuddin i also come from a predominantly catholic country, here it would even seem weird if a catholic said "i have to leave early to go to church", alhamdullillah i found a room in university which is usually empty, if you can ask at work for a room etc. it is also a way to do dawah

Asalaamu Alaikum, i am from the UK which is also a Christian country and in the many organisations iv'e worked for iv'e never needed a room to pray in. One should ask the management if there is a room allocated to prayer. If there is not then ask for a empty room. If they still say there is not then one should just walk around the building and i guarantee one would ALWAYS find a suitable place to pray. It is all about making the effort. Who is going to physically stop us from praying at work? No one!

Praying Salaah at work is in fact a wonderful form of dawah as others will see you pray and will enquire from you or seeing you pray may even give them an inclination to look into Islam further. Whenever i did Wudhu in the toilet at work or Uni then there were many non Muslims who came in and i told them that i was doing ablution for prayer in case they are wondering what i was doing.

It is not difficult to pray at work at all but we make it difficult for ourselves. We can pray ANYWHERE apart from the toilet and where there is visible impurities. Surely it is shaythan who gives us such lame excuses not to pray. No matter where we are there is always a way we can pray but it just requires some effort on our behalf.

There is no excuse for praying Qadha after work because there is sufficient time and space at work in order to pray all of the Salaah. If there is no room allocated to prayer than there will always be a room empty. If there is no room empty then there is always a corridor, staircase or any place where there is sufficient space in order for one to make Sajda properly.

So let us not be a "Convenience Muslim" who only prays when it is convenient for them and when it is not then they do not even bother praying. But let us be of those Muslims that when prayer time comes we strive to pray no matter where we are and what we are doing. So let us make the FULL effort for the pleasure of Allah and do not forget who gives us the jobs we have and the food we eat and the very life we lead. So let us pray to the one that is worthy of all worship.

And Allah knows best in all matters

Namaz is said to be principal need in Islam. We should stop each work at the time of namaz. Offering namaz five times each day purifies our spirit and body. The positions which we do while performing Namaz has mending powers. Researchers has proven that when we do Sajood the rays originating from the beginning our body and it is the best time when our body circulates blood at its peak which results extraordinary effect on our body, soul and on to our skin.

Re: Missing prayers due to work

It is hard to pray at work as it takes me directly away from my workzone. Whats even harder is the minimal tolerance to Muslims in the area I live. At home I make my prayers but at work, I just stop and quietly pray and reflect on Allah SWT and Muhammad PBUH. Allah SWT knows whats in my heart.

Re: Missing prayers due to work

Persistance is important. But it tend to degrade in time.
When I just converted, first month every prayer I was praying in congregation in masjid.
When had to move, I became more lenient, missing prayers and making them up later. While praying in the tiny room, could pray only at 60' to Quibla but preferred this to the hassle of going far to surau or praying in public. Now, being stuck for few days in airport transfer zone without surau and shower, I simply stopped normal praying.
I hope I will have enough persistance to make all those up later.

Re: Missing prayers due to work

And I agree, the praying style is quite related to Dawa. When I was recipient of dawa, I was praying properly. When walking among non-muslims, I was proudly wearing attributes, feeling some weirdness but dismissing it.
But, when I started to make dawa to atheists, I became quite uncomfortable to pray in public, feeling weirdness of making extra effort, as it was in conflict with the image of muslim of convenience I was projecting. May be because I myself don't have internal confidence in necessity of proper rituals and rather was doing to conform?

Re: Missing prayers due to work

Its not allowed to miss prayers under any circumstances except in case of severe illness that one cannot even make slight motions for sajdah and ruku

If one misses prayers without the above excuse it's a sin and they'll have to make it up as soon as possible

If you sincerely believe that prayers are mandatory, you should make up. Some scholars say that if you miss any prayer, then you have become a non Muslim. You should first, understand the strong warnings for those who delay prayers.

    Warning:

    1) it will be one day when people will ask the people of Hell "what has brought you there", and they will say: "we were of those who did not prayed"

    2) you are in serious danger of committing disbelief.

    3) On the Day of Judgment, the first thing that will be question is you prayers. If it is found that you haven't prayed, then things might worse and you wouldn't like it.

If you pray 2 or 3 prayers you are a sinful Muslim, but you are in serious danger of committing apostasy.

You have to pray on time, there is no excuse for delaying prayers. What will you answer to Allah on the a Day of Judgment? Because your boss did not let you pray or your school? This is not valid excuse at all.

I hope I have answered your question

    Asalam O Alikum

In shah ALLAH you wont be out of Islam due to non prayer but try to pray on time , even i missed pray many time specially fajr when even after setting of alarm i did not able to wake and i know its bad.

Any way , i did not think your class timing or even work make it difficutlt to pray, there is lots of time in between where you can pray,

just learning more , i just came to this hadith of combinin of prayers

    Missing prayers due to work

I am not a scholar to shed light on it but you can take expert opinion and i think if you combine prayers you can get enough time , not sure about location but if i calcualt at my i can get around 8-10 hours after fajr to pray and 8-10 for magrib and eisha, so that far enough time to pray in between.
