Why Did Prophet Sulaiman Ask Allah For Power and Kingdom?

    by Nouman Ali Khan

I watched the entire video. Well, how do you recognize your strengths? And, what have your strengths to do with dua of Sulaiman I don't get it? Could someone please explain me? You know what? In other Islamic forums no one even bothers themselves to answer such kind of questions and they think it's unnecessary to start discussion on such matters.. moreover this sounds so arrogant, this is what upset you and you have no motivation to study Islam and such stuff anymore, because no one wants to listen you what you think and what you want to hear because those people think they're smart enough and you're dumb because you don't know your Deen enough, and you ask "such stupid questions"
I had a lot and a lot of questions I wanted to get proper answers and read them all but obviously, I failed

Some people said that prophet Sulaiman aleyhi salam had special strengths like other human beings, in our case - talent. But what kind of strengths he had? Some of them told me that he was the just ruler and his justice was his talent, and after his dua Allah Gave him unusual miracles. I asked them, for example if I have a drawing talent to draw anything on a blank paper, then I'll ask Allah in my dua what would happen? This question is quite unanswerable.. I know that dua is accepted for several reasons and also you should be patient in your life

Ask this dua whereby You ask for Ilm which benefits you (talent may be included in it as well), abundant Rizq (provision) and cure from all diseases: ''Allahumma inni as'aluka ilman naafia wa rizqan waasia wa shifaa'am min kulli daa'a''

why would Allah give him the power to control the jinns when He forbids us to use that kind of supernatural abilities by using jinns? This still confuses me. Can Allah grants a certain person such a power?

    Greetings and peace be with you space;

I think the most powerful duas are asking for the wisdom to understand the will of Allah, and the help to carry out his will.

The power to control jinns is granted to only one person which is Sulayman as. He used this power to make the jinns work in contruction areas where heavy labor is required. usually publically. This to show people that Jinns are not all powerful....
This, because he had the task to show humanity that jinns are not all powerfull...they are not creatures worth worshipping.
Sulayman as died during observation of the jinns from his office while theywere working. he was leaning on his staff. The Jinns thought he was watching them, so they continued to work. At a certain time a woodworm or a termite or some other insect started nibbling on his staff eating it away...when the staff broke Sulayman as fell on the floor and everyone saw that he died a long time ago. This was also a clear evidence that jinns do not see the the future, because if they did, they wood lay down their work a long time ago.

So, in short, Sulayman as did a great work on showing people that jinns might be strong and fast and powerful...but not All-powerful...they do not see the future...and they are certainly worthy of worship.
Perhaps, if Sulayman as did not have the ability to control the jinns, a lot of humans nowadays would worship jinns.

Re: Why Did Prophet Sulaiman Ask Allah For Power and Kingdom?

nowadays the humans are still worshiping some of the jinn leaders as is often the case, only those ignorant people who are simply not able to distinguish between the truth and false and independently diving into the deep end in order to be successful acquiring a proper knowledge can very easily commit shirk and become apostates. I'm very well aware of the story about prophet Sulaiman and about the weakness of the jinn mentioned in the holy book, but if Allah granted him such an extraordinary power means He can also grant someone else? People either do shirk or they get everything from Allah because Allah as He said - He's Giver, He gives you whatever you ask Him, right?

Re: Why Did Prophet Sulaiman Ask Allah For Power and Kingdom?

As salam alkuim i think you’re question is why did the prophet ask for power and kingdom? You know this by know that prophets and we are different our prophet SAW said that every prophet has gotten his dua “Allah has given one Dua to every single prophet and every single messenger, that he has guaranteed that he will respond to. And every single prophet has used up this Dua for himself in this world, except for me. I have saved it and I have not used it and I will not use it in this life. I have kept it for my Ummah and I will use it for them on the day of judgement. And my Dua will be, O Allah, forgive my entire Ummah.”

As for you’re question about people worshipping devils this my brother is just foolish and don’t know how this is a question if you believe there is a devil then you know there is a God so why worship the devil?

As for getting everything you as for... you see Allah SWT says “And it may be that you dislike a thing which is good for you and that you like a thing which is bad for you. Allah knows but you do not know.” (AI-Baqarah, 2:216)

Insha’Allah those will answer you’re question... i couldn’t quiet figure out what it is you truly want to know but if there is any questions send me a message about it and Insha’Allah i will be able to answer

May Allah SWT guide us and increase us in knowledge and have mercy on us

I believe you are right. Some worship the devils/jinns in hope of worldly power and achievements. And, some are renowned Magicans (using spiritual elements/powers-taken not given freely or taken for a price, whilst others merely use scientific method to create 'magic') . Some of these people have been known to experience high levels of telepathic, psychic abilities (which are never always completely accurate), some have OBE and elevation antics...like floating (forgot the correct term)...casting spells to make others sick, fall in love with them etc.
Abusing spiritual power and authority is completely forbidden. Eventually, what can happen is the Jinn in question will give and give, then begin taking and taking. Don't they realize that Jinns have freewill too? That there are good and bad jinns? And just like in a relationship with another person that could go bad, so too the relationship with a Jinn can go bad. (one can get severely abused) Hence, stay away from these 'powers'.

Prophet Suleiman a.s dua was as follows:

He said, “My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom such as will not belong to anyone after me. Indeed, You are the Bestower.” So We subjected to him the wind blowing by his command, gently, wherever he directed. (Al Qur’an 38:35 to 38:36)

We need to understand the story in it's entirety. Prophet Suleiman a.s was the son of Prophet Dawud a.s (inheriting both kingdom and prophet-hood). He was ruler of the people, animals and jinns. He was known to be fair and compassionate to all, especially the story of the anthill is mentioned in the Quran, whereby he took deliberate care to avoid hurting them with his army. But then the place of the world (fitnah/distraction: delights-love of horses) began occupying his heart and causing to miss an evening prayer. Before this the Quran mentions his nature in serving Allah swt:

[We said], “Work, O family of Daud, in gratitude.” And few of My servants are grateful. (Al Qur’an 34:13)
And to David We gave Sulaiman. An excellent servant, indeed he was one repeatedly turning back [to Allah]. (Al Qur’an 38:30)

He repented immediately and made the above dua. (Quran 38:35-36) The intention was to do more good with the kingdom bestowed upon him, this time never stopping/failing to serve Allah swt despite ALL that was given to himself. In this favor Prophet Suleiman a.s got the wind to blow in his favor as well as leadership with the kingdom of the Jinns-ruling over them.

Hence, we see that Prophet Sulieman's a.s story encourages us to have/acquire important characteristics in our nature of being grateful towards Allah and after making mistakes (no matter how many times) to return towards Allah, again and again, unfailingly. Never to surrender and neither turn away. And when we do ask for more, we ask with the objective to serve Allah only, justly and never for selfish motives.
