On the RoadtoJannah message board I typically post a Hadith of the Day and the Ayat of the Day. I see that there is already a Hadith of the Day thread here so inshAllah I intend to contribute to that. However, when doing a few searches on this board I could not find an Ayat of the Day thread, so I decided to make one. If there is one already please merge this and point me in the right direction inshAllah. Also if everyone could contribute that would be wonderful. Discussion, Ayats, anything inshAllah.
JazakhAllah Khair.
8. Al-Anfal (Spoils Of War, Booty)
Surah: 8 Aya: 16
Transliteration
16. Waman yuwallihim yawma-ithin duburahu illa mutaharrifan liqitalin aw mutahayyizan ila fi-atin faqad baa bighadabin mina Allahi wama/wahu jahannamu wabi/sa almaseeru
Translation
16. And whoever turns his back to them on such a day - unless it be a stratagem of war, or to retreat to a troop (of his own), - he indeed has drawn upon himself wrath from Allâh. And his abode is Hell, and worst indeed is that destination!
And when the son of Mary was presented as an example, immediately your people laughed aloud.
( 57 ) ۞ وَلَمَّا ضُرِبَ ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ مَثَلًا إِذَا قَوْمُكَ مِنْهُ يَصِدُّونَ
( 1 ) By the morning brightness
( 2 ) And [by] the night when it covers with darkness,
( 3 ) Your Lord has not taken leave of you, [O Muhammad], nor has He detested [you].
( 4 ) And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life].
( 5 ) And your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied.
( 6 ) Did He not find you an orphan and give [you] refuge?
( 7 ) And He found you lost and guided [you],
( 8 ) And He found you poor and made [you] self-sufficient.
( 9 ) So as for the orphan, do not oppress [him].
( 10 ) And as for the petitioner, do not repel [him].
( 11 ) But as for the favor of your Lord, report [it].
( 65 ) And they found a servant from among Our servants to whom we had given mercy from us and had taught him from Us a [certain] knowledge.
( 66 ) Moses said to him, "May I follow you on [the condition] that you teach me from what you have been taught of sound judgement?"
( 67 ) He said, "Indeed, with me you will never be able to have patience.
( 68 ) And how can you have patience for what you do not encompass in knowledge?"
( 69 ) [Moses] said, "You will find me, if Allah wills, patient, and I will not disobey you in [any] order."
( 70 ) He said, "Then if you follow me, do not ask me about anything until I make to you about it mention."
( 71 ) So they set out, until when they had embarked on the ship, al-Khidh r tore it open. [Moses] said, "Have you torn it open to drown its people? You have certainly done a grave thing."
( 72 ) [Al-Khidh r] said, "Did I not say that with me you would never be able to have patience?"
( 73 ) [Moses] said, "Do not blame me for what I forgot and do not cover me in my matter with difficulty."
( 74 ) So they set out, until when they met a boy, al-Khidh r killed him. [Moses] said, "Have you killed a pure soul for other than [having killed] a soul? You have certainly done a deplorable thing."
( 75 ) [Al-Khidh r] said, "Did I not tell you that with me you would never be able to have patience?"
( 76 ) [Moses] said, "If I should ask you about anything after this, then do not keep me as a companion. You have obtained from me an excuse."
( 77 ) So they set out, until when they came to the people of a town, they asked its people for food, but they refused to offer them hospitality. And they found therein a wall about to collapse, so al-Khidh r restored it. [Moses] said, "If you wished, you could have taken for it a payment."
( 78 ) [Al-Khidh r] said, "This is parting between me and you. I will inform you of the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience.
( 79 ) As for the ship, it belonged to poor people working at sea. So I intended to cause defect in it as there was after them a king who seized every [good] ship by force.
( 80 ) And as for the boy, his parents were believers, and we feared that he would overburden them by transgression and disbelief.
( 81 ) So we intended that their Lord should substitute for them one better than him in purity and nearer to mercy.
( 82 ) And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure for them, and their father had been righteous. So your Lord intended that they reach maturity and extract their treasure, as a mercy from your Lord. And I did it not of my own accord. That is the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience."
( 83 ) And they ask you, [O Muhammad], about Dhul-Qarnayn. Say, "I will recite to you about him a report."
What! do you make (one who undertakes) the giving of drink to the pilgrims and the guarding of the Sacred Mosque like him who believes in Allah and the latter day and strives hard in Allah's way? They are not equal with Allah; and Allah does not guide the unjust people.
(English - Shakir)
( 114 ) No good is there in much of their private conversation, except for those who enjoin charity or that which is right or conciliation between people. And whoever does that seeking means to the approval of Allah - then We are going to give him a great reward.
( 115 ) And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows other than the way of the believers - We will give him what he has taken and drive him into Hell, and evil it is as a destination.
( 116 ) Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills. And he who associates others with Allah has certainly gone far astray.
( 117 ) They call upon instead of Him none but female [deities], and they [actually] call upon none but a rebellious Satan.
( 118 ) Whom Allah has cursed. For he had said, "I will surely take from among Your servants a specific portion.
( 119 ) And I will mislead them, and I will arouse in them [sinful] desires, and I will command them so they will slit the ears of cattle, and I will command them so they will change the creation of Allah." And whoever takes Satan as an ally instead of Allah has certainly sustained a clear loss.
( 120 ) Satan promises them and arouses desire in them. But Satan does not promise them except delusion.
( 121 ) The refuge of those will be Hell, and they will not find from it an escape.
All praise is due to Allah, the Originator of the heavens and the earth, the Maker of the angels, apostles flying on wings, two, and three, and four; He increases in creation what He pleases; surely Allah has power over all things.
(English - Shakir)
On that day will those who disbelieve and disobey the Apostle desire that the earth were levelled with them, and they shall not hide any word from Allah.
(English - Shakir)
Say, "Would you acquaint Allah with your religion while Allah knows whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, and Allah is Knowing of all things?"
And could you see when they are made to stand before their Lord. He will say: Is not this the truth? They will say: Yea! by our Lord. He will say: Taste then the chastisement because you disbelieved.
(English - Shakir)
Private conversation is only from Satan that he may grieve those who have believed, but he will not harm them at all except by permission of Allah. And upon Allah let the believers rely.
All praise is due to Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth and made the darkness and the light; yet those who disbelieve set up equals with their Lord.
(English - Shakir)
And certainly We created you, then We fashioned you, then We said to the angels: Prostrate to Adam. So they did prostrate except Iblis; he was not of those who prostrated.
(English - Shakir)
And We have enjoined man in respect of his parents-- his mother bears him with faintings upon faintings and his weaning takes two years-- saying: Be grateful to Me and to both your parents; to Me is the eventual coming.
(English - Shakir)
