    Hello/Salam~

My question is this, I would like to get a small tattoo on my marriage finger to symbolize our marriage, my husband don't mind doing it too, as long it's not against any islamic rules and I can understand that. I really need help with this one, I know his mother had some on her hands just wondering if it's permitted in islam. I'm not talking about marking up our bodies like a piece of art or anything just a simple stripe on one finger that's it. Pleace help!!! And Thanks In Advanced!!!

    Re: Tattoo's.......please help

a tattoo to symbolise marriage ...why not wear a ring to bring about the symbolization you want instead of having a tattoo that in due time will look like fungus at your fingers

we will wait for someone who is at a better position than me to advice you or at least give you some links to websites

just remember ''its just a simple strip'' you said it yourself in your own words ......and in my own words i will say ''just simply forget it''

    peace

    Re: Tattoo's.......please help

The issue isn't what it will look like in 20 or 30 yrs, that can easily be covered by a ring, the question is, is it haraam or halal, also I do wear a ring as a matter of fact for 14 yrs now to symbolize our marriage, but I thought it would be a representation of life long unity, but thanks for your in-put.

Plus, many muslim women back in the day have them, my mother in-law has several only on her hands, but that may just be because perhaps they didnt have hennah back then not sure.

    Re: Tattoo's.......please help

in his well-known book, The Lawful and the Prohibited in Islam, the prominent Muslim scholar, Sheik Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, states: “Islam denounces excesses in beautifying oneself when it alters the physical features that Allah created him with. The Glorious Qur'an considers such alterations as inspired by Satan, who "...will command them (his devotees) to change what Allah has created...”(An-Nisa': 119) Tattooing is one of those excesses. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is reported to have cursed the tattooer and the tattooed. (Reported by Muslim)

    Re: Tattoo's.......please help

So your saying all of the many many many women before were cursed?

I know for sure the stick on tattoos are haraam, because they do not allow your skin to breath, but ink does not prohibit that.

^^ the reason why permanent tattoos are haram have nothing to do with whether the skin can breathe or not but rather because it is changing the creation of Allah.

    Re: Tattoo's.......please help

We ask Allah to bless your marriage, Ameen.

In general tattoos are haram for the purpose of beautification.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed the one who does tattoos and the one for whom that is done. In al-Saheehayn it is narrated that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “May Allaah curse the women who do tattoos and those for whom tattoos are done, those who pluck their eyebrows and those who file their teeth for the purpose of beautification and alter the creation of Allaah.” (al-Bukhaari, al-Libaas, 5587; Muslim, al-Libaas, 5538)

But one can say, they aren't doing it for that purpose and want evidence suggesting tattoos are allowed as long as they are not for the purpose mentioned in the hadith. Then, because I'm not qualified to answer that, I would ask, Praise be to Allah, but what can represent life long unity better than the love and mercy Allah put in the hearts of spouses for each other?

"And among His Signs is that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may dwell in tranquility with them, and He put love and mercy between your hearts. Verily in that are Signs for those who reflect." [Sûrah Rûm: 21]
Everything will but perish. But it is what spouses behold in their hearts and actions.. love, compassion, understanding and good treatment of each other that is a true representation of unity in their marriage. If your hearts are embellished with what Allah likes then inshaAllah you already have the best symbol of unity two people can hope for. Just keep the emblems of unity in your hearts polished and shiny for the sake of Allah, and inshaAllah with Allah's Mercy and blessings, He will unite you forever, in Allah's Paradise in the Here-after. Ameen

I can understand the beautification issues, such as shaving ones hair, body pearcings, ect. are not allowed but pertaining to my question it's not for beautification reasons. Like as wearing make up

No sister, Allah subahana wa ta'ala forgives all previous sins of the person who becomes a muslims. It is not a sin if they already have tattoos. But it is better if they can have them removed inshaAllah.
