    How do you read tafseer?

    Report bad ads?

brothers and sisters, I am here today to discuss about 'how do you read tafseer'.

Let's start by saying I don't have a tafseer Teacher so I have my own ways of reading the tafseer. I don't really know how it's suppose to read, but I read it by listening to a reciter. I would read the translation text besides the arabic text really quickly to catch up with what the reciter is reciting in arabic. Is this a terrible way to learn tafseer? Strangely, I got what the verses are saying. Every time there is a comment by a scholar on a certain verse, I would pause my mp3 and start reading it then hit play again and so on so forth. This process goes on until I finish the tafseer of a surah.

Its a good way to struggle by yourself. Try to note each act of reciter. Read the instructions in the back of Quran, you will understand where to stop and where to not.

    brother Nbeel.

I hope it will not break your spirit in learn Islamic knowledge. But it is better if you learn tafseer from a teacher. Tafseer is interpretation. This is more than just translation. Some words in Qur'an can be interpreted into more than one meaning.

Al-Qur'an is one source of sharia. If you make a mistake in translate an Arabic novel into Malay language, it will not change anything. But if you make a mistake in interpret Qur'an, it is possible becomes a beginning of new bid'ah.

But if you just want to train your Arabic language, you can start with translate Arabic articles. There are many Arabic articles in the web. Remember, do not ever make a tafseer of Qur'an and hadith until you have enough knowledge about it.

Always learn, brother. And don't ever hesitate to ask and seek knowledge from people who have knowledge. Remember what Malay people say "Malu bertanya, sesat di jalan" (Shame to asking, lost in the way).

Inshallah, I'm working on it. I saw a notice a few backs at a local masjid that arabic lessons are free! I don't actually know how it works though..

Alhamdulillah brother, thanks for the positive post. Regarding to the instructions in the back of the Al-Quran I don't think I could find any of them since it's all in arabic.

Inshallah brother, I will try to do all these things. I knew that reading translation wasn't as good as reading it through arabic, thus Inshallah I will try to get some lessons. I will try to avoid making tafseer of Al-Quran and hadeeth before getting enough knowledge. Nice Malay quote by the way, I can use that for my Bahasa Malaysia Composition now. Lastly, I'm having trouble getting knowledge from the internet then spreading it to the real world knowing that it would get rejected. The mindset of a Muslim about right/wrong will be in doubt as there's no one in the real world is accepting his words.

reading translation is good but doesnt capture the essence of the Quran if u studied from a teacher ud see the differnce
Inshallah, I'll try to ask the local Mosque some time near the future to learn about it.

I usually go to a Masjid where a teacher teaches tafseer of Quran. She teaches us from a cd which is of a leader. Its very easy for all of you to teach tafseer online from internet.

Inshallah I'll look it up. Post me links to them if you have it

I use Indonesian official tafseer that published by Indonesian Ministry of Religion.
I'm reading one by Al-Qurtubi, At-Tabari and Ibn Kathir with comments from Sahih Bukhari. Sometimes, I get demotivated reading it because I heard that "You can only find the true meaning of the Al-Quran in arabic". This mindset has effected me and I asked myself, "Why do I need to read tafseer, if it's true meaning is in Arabic and not English? Wouldn't this mean that I'd have to start to read the whole Al-Quran just to find it's true meaning after I had read all the tafseers?". Hopefully I'll find a teacher in the future InshAllah
