    The Qur'aan Club-Brainstorming thread

    Report bad ads?

I saw this wonderful idea on another forum,I thought we should try to start it on here too. Basically we aim on a khattam every 2 weeks or so.

A quote from the sister who began this on the thread on the another forum(Ummah Forums) :

May Allah accept it from us, and make it easy for us. May Allah enlighten our hearts and lives by the Quran and enter us all into Jannah by the Quran.
As always we welcome any new members.

Just a few words before we start:

We will aim for 1 Khatam for every 2 weeks. At the moment we don’t have enough members to do more, but if the numbers increase or members wish to recite more, we can Insha’Allah be flexible and make alterations accordingly.

The recitation is to be in Arabic, not a translation or transliteration.

Just out of due courtesy please inform me or one of the other members, if have been allocated a Juzz, and will be not able to complete it for whatever reason or will not have access to the net, or any other anticipated changes etc.

We really don’t mind, as long as you just let someone know, so we can cover for you when you need and vice versa. For this is the essence of the Muslim brotherhood.
Anyone interested on implenting this club on this forum aswell?

    Re: The Qur'aan Club-Brainstorming thread

I hope I'm not out of line here in saying that I really don't think this is a good idea. I will list my reasons, if I may:

    1) Many of us are familiar with the image the word khatam tends to conjure up, the gathering together of people after a death to read Qur'an to complete a khatam or khatams. This practice, is a bid3ah. Once people get used to doing a khatam in the manner described for the thread, then any other type of khatam with multiple participants will not seem so bad, and this has the potential to increase it's acceptability in people's eyes.

    2) Is there any evidence that the Sahaabah (may Allah be pleased with them) used to count Quran completions with multiple participants like that? e.g. "I've read this much, you've read that much, so between us we have completed a Qur'an."

    3) You aim to complete one khatam every two weeks. But believe me, there will be many khatams going on daily all over the world that we don't even know about. E.g. if you read only Surah Ikhlaas today, and someone you don't know in Africa has read 5 ayaat of another surah etc, around the world, many other people will have read many other portions of the Qur'an on any given day, and there are probably hundreds of khatams going on daily, that only Allah knows about, if indeed He keeps counts of khatams in that manner.

I think a thread in which people (without aiming for a khatam) can post if they wish to what portion they have recited in a day is fine, though many may not, so as to not broadcast their good deeds.

May Allah enlighten our hearts and lives by the Quran and enter us all into Jannah by the Quran.
    Ameen.

And Allah knows best, and may He forgive me if I have said anything wrong.

How about we call it a completion of reciting the Qur'an instead?

I am not sure,I will get back to you on that, insha'Allaah.

Our intention will be counted and Allaah will judge us upon that if thats the case.

That might be a good idea, but we shall see where this idea goes..

You can call it that, but it doesn't really make any difference what you call it. This is my concern:

True. But we do need to make sure that we are not innovating anything new before we embark on it. Most people who follow bid3aat have good intentions in their minds, but that doesn't make it any the less wrong. We need to first check if there are daleels for doing/counting Qur'an completions with multiple participants.

    And Allah knows best.
